During the Oct. 16 Board of Trustees Meeting, the board recognized several district employees. Among the recognitions was the Ray High School Athletic Maintenance Crew. John Martinez, Tony Pantoja and Blas Sanchez prevented a 2-year-old child from wandering into a nearby roadway. The board also recognized September Above the Line employee of the month winners and The Human Resources Department for Texas Education Human Resources Day.

SPOTLIGHT Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez addresses the state legislative agenda and its implications for our school district.

Teachers of Tomorrow scholarship information Teachers of Tomorrow wants to award 20 aspiring teachers with the New Teacher Scholarship to help them become certified educators.

Recipients of each scholarship will have their Teachers of Tomorrow program fee covered.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31, 2023. Apply online at Teachersoftomorrow.org.

Creekside Elementary to be home of the Sharks With the announcement of their official mascot, Creekside Elementary School has reached a “fintastic” milestone in their progress toward an August 2024 opening.

As the Creekside school building nears completion, third and fourth grade students at Kolda Elementary School shared their expertise by voting to select their neighboring school’s mascot. Would it be the Sharks or the Pelicans?

Following an opportunity to cast ballots from Oct. 2 through Oct. 5, the clear choice was the Sharks, with school colors of blue and turquoise.

The new school building is scheduled to welcome students for the 2024-2025 school year.

On November 16, district officials will break ground on a new middle school on adjacent property.

Two campuses named finalists for best pre-school Congratulations to Menger Elementary School and Metro E School of Design! The campuses were named finalists in the Pre-School category of the Caller-Times’ 2023 Community’s Choice Awards(formerly known as Best of the Best).

Insurance information: Open enrollment Open enrollment is here! The Office of Employee Benefits is looking forward to assisting with 2024 insurance benefits needs during open enrollment. The open enrollment period is from Oct. 16 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2.

Every employee must log in to the enrollment system to review the acknowledgements, then elect or waive insurance benefits as applicable. The benefit enrollment form can be completed online. At the login page, use your regular network username and password.
