CCISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez, district administration and student representatives lifted a gold shovel to signify the start of construction of a new elementary school. The groundbreaking ceremony was for one of three new elementary schools made possible by Bond 2020. The campus, which will be built on the former Cullen Middle School site, will house students from Meadowbrook, Montclair and Woodlawn elementary schools.

The new 92,300 square foot campus will be built to house 1,000 students. The building will maximize natural lighting and include collaborate workspaces. The campus will be complete with a cafetorium, 52 classrooms, a secure courtyard, secure entry vestibule and security system. Construction is expected to be complete in summer 2023.

District announces principal assignments As the 2021-2022 school year winds down, Corpus Christi ISD has announced that three district principals will have new assignments starting in the 2022-2023 school year.

2022-2023 Cooperating Teacher application CCISD is proud of the partnerships with university teacher preparation programs in the surrounding area. We are taking applications for the 2022-2023 school year. If you are interested in mentoring a clinical teacher, please complete the application here.

To be considered for the first round of placements, please complete the application by June 17.

Werner “Bucky” Hartman, Harold C. Kaffie Middle School Hartman previously served as principal of Robert Driscoll Middle School.

Christine Sierra, Calk-Wilson Elementary School Sierra previously served as principal of Los Encinos Elementary School.

•

Laura Perales, Los Encinos Elementary School Perales previously led Oak Park Elementary School.

As is common during the summer months, CCISD will continue to share new leadership information as it becomes available. June 1 is the last day of school, and the 2022-2023 school year will begin Aug. 9.

In the Board Room: Board gets update on projects The Board of Trustees recognized several students for their accomplishments during the May 23 board meeting. The board also received an update on Bond 2018 and Bond 2020 projects.

The new Carroll High School is 85% complete and is expected to open this coming school year. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Southeast Elementary School will be in July, and another ceremony for the new Weldon Gibson Elementary School will be announced soon.

Renovation at Roy Miller High School, W.B. Ray High School and Moses Menger Elementary School will begin in June.

The board also passed the following items: • Renewal of agreement with Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend.

• Agreement with College Board for SAT School Day and PSAT exams.

• Purchase of districtwide custodial supplies.

• Agreement with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for Early Childhood Development Center.

Congratulations, Above the Line winners Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez recently announced the April 2022 Above the Line employees.

Three honorees were surprised at their work locations with the announcement they had been selected.

Marianne Mojica, first grade teacher, Windsor Park Elementary School Ms. Mojica has dedicated her life to educating students at Windsor Park. She has taught first grade at Windsor Park for 38 years. She is a true leader and problem solver. She is always ready and willing to do what it takes to ensure our programs are top notch. She will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Roland Salazar, safety officer, Richard King High School Officer Salazar puts forth his best efforts every day to ensure the safety and well-being of every student and employee. He connects students with proper resources on campus and helps students with lessons. He is happy to visit classrooms and is a valuable mentor to students. He supports teachers and staff and is always ready to lend a helping hand.

Dr. Laurie Beveridge, assistant principal, Roy Miller High School Dr. Beveridge gives 100% of her heart and soul for the good of our campus and students. She works diligently to come up with new ideas and activities that will promote student success. She initiated the Miller Mentor Program, which created connections with students who may need support to continue being successful. She is part of a team that makes sure campus goals are reached.
