Soar into reading: Los Encinos Elementary reveals new library

The brand-new Los Encinos Elementary School library is a great place for reading adventures to take flight. Thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate the campus’ new library. A special thank you to the Education Service Center, Region 2 for supporting this transformation. The library at Los Encinos Elementary was made possible through the LEARN IT grant funding awarded to ESC, Region 2.

Windows 11 upgrade

Technology Services Staff will coordinate with department leads and Principals to identify the date(s) in which your site will be updated. Updates will take place between March 2025 through July 2025. During this time, each site/ department will be provided an inventory of computers that indicates whether they can be updated to Windows 11. All staff should ensure that they have backed up their data prior to the update, including files and browser bookmarks. For more information on how to back up data visit this Knowledge Base article. Staff can also enter a help desk ticket for additional support.

District names new campus leaders

As Corpus Christi ISD prepares for the 2025-2026 school year, the district is announcing new elementary school leaders.

The district has named Amanda VasquezKotch as the principal of Stanley Kostoryz Elementary School. Vasquez-Kotch most recently served as assistant principal of Kostoryz Elementary School. Her prior experience includes serving as an instructional coach and a fourth grade teacher. VasquezKotch follows Stevie Garcia, who was recently named principal of Lexington Middle School.

Dr. Susan Croteau will serve as the principal of Joseph T. Dawson Elementary. Dr. Croteau most recently served as an assistant principal at Club Estates Elementary School, and has served as an assistant principal at Rafael Galvan Elementary School. She follows Kimberly Ellis, who is relocating outside the Coastal Bend.

Jose Valerio has been named principal of Oak Park Elementary. Valerio most recently served as an assistant principal at James W. Fannin Elementary School. He also has served in leadership roles at W.B. Ray High School, Sam Houston and Berlanga elementary schools. Valerio follows Federico Saqui-Lara, who is relocating outside the Coastal Bend.

Corpus Christi ISD is also pleased to announce Michelle Perkins will serve as the principal of Blanche Moore Elementary School. Perkins was recently named the interim principal of Moore Elementary and previously served as the campus’ assistant principal. She follows Dr. Aurelio Tamayo, who serves as principal of Roy Miller High School.

“We are proud to welcome four exceptional, dedicated leaders into these key roles,” Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez said. “Their experience will ensure a smooth transition and continued strong leadership across the district.”

Thursday, May 29, is the district’s last day of school. Graduations for the district’s six comprehensive high schools will follow May 30 and 31. For a complete schedule, please visit ccisd.us.

Dr. D. Scott Elliff Scholarship recipient

The Corpus Christi Education Foundation announced recipients of two 2025 scholarships. Each recipient was surprised with news they were receiving the scholarships.

Lori Leal, registrar at Harold T. Branch Academy, received the Dr. D. Scott Elliff Scholarship. This scholarship will assist her in furthering her education as she pursues a degree at Del Mar College.

Jakob Martinez, a senior at Mary Carroll High School, was awarded the Marie and Arturo Vasquez Scholarship. The scholarship will support Jakob’s endeavors as he attends Del Mar College.
