CCISD would like to congratulate Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Maria Luisa Guerra on her upcoming retirement! Her final day with our district will be Thursday, Jan. 14.

Special Called Board Meeting 9:00 a.m.

Dr. Guerra joined the district in 2014, and was instrumental in helping our team transform learning on our campuses. Her leadership has been essential as CCISD has progressed over the years to become an emerging leader in our state.

Melody Pro, Coordinator for CTE, received the Outstanding Leadership and Service award from Moody High School and the National Technical Honor Society.

District Athletic Coordinator Doug Bull is now a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA). He joins Richard Ocanas, who earned a CAA 2 years ago, and Brenda Marshall, who earned her certification 19 years ago.

CCISD Multimedia Fair Deadline

CCEF Hearts & Mind Virtual 5K Due to COVID-19, the Corpus Christi Education Foundation will host its 4th annual CCEF Hearts & Minds 5K virtually. The foundation wants to ensure the health and safety of all students and other participants. Students and other participants will have from January 29 – February 28 to complete the 5K run/walk on their own time.

Thanks to our generous sponsors, this event is free of charge for all CCISD students. However, if parents or others from our community would like to join the virtual 5K, they may register and pay the entry fee.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information and Updates As many of you have probably heard, COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to area healthcare facilities in the Corpus Christi area.

The current vaccines are being manufactured by two different laboratories; Pfizer and Moderna. Both vaccines require a booster or second dose to be given between 21 to 28 days apart to give full protection against COVID-19.

The booster must be from the same manufacturer as the initial vaccine.

The vaccination program will be implemented in phases based on those individuals considered most “at risk” of severe disease or death from COVID-19.

Currently vaccines are being provided for those who fall in Phase 1A and Phase 1B: Phase 1A: • Hospital staff such as doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and support staff (custodial staff, etc.). It also includes clinical staff such as lab, pharmacy and diagnostic services.

• Long term care staff that work directly with residents at nursing homes and assisted living centers including doctors, nurses, personal care staff, custodial workers and food service staff.

• EMS workers who provide 911 services and transport.

• Home health and hospice staff.

• Residents of long-term care facilities.

• Outpatient care staff.

• Free-standing emergency clinic staff.

• Community pharmacy employees.

• Public health and emergency staff such as those who test for COVID–19 or administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

• Last responders who provide mortuary or death services.

• School nurses.

Phase 1B: • People age 65 or older.

• People 16 years of age and older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19, such as: • Cancer.

• Chronic kidney disease.

• COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

• Heart conditions.

• Organ transplantation.

• Obesity and severe obesity.

• Pregnancy.

• Sickle cell disease.

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

For those who do not fall into Phase 1A or 1B categories, the CDC reports that the vaccine should be available to the general public in Spring of 2021. You can search for providers in your area here.

If you answered “yes” to these questions, CCISD has partnered with Elite Plus to present an “Understanding TRS” meeting. Elite Plus, CCISD’s 457 retirement plan provider, will explain how the TRS process works.
