Hurricane season started June 1. Are you prepared?

Here is a checklist of things to do to prepare.

• Put together an emergency kit. Make sure the kit has water, food, battery-powered radios, a flashlight, first aid kit, batteries, toiletries and cell phone chargers. Find more items for kits here.

• Have a plan. Make sure friends and family know how you will get in touch with each other and where you will go in case of a hurricane. Include specific household needs, such as medical or dietary needs, and tailor the plan accordingly. Find help creating a plan here.

• Secure your home. Cover all the windows in your home with shutters or boards. Bring in outdoor furniture.

Hurricane safety tips There are still things to watch out for after a hurricane has passed.

• Throw out food that got wet or warm.

• Clean and disinfect everything that got wet.

• Avoid drinking tap water until local officials say it is safe to do so.

• Do not touch floodwaters, as they may contain bacteria or chemicals.

Pre-School for CCISD employees’ children All employees’ children may attend Pre-K at a discounted rate of $375 per month.

CCISD will also offer Pre-K age 3 at Menger Elementary School.

To register, visit enrollment.ccisd.us. Click on “New Students Regisitration.”

For Menger registration for 3 year olds, call 361-878-2640 to finalize registration.

2022-2023 Cooperating Teacher application CCISD is proud of the partnerships with university teacher preparation programs in the surrounding area. We are taking applications for the 2022-2023 school year. If you are interested in mentoring a clinical teacher, please complete the application here.

To be considered for the first round of placements, please complete the application by June 17.

District promotes three assistant principals to lead elementary campuses

Corpus Christi ISD is pleased to announce the promotion of three assistant principals. They are part of the district’s ongoing efforts to develop a pipeline of emerging leaders.

Stacy Mitchan will be the new principal of William B. Travis Elementary School.

Mitchan has served as an assistant principal at Lorenzo de Zavala Elementary School since July 2021.

She has also served as an assistant principal at Gloria Hicks and George Evans elementary schools.

Mitchan, who has been with the district since 2003, earned a master’s in curriculum and instruction and a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Federico Saqui Lara will be the new leader of Oak Park Elementary School, following Laura Perales’ move to Los Encinos Elementary School. Saqui Lara has served as an assistant principal of Robert Driscoll Middle School since 2019, during which the campus received the designation of an AVID National Demonstration School. Saqui Lara also served as a teacher at Meadowbrook Elementary School.

Saqui Lara, who has been with the district since 2014, earned a master’s in business administration and a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Texas at Brownsville.

The Schanen Estates Shamrocks’ new leader will be Violeta Guerra, who has been an assistant principal at Montclair Elementary School since 2018. Guerra has served the district since 2008, including teaching and district-level instructional coaching.

Guerra has a master’s in educational administration from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
