Welcome to the Fall/Winter Community Services Activity Guide. It’s that time of year where it feels like we all get “serious” again. Summer is ending, school is starting, everyone is in the mindset of buckling down, getting to work, and trying to make some progress before the holidays arrive. Far be it from us to mess with your groove, but all work and no play makes for a bad work/life balance. Here at CSD we’re gearing up too, but our plans are focused on providing you educational and fun opportunities this season so that when you have precious free time, you have great choices on how to spend it.

Spooktacular: It’s going to be a Spooktacular good time Saturday, October 11 at the Weber Point Events Center beginning at 5:30 pm! Join us for our free annual Halloween celebration and movie night event. Enjoy ghoulish games, spooky crafts, life-size bubble fun, face painting, balloon twisting, costume contest and new this year…

Trunk or Treating! Immediately after the festivities, relax, gather your blankets and chairs with family and friends to enjoy the featured movie, “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.

Stockton Arts Week and Collide Festival: October 11-20 is Stockton Arts Week, the most exciting arts and culture event in Stockton. Established in 2016, it is a week-long celebration of the diversity and wealth of creative talent Stockton has to offer. This year we will offer free art workshops at City Community Centers and cap off the week with our third annual Collide Festival at the Weber Point Events Center on October 19. Spend an afternoon and evening sampling art techniques, visiting the sculpture exhibit, and enjoying music and dance from around the world. Gates open at 4 pm and closing is at 9 pm. Admission is free. Bring the entire family!

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony: The City of Stockton celebrates the season with the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at Weber Point on Saturday, December 7 at 5:30 pm., followed by the Marina West Yacht Club Lighted Boat Parade. Bring the entire family for some holiday cheer including cookie decorating, performances, caroling, music and dance. The evening will also include a visit from Santa, children’s crafts and an alternative holiday shopping experience from Stockmarket featuring makers, vintage, street food and entertainment. Start (or continue) a family tradition and kick off the holiday season with us at the free and fun-filled event!

We’re also pleased to highlight some of our new and expanded programs featured this season: LENA Start Program: LENA Start is a program for parents that uses regular feedback from LENA technology to help increase interactive talk in order to close the early-talk gap, support kindergarten readiness, and build stronger families. This successful program is now being offered at the Cesar Chavez and Tracey Libraries beginning in September. See more details inside on page 56.

Winter Reading: Want to encourage a love of reading? Our second Winter Reading Club will run from December 1, 2019 – January 31, 2020 for children 0-12.

Adult Kickball League: Who says adults can’t have recess? Create a team or just bring yourself and come kick it with us! Must be 18 or over.

Free Agents – All Adult Sports: Don’t have a team? Not enough players to make a team? No problem! This is the perfect place for you. Sign up as a Free Agent and let the City find a team for you!. We offer a variety of sports throughout the year including Basketball, Dodgeball, Kickball, Soccer, Softball and Volleyball. Must be 18 or over.

Mini-Movers Soccer: Mini Movers Sports Development Program teaches children ages 2-5 the basic skills necessary to play organized sports while they work one-on-one with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children and parents basic sports mechanics in a fun learning environment.

RECREATION MEMBERSHIPS FITNESS AND BASKETBALL DROP-IN MEMBERSHIP $10 – MONTHLY

This membership provides access to any of our community center fitness rooms and basketball courts. Fitness Rooms can be used during normal hours of operation, and basketball court access is from 9am–1pm daily. Our fitness rooms are equipped with various cardio and weight equipment. This membership is for Arnold Rue, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Centers.

$25 – ANNUAL FEE (JULY – JUNE) Discover all the activities, events, and classes offered at our Community Centers for our senior community to stay active and healthy. Become a part of our vibrant senior community for only $25 annually. Memberships can be purchased at any City of Stockton Community Center, and allows the membership to be used at Arnold Rue, Oak Park, Stribley, and Van Buskirk Centers. Enjoy billiards, fitness room access, dance and aerobic activities, crafts, and a number of senior specific classes.

According to the Gallup Poll for American Health, Americans who exercised regularly were 2.5 times more likely to report that they were happier than Americans who didn’t exercise at all.

Mini Movers Sports Development Program teaches children (ages 2-5) the basic skills necessary to play organized sports, while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents basic sports mechanics without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Sessions are held once a week for six weeks, and each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement. YOUTH BASKETBALL – WINTER Youth basketball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. Stockton basketball promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! This is a 6 week league. Practices are held once per week depending on the day and time selected by their team coach. A parent info meeting will be the week of January 21-25,2020. A skills clinic will be offered February 4-8, 2020, and our Basketball Jamboree is on February 22, 2020. All dates, times, and locations will be determined by enrollment and grade. Become a volunteer and help mentor the next generation. We need men and women who are interested in coaching kids to not only play a variety of sports, but to also develop their character through teamwork, cooperation, communication, and modeling good values.

- Coaching clinics and resources are provided, no experience necessary!

- Team Up! Coach alongside another parent or friend.

- Coaches receive a 25% discount towards their child's registration!
