Veterans Memorial launches U.S. Coast Guard NJROTC
On Nov. 14 Veterans Memorial High School celebrated the establishment of the state’s only U.S. Coast Guard JROTC unit. The unit began at the beginning of the school year, under the direction of Senior Maritime Science Instructors Matt Gully and Michael O’Leary, led by school principal Scott Walker.
“Corpus Christi is home to a large military community, and we are glad to serve military connected students and their families,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez.

Teachers, staff recognized for dedication
Chanta Gidrey, teacher at Miller High School, was recognized as the November Teacher of the Month by Corpus Christi City Council.
Mrs. Gidrey has been teaching for 12 years. She has taught middle school social studies, science and math.
“As a teacher, I am most proud of being able to see the students from my first year of teaching, graduate from high school,” she said.
During the Nov. 11 Board Meeting, the Board recognized the Above the Line employee of the month winners and Jane Bell for her service to the Board of Trustees. We thank Jane Bell for her many years of service to CCISD students and staff.

Kids Pantry
The CCISD Office of Student Wellness and Intervention Services and Office of Students in Transition need items to support our students who are experiencing homelessness and/or may not be in the physical custody of a parent or guardian throughout this holiday season.
This is an opportunity to provide a variety of holiday foods during the Winter break for these students and their families. As part of the holiday giving project, the Administration Building will be collecting items for this cause.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 18, large, wrapped boxes will be placed on the first floor and the mezzanine area at the Administration Building as collection points. A box will also be located by the front doors of CIRC. Collection will continue through Friday, Dec. 13.
Below are suggested items needed:
• Boxed Stuffing/Dressing
• Canned Cranberry Sauce
• Canned Corn
• Canned Green Beans
• Boxed Mashed Potatoes
• Canned Black-Eyed Peas
• Canned Sweet Potatoes
• Packets of Turkey Gravy
• Other canned, boxed or nonperishable food items are welcome
* ITEMS CAN NOT BE EXPIRED OR EXPIRING BEFORE 12/31/2024
Additionally, the Office of Student Wellness and Intervention Services is collecting GIFT CARDS TO WALMART AND H-E-B IN THE AMOUNT OF $10 (increments of $10 only and with no expiration date). All items above will be packaged together with a gift card to create a full holiday meal for our students and families.
