Updates on face coverings

CCISD is grateful for Catherine Susser’s service on our Board of Trustees, representing District 4 as well as holding several board offices, including president. We offer her our best wishes, and look forward to her continued service until her position is filled.

On March 21st, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) posted updated guidance on medical examination in the workplace under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure employers are complying with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on how best to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect employees and others

As the CDC updates guidance regarding COVID-19 prevention, the district will update the Reopening Plan. The most recent update included information about face coverings:

Welcome, Don Clark!

Mr. Clark is a commercial insurance broker and a servant leader. He is a product of CCISD, having attended Cullen Jr. High and graduated from Richard King High School in 1988. Mr. Clark enlisted in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation and proudly served our country from 1988 –1991. He is dedicated to ensuring the students of CCISD know there are many paths that lead to success, and he is committed to helping make those resources available to them.

Mr. Clark and his wife, Tabby, have three children: Lauryn, a CCISD graduate who attends Texas A&M; Ashlyn, a junior at Veterans Memorial High School; and Will, who is a fourth grader at Mireles Elementary.

Under the current circumstances, employers can ask employees to complete a survey on whether they would be unable to come to work because of their own or a family member’s health condition. However, any medical information an employer obtains will be kept confidential in accordance with the ADA. Please complete the COVID-19 Survey:

• If you traveled to a “hot spot” over Thanksgiving Break, or while the District has been closed to the public, or • if you suspect you may have been exposed to, or are showing symptoms of, or tested positive for, the novel coronavirus, or • if you have a family member who is confirmed as having COVID-19.

By the numbers As of Nov. 19, Corpus Christi ISD has distributed 33,000 desk shields to our schools for student and staff use. Thank you to the Office of Purchasing and Distribution for your work to make this happen!

CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

• Face coverings include nonmedical grade disposable masks and multi-layered cloth masks.

All face coverings must cover the wearer’s nose and mouth, go past the wearer’s chin, and wrap around the sides of the face. Valve masks are not allowed. Face covering requirements are subject to change based on CDC guidelines.

• The CDC currently is not recommending the use of face shields as a substitute for masks because their effectiveness is unknown. In a situation where the individual is not able to wear disposable masks or multi-layered cloth masks, the employee must request the use of a face shield in lieu of a face mask through the Human Resources Department.

In the case in which the face shield is allowed, the shield should wrap around the sides of the wearer’s face and extend below the chin.

Considerations for face shields include: students with significant cognitive deficiencies, individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or who interpret for this group, or individuals who have underlying medical condition whose condition would be exacerbated by wearing a mask.
