CELL PHONES AND COVID-19 With the recent outbreak of COVID-19, there has been much attention placed on preventative actions such as handwashing, staying home when we are sick, and cleaning commonly touched surfaces but …what about our cell phones?

Numerous studies have found that our cellphones can be carriers of microbial life forms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. While many of these are harmless, there are also disease-causing organisms like the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus that can survive on surfaces long enough to be transmitted to you or another person. In fact, a survey conducted in 2019 found that the average person touches their cell phone 2,617 times per day! In light of this, wiping down the surface of our touch screens and phone cases should be a part of our daily routine.

How do I clean my phone?

First and foremost, you will want to consult the website for the manufacturer of your phone or carrying case for any specific instructions that they might have in order to avoid damaging your device or case. Many manufacturers, including Apple, have provided recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While specific instructions may vary depending on your device, Apple is advising the following for its products: • • • • • • •

Use only a soft, lint-free cloth.

Avoid excessive wiping.

Unplug all power sources, devices, and cables.

Keep liquids away from your device.

Don’t allow moisture to get into any openings.

Avoid aerosol sprays, bleaches, and abrasives.

Avoid spraying cleaners directly onto your device.

Apple is recommending the use of 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipes or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to wipe down any hard, nonporous surfaces.

How often should I clean my phone?

The most likely way that your cell phone would become contaminated with high levels of the virus is for someone to sneeze or cough near it. So, if you have been near anyone who is coughing or sneezing, it would be a good idea to clean your phone. If you are being diligent about washing your hands and not leaving your phone on potentially contaminated surfaces such as counters in public areas, then cleaning your phone once or twice a day should be sufficient.

As the summer break approaches, please remember that if you have any sort of medical procedure and/or if you are released to return to work from your doctor with or without restrictions, please be sure to obtain the proper form for your return to work release from the Human Resources Department. You and your doctor will both complete the Return to Work Notice Work Status form and submit it to Human Resources. UPDATING YOUR CCISD PASSWORD

CCISD requires all employees change their password every 60 days to protect student and staff digital information. If your password expires or you forget your password, password self service is available for all employees 24 hours a day 7 days a week from any device at https://my.ccisd.us.

Password Expired: 1. Visit https://my.ccisd.us 2. Sign in with your username and current password.

3. You will be notified that your password has expired.

4. Select “CLICK HERE to change your password.”

5. On next screen, enter a password that meets the requirements, retype to confirm password, and select Next.

6. You will receive a message confirming you have changed your password.

Forgot Password: If you have forgotten your password and answered challenge response questions, you will be able to reset your password.

1. Visit https://my.ccisd.us 2. Select Need help?

3. Select Forgot My Password.

4. Enter your username (Example: JASmith).

5. Answer two of the challenge response questions answered previously.

6. Once you have answered these questions, proceed to change your password.

7. You will receive a message confirming you have changed your password.
