Welcome, Trustee Dolly Trolley!

We are excited to announce that Rene Deleon is now the Director of Maintenance and Operations. Mr. Deleon has been with the district for 29 years, and a great asset to the district!

The CCISD Board of Trustees has approved Dolly Trolley to fill the remainder of the term for the District 4 seat. She will be sworn in during the Jan. 25 meeting.

Congratulations to Marie Soza, Homebound Teacher, for being recognized by Driscoll Children’s Hospital. Marie Soza is a CCISD Hospital Program teacher. We are #CCISDProud of Ms. Soza’s dedication to our students’ success.

Teacher Incentive Alllotment Survey for Stakeholders On behalf of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) Committee, the Office of Professional Learning would like to gather your feedback regarding interest and questions about the TIA. 2021 Partners in Education recognition and awards We invite you to recognize the businesses, organizations and individuals who have supported our students this school year by nominating them for a 2021 Partners in Education Award.

We encourage campuses, CCISD employees and departments to submit nominations. Please note that nomination categories include ones for CCISD employees and students. The district will announce the award recipients and thank our generous donors and volunteers on Thursday, March 25. The deadline to submit is 4:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22. Free COVID-19 Testing for CCISD employees Thank you to our Office of Student Health Services, who will offer free COVID-19 rapid testing from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Lozano cafeteria, 1761 Hudson Street. Pre-registration is required.

Testing is voluntary, free and open to employees only. Employees who are not on intersession will need to clock out, and may include their lunch break time as part of their time away from their workspace. Please work with your supervisor to ensure adequate office coverage. During your appointment, you will receive instructions on how to swab your nostril. A nurse will complete the test, and you will receive an email with your results within a few hours. Appointments will generally take 10-15 minutes, with areas sanitized between persons. Is it COVID-19 or the flu?

Last year, the influenza virus caused an estimated 35 million illnesses in the U.S. The severity of this year’s flu season is unpredictable, but with the arrival of winter, many people may be coughing and sneezing, so the likelihood of transmission is higher.

How do I distinguish between flu symptoms and COVID-19 symptoms?

In the beginning, it can be very hard to differentiate between the two viruses because they share many of the same symptoms: fever, fatigue, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, body aches, headaches, vomiting, and diarrhea. However, there are several distinct differences in symptoms between the flu and the virus that causes coronavirus.

The loss of taste and smell is specific to COVID-19. It is not seen in people who have the flu. While it may not manifest in all individuals who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, about 40 % have experienced this symptom.

COVID symptoms tend to last longer that the flu. They can last for weeks or even months, particularly cough and shortness of breath.

Red, swollen eyes that look like pink eye are a symptom of some strains of COVID. Another symptom that has shown to be unique to the virus that causes COVID is skin rash. New or unexplained painful skin bumps, usually red or purple in color, can appear on the extremities, particularly on the toes. While it is possible to test positive for the flu and COVID-19 at the same time, medical experts say that the chance of a coinfection is very, very low.

It is important, now more than ever, to protect yourself from getting the flu. Here is how: 1. Get a flu shot. The COVID-19 vaccine may still be rolling out, but the flu vaccine is widely available. The flu shot is now available in most pharmacies and health clinics.

2. Practice safety precautions. Fortunately, the preventive measures for COVID-19 also apply for the flu: avoiding large crowds and gatherings, wearing a mask, social distancing, frequent handwashing, and staying at home when you feel sick. These are all preventions for COVID as well as influenza transmission.

3. Take care of your immune system. Caring for your immune system is very important to fight off infections, especially viruses. Everyone should stay as healthy as possible. Eating a healthy, balanced diet, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep will help boost your immune system.

- Face coverings are required prior to entering any Corpus Christi ISD building.

- All employees are required to wear face coverings at all times unless seated at a workstation with dividers or in an office. If a co-worker enters these spaces, both employees must wear their face coverings.

- Eating at your desk is encouraged. Do not sit with others to eat, as this can spread infection.

- CCISD buildings remain closed to the public. Guests are not permitted unless authorized by a supervisor. Guests must wear face coverings at all times.

- Social distancing required. Non-work-related visits to other departments prohibited.

- Employees with questions or needing assistance may talk with their supervisor or Human Resources.

- Thank you for helping keep your co-workers, yourself, and your family safe!

While many locations have been approved to be COVID-19 providers, we must be patient during this time as they await allotments from the State of Texas.
