COSTAATT PARTNERSHIP AWARD

COSTAATT AND TOURISM TRINIDAD LIMITED: A PARTNERSHIP FOR SUCCESS

Tourism Trinidad Limited (TTL) began their relationship with COSTAATT in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. At that time TTL partnered with the institution to prepare tourism stakeholders (tour guides and operators, food handlers, small accommodation owners, sites and attractions staff and transport operators) for the reopening of the country’s borders and the anticipated increase in tourism activities. In late 2020, COSTAATT trained approximately 455 tourism practitioners in Safety and Sanitation measures so that the tourism industry was better equipped to deal with people traffic, given that the pandemic had not yet ended.

Since then, the College has collaborated with TTL for training in community-based tour guiding and have trained approximately 60 guides in rural communities between 2021 and 2022. This partnership eventually led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies in January 2023. Through this MoU, the relationship has expanded to include curricula development to support the tourism industry through the design of continuous professional development for tourism

practitioners; strategic research to inform industry and workforce requirements within the tourism sector, and other tourism sector support initiatives.

The College has since developed several short-term micro-credential initiatives for the tourism sector: Workshop in Preparation for Cruise Ship Employment; Workshop in Work from Home Travel Agency Operations; Workshop in Tour Design and Costing; Workshop in Current Trends Using AI in Tour Guiding; Short Course in Destination Management and a Diploma in Tourism and Destination Management. Throughout this process, TTL’s specialist staff have provided feedback on our content and curriculum design. These programmes are all being rolled out in the 2024-2025 Academic Year and already the agencies have collectively constructed a menu of offerings for further development. Similarly, TTL continues to include COSTAATT in their stakeholder engagements as well as a valued trainer and support for the tourism sector.

TTL has further extended their collaboration to COSTAATT’s Ken Gordon School of Communication, Creative and Digital Media.

They hosted a Media Workshop in 2023, facilitated by COSTAATT's senior lecturer in media and communication, Mr Roddy Batchasingh, and ten (10) students were able to attend. also did a presentation. Mr Batchasingh presented on feature writing geared to travel writing and tourism at the workshop. The students who participated were also given the opportunity to be volunteer intern writers for Tourism Trinidad.

In January 2024, graduates of our Spanish programmes provided Spanish translation services to Tourism Trinidad Limited during their Cruise Arrival Season 2024. Four graduate volunteers with Spanish fluency worked alongside their Cruise Ambassadors to provide interpretation services as well as country and tourism information to incoming visitors who were passengers on The Royal Caribbean, and Jewel of the Seas cruise ships.

These initiatives provided excellent opportunities for students/graduates to benefit from active learning and industry experience. We look forward to this continued partnership.

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE STUDENT COUNCIL

ZOE-ANNÉ PETERS President

Congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone in your lives! As the outgoing Student Council President, I have the distinct honor of addressing you on behalf of our entire school community. Today is a celebration of your hard work, perseverance, and dedication, and it is a moment to reflect on the journey that has brought you here and the exciting future that lies ahead.

As you step into this new chapter, I want to share some advice that I hope will inspire and guide you as you embark on your next adventure. Never be afraid to pursue your goals, regardless of how grand or challenging they may seem. It is often the boldest dreams that lead to the most remarkable achievements. Sometimes, all you need is the faith to believe in yourself and your potential. This selfbelief can be a powerful force, helping you to overcome obstacles and reach heights you might have once thought unattainable.

Embrace the idea that you belong in spaces you have yet to explore. The world is vast and full of opportunities, many of which you may not have imagined before. You have already proven your ability to rise to the occasion, and there is no reason to doubt your ability to continue doing so in the future. Each of you has a unique set of talents and strengths that can contribute to shaping the world around you. Trust in your potential and have confidence that you are deserving of success and happiness in every endeavor.

Remember, the world is indeed your oyster, waiting for you to make it your own. It is up to you to mold it into a reflection of your dreams, aspirations, and values. As you navigate through the different stages of life, be open to new experiences and remain adaptable. Opportunities can come from the most unexpected places, and sometimes it is the smallest decision or chance encounter that can lead to transformative experiences. Cherish these moments and allow them to guide you towards new and exciting paths.

As you go forward, keep in mind that every step you take is a step towards growth and discovery. The journey you are about to embark on will be filled with both challenges and triumphs, and each experience will shape who you become. Embrace these experiences with enthusiasm and resilience, knowing that each one contributes to your personal and professional development.

Congratulations once again, Class of 2024. Your future is bright, and I have no doubt that each of you will make a significant impact on the world. Carry with you the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the dreams you have nurtured. The road ahead is yours to travel, and I am excited to see the incredible things you will accomplish.

With heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.
