CONGRATULATIONS, DR. CYNTHIA HOPKINS! The Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching were created in 1990 to honor elementary, middle, and high school teachers. On May 5, the Texas Medical Association announced Dr. Cynthia Hopkins won first place in the middle school division. Winner will receive a $6,000 check for themselves and $2,000 grant for the science department for their school. Dr. Hopkins is a 7th & 8th grade science teacher for Kaffie Middle School.

CCISD CONTINUES TO PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH MONTH

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month which includes the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of the whole person. The CCISD Counseling Department is sharing a Mental Health Resources Guide to promote mental health this month.

CCISD is partnered with Family Counseling Service for the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Each employee has three visits at no cost to the employee.

RETIREMENT CELEBRATION 2020

CANVAS AND COUNSELORS CCISD Counselors are getting Tech Savvy and supporting their students through the COVID-19 school closures. Many counselors saw the need to learn technology tools and applications to continue to connect with staff and students.

The Office of Instructional Technology partnered with Kandice Fricke, Coordinator for Guidance and Counseling, to set up sessions on video conferencing, Canvas and Nearpod. Sessions were provided on Tuesdays and Thursday in the afternoon for counselors to join and learn together. The participation was awesome and counselors took the time to learn, grow and implement. Here are testimonials from CCISD teachers and ways they implemented what they learned.

BEWARE OF EMAIL SCAMMERS

Email scammers are working overtime these days to take advantage of people. The most recent spam attack seen in our district includes using a fake email address to impersonate district principals and leaders, requesting their staff to purchase gift cards and send them a picture of the gift card and the back of the card with the numbers scratched off. This scam has had some success, and may be contributing to the increase in these phishing

1. If you receive an email like this, DO NOT reply to it. Delete it immediately.

2. Leaders will not ask for gift cards a. If you are suspicious, don’t reply to original request. Start a new email to your supervisor asking if it is a legitimate request.

3. Check the FULL email address of the sender to be sure it is from @ccisd.us and not gmail or other non-district email account.

4. Look for the “[External Email: Use caution opening attachments & links]” a. This indicates the email come from outside the district’s email system 5. Be extra cautious. There are too many scammers out there with too much time on their hands!

6. Send any suspicious email to helpdesk@ccisd.us as an attachment so we can follow-up.

REPORTING IS REQUIRED BY TEXAS STATE LAW

Texas Health and Safety Code, Section 81.041 requires that notifiable diseases be reported to the local health authority.

The local health authority is required to keep a record of each report and forward them to the Central Office according to rules maintained in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC).

FRIENDLY REMINDER

Please respect your co-workers’ privacy. It’s the right thing to do, and it’s the law! Please do not share health information, and definitely do not share rumors about positive COVID-19 tests. During these anxious times, we all appreciate a little extra kindness. If a coworker chooses to share health information, it’s certainly a good idea to support them while following CDC guidelines.
