As the end of the school year approches, several administrators, teachers and staff joined in on the fun with their students. Slime and paint were involved!

COVID-19 and back-to-school immunizations

Head custodian retires after 34 years of service

Head Custodian Jose “Joe” Rivera is retiring after 34 years of service with CCISD. Joe has worked at Schanen Estates, Kaffie Middle School, Blanche Moore Elementary School, Prescott Elementary School Chula Vista Elementary School and Los Encinos Elementary School.

The Corpus Christi - Nueces County Public Health District is offering COVID-19 and back to school immunizations. Immunizations began May 20 and will resume through June 10. The clinic will be at Greenwood Senior Center by appointment.

Students will need immunization records and parental consent. The COVID-19 vaccine is free.

Biometric screening

He was described by Los Encinos staff as going above and beyond to keep the campus safe and clean for students and staff. Joe has helped decorate for several staff appreciation days throughout his time with the district. Los Encinos students and staff treated Joe to a parade, where his family made a surprise appearance.

“I’ll miss the kids, and everyone who works here in this school,” Joe said. “I’ve enjoyed the job.”

Summer tuition savings at UT-Arlington

You should have received a detailed email about the 2021 Biometric Screening Form necessary to continue to receive the $60 monthly discount for health insurance. Hard copies were also sent to Supervisors at Transportation, Food Service and Facilities & Operations.

Did you know having five or more sunburns doubles your risk for melanoma? Did you know 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70?

Skin cancer the most common cancer in the U.S. It is also the most preventable. About 85% of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. As you prepare for your time off this summer, remember to wear the appropriate clothing and sunscreen in order to protect yourself from the sun.

The deadline to submit the forms to Human Resources is October 31, 2021.

If you carry your spouse on the health plan, a separate Biometrics Screening Form was included in your email.

Health tips

If you are considering an online M.Ed., UT-Arlington is offering tuition savings of $500. The dealine to apply is June 3.

Classes begin June 28.
