COVID-19 TESTING COVID-19 testing for CCISD staff and students is available at Lozano Instructional Service Center. Clinic hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Appointments may be scheduled online. Walk-in appointments will be based on availability. Parent authorization is required for all students under 18 years of age.

District administrators, Board of Trustees, Texas A&M University-CC officials and the ECDC campus celebrated renovations and upgrades to the campus on Friday, Oct. 28.

Each classroom in the pre-k center is decorated according to a dynamic theme.

“Our community’s collaborative spirit makes us special. The Early Childhood Development Center has a proud tradition of partnership with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi,” Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez said during the ceremony. “We will continue to work together, benefiting from the university’s early childhood education expertise as well as providing a training ground for our area’s next generation of educators.”

In the Board Room: Outgoing trustees recognized for service

Debby Ruiz Sam Houston ES

MEET DEBBY RUIZ! It is Debby’s first year with CCISD! She is a reading interventionist and dyslexia teacher at Sam Houston Elementary School.

When she is not on campus, Debby enjoys spending time with her grandson, painting and reading while drinking a good cup of coffee.

Debby said her 10th grade Algebra 2 teacher inspired her to become a teacher.

“She was the first person who made me feel like I was good at math. She believed in me and always made me feel safe to take chances in her class.”

The Corpus Christi ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Oct. 24 was also the final meeting for trustees John Longoria and Kevin Mihm. They were each given a proclamation and a special plaque.

John Longoria demonstrated dedication to CCISD students, parents and residents through service as a CCISD trustee from 2006-2022. He served as Board Officer, including two terms as Board President, one term as Vice President, one term as Assistant Secretary, four terms as Fiscal Management Chair and one term as Curriculum & Students Committee Chair. Longoria spearheaded the Corpus Christi Education Foundation’s first 5K fundraising run, which has become among the largest in South Texas. He has also served as PTA president and in other volunteer capacities on CCISD campuses.

Kevin Mihm accepted a board appointment and served as a trustee from January 24, 2022, to November 13, 2022. He has served on the Fiscal Management Committee and served as a member of the Corpus Christi Education Foundation’s Board of Directors. He enthusiastically supported CCISD’s mission and approached all challenges with an eye toward finding solutions.

The members of the Board of Trustees express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Kevin Mihm and John Longoria for their dedication and service.

The board also honored the August and September Above the Line employees of the month winners and thanked the Corpus Christi Education Foundation for raising $147,600 from this year’s State of the District fundraising luncheon.

2022-2023 Employee Giving Campaign The 2022-2023 Employee Giving Campaign kicked off Oct. 17. The campaign benefits the Corpus Christi Education Foundation, which exists soley to benefit CCISD. All funds raised help support grants for teachers and scholarships for our students.

Show your school spirit and help your campus earn recognition!

The elementary, middle and high school with the highest totals will receive a banner to display at their campus. Campuses will also receive board recognition.

If you would like to participate, please print, complete and sign the Employee Giving Donation form. *Employees are never expected, nor required to make a contribution.

CCISD PD leads Red Ribbon Week parade With lights and sirens at the ready, Corpus Christi ISD police officers and local law enforcement agencies made their way to campuses to greet our students. They were welcomed with encouraging posters, big smiles and cheers from both students and staff.

“It’s the goal of CCISD Police Department and all law enforcement agencies to establish an atmosphere that supports awareness and education for the students of CCISD,” Sgt. Monica Lewis said.
