October 2 was National Custodial Worker’s Day! Schools across the district showed their appreciation for everything our custodial workers do to help keep schools safe and clean for our staff and students.

Employee Giving Campaign makes an impact The Employee Giving campaign began Oct. 1. Read below to find out how donations made an impact at Joseph T. Dawson Elementary School.

“Our goal was to support struggling readers by providing students with their own multisensory materials they could safely use to support their reading. Students were excited to have their own materials and were motivated during the hands-on lesson,” said Keri Meschko, dyslexia specialist. “Students really grasped reading and spelling multi-syllable words using sylla boards. This will be used for years to come. So many students will be impacted because of this grant.”

Gloria Hicks elementary teachers surprised with $10,000 donation On Oct. 4, Gloria Hicks and Hicks Family Subaru surprised Gloria Hicks Elementary teachers with a $10,000 donation as part of the Subaru Loves Learning Initiative.

All teachers will receive funds to buy supplies and other classroom items.

Meet Dale Perryman!

It is Dale’s first year with CCISD! Dale teaches physical education at Sterling B. Martin Middle School.

He enjoys spending time with family, watching movies and traveling.

“What inspired me to become a teacher was realizing the impact teachers can have on students. I wanted to have a positive impact on my students.”

14th Annual State of the District, Employee Giving Campaign

This year’s State of the District event will be October 27, 2021, at the American Bank Center.

Let’s show our support for the Corpus Christi Education Foundation throughout October by wearing foundation’s lanyard given to all staff during this year’s Convocation!

The Hearts & Minds Showcase will be from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The showcase is an opportunity for campuses to feature student achievement and teaching excellence. Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez will give the keynote address at 11:45 a.m.

Event sponsorships help fund programs, recognize teaching excellence and enhance education to develop the hearts and minds of our students.

Two-day training strengthened coaching teachers, improving student learning

Microsoft Teams training

The Curriculum and Instruction Department participated in a two-day interactive training from Relay Education. The training emphasized effective ways to prepare for and provide coaching feedback.

During Intersession Week the Office of Instructional Technology will be hosting Microsoft Teams training for campus leaders and all administrative levels. Teams is now part of Outlook, so it’s important to start learning.

The training also emphasized exceptional school leaders succeed because of how they use their time, what they do and how and when they do it.

Sessions will get you started and provide guidance. A more advanced session will also be provided for those who are familiar with Teams and want to learn more.

Participants learned the four keys to effective observation and feedback: • • • •

Locking in frequent observation Identifying the most important areas for growth Giving direct face-to-face feedback with specific action steps for growth Creating systems to ensure feedback is practiced

Annual flu and other vaccines clinics for employees and spouses H-E-B will be in the district through Friday, Oct. 29, to provide flu shots and other vaccines. There will be a clinic at each district propery location. Click here for a schedule and locations.

Employees and spouses enrolled in the district’s group health plan with BlueCross BlueShield may receive the flu shot, the pneumonia vaccine and the tetanus booster from H-E-B at no cost. H-E-B will also provide the first dose of the twodose series of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and will provide a vaccination card following the vaccine.

Please bring your Express Scripts prescription card and the a completed Vaccine Consent Form to the flu/vaccine clinic.

COVID-19 testing for CCISD students and staff CCISD is offering testing clinics for CCISD students and employees. Testing is always voluntary. To help us schedule, referrals the school nurse or Employee Benefits are encouraged, but not required. Walk-in testing is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students under 18 will need a parent present to sign a consent form.

COVID-19 vaccines CCISD encourages everyone age 12 and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

CCISD is partnering with the City of Corpus Christi and the Nueces County Public Health District for mobile COVID-19 Clinics.
