In Summer 2022, our Library branches are offering a wealth of programming that includes traditional library services for reading, research, learning and personal growth opportunities, as well as Makers Spaces, Storytime, computer classes, and English Conversation Clubs. For Recreation, choose from a list of Youth and Adult Sports, afterschool programs, Summer Day Camps, even E-Sports.

In addition, special events are taking place throughout the spring and summer with lots of family entertainment: 

TRAINING WHEELS

This early literacy vehicle travels to preschools and daycare centers throughout San Joaquin County. Each visit includes a special storytime where children ages 0-5 and their teachers and caregivers enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes. This program is funded largely by a California Library Literacy Services grant. To schedule a Training Wheels visit to your preschool or daycare, call 209-937-8143.

YOUTH SPORTS

REGISTER HERE The Community Services Department offers safe, fun, and friendly youth sports programs at schools, playgrounds, and community centers. We provide recreational, rather than competitive, programs for our youth from K-8th grade. Participants learn to participate in groups sports in a positive environment. These fun leagues will help participants learn the fundamentals of flag football, tennis, basketball, soccer, baseball, and volleyball. All dates and times will be determined by enrollment and grade.

SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS Is your child looking for fun, active and engaging activities during summer break? Look no further! The City of Stockton Recreation & Youth Sports department are offering three separate weeks of sports filled instruction.

Participants ages 5-14 may sign up for a sports specific camp to learn and improve their skills.

Each week: June 6 to 9, 13 to 16 and 20 to 23 we will provide instruction on different sports that include basketball, soccer and volleyball. Camps will be conducted by knowledgeable and skilled instructors. Participants receive a camp t-shirt.

YOUTH SPORTS REGISTER NOW YOUTH BASKETBALL The City of Stockton philosophy is to share the game of basketball with youth across the city by teaching skills, values, and wellness in a positive and fun environment. Our approach is intended to strengthen the culture of youth basketball, teach life lessons, and empower youth to live a full and healthy life. We believe this philosophy leads to developing complete and well-rounded basketball players and individuals.

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL Bump, set, spike! The City of Stockton youth volleyball program provides every child from 3rd to 8th grade a chance to learn and play volleyball in a fun, safe, and supervised environment. One of the main tenets of the program is to encourage children to do the best with their abilities while expanding their skillset acquiring a deeper understanding of the rules and fundamentals of the sport. Coaches use positive reinforcement while building confidence, skills, and self-esteem in each child.

YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL Friday Night Lights! Yes, youth flag football under the lights at one of our lighted sports complexes! We have the perfect opportunity for youth to learn the skills needed for the next stage of play. Participants will practice and play each week where they develop and focus on fundamental football skills, basic offensive and defensive positioning and team collaboration.

This is an equal play league with an emphasis on sportsmanship. All skill levels and abilities are welcome.

JUNIOR GIANTS

Junior Giants, the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, is a free, fun, noncompetitive coed baseball and softball program for boys and girls ages 5-18 years old.

We will offer both baseball and softball. We encourage first-time and returning baseball and softball players of all levels to register. Beyond teaching the fundamentals of the game, Junior Giants focuses on the Four Bases of Character Development - Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork – and offers programs in Health, Education and Bullying Prevention.

Registration for the 2022 season begins April 4, 2022. Games begin in June or early July and will be held at Stockton neighborhood parks including Barry Zito Fields at Van Buskirk Park, Louis Park, Stribley Park and Panella Park. ESPORTS Venture into the world of electronic sports gaming or more commonly known as Esports.

Participate in online tournaments quarterly for Adults or monthly online tournaments inperson for youth and teens. Our quarterly tournaments this year are; NBA 2k22, MLB The Show 22, and FIFA 22.

ADULT MEMBERSHIP SPORTS Enjoy being active, love sports, and looking for some pickup games? This is the perfect place for you. The City of Stockton offers a variety of adult drop-in Membership Sports throughout the year including Badminton, Basketball, Pickleball, Table Tennis, and Volleyball. You don’t need a team, and no skill is required! Memberships fees are $10 a month. Days, times, and locations vary by sport, please contact each community center for schedules.

The City of Stockton offers several camps during school breaks for spring, summer, fall, and winter. Our trained recreation leaders create a safe, fun environment with personal attention in small groups. Campers meet new friends, play sports and games, create crafts, and enjoy social time. SENIOR MEMBERSHIP www.stocktonca.gov/seniors Discover all the activities, events, and classes offered at our Community Centers for our senior community to stay active and healthy. Become a part of our vibrant senior community for only $25 annually. Memberships can be purchased at any City of Stockton Community Center and allows the membership to be used at Arnold Rue, Oak Park, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Centers. Enjoy billiards, fitness room access, dance and aerobic activities, crafts, and several senior specific classes. Membership renewal is July 1!

FITNESS MEMBERSHIP Fitness membership provides access to any of our community center fitness rooms and gymnasiums for specific activities. Fitness Rooms can be used during normal hours of operation, and gymnasium activities vary by location. Our fitness rooms are equipped with various cardio and weight equipment. This membership is for Arnold Rue, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Centers. Fitness Memberships $10.25 monthly.
