July 20 and 21, district administrators staff attended the annual Superintendent’s Leadership Conference.

Keynote speaker Manny Scott encouraged the audience to foster students’ thirst for learning. Scott, one of the original freedom writers, spoke to district staff about what it takes to be a great leader to employees and students.

In the Board Room During the Monday, July 19, meeting, the Board of Trustees: •Recognized several staff members and students for UIL awards, Academic All District Baseball and All State Dance.

•Approved an agreement with Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend.

•Approved an agreement for various HVAC upgrades.

Paraprofessional Trainings The Office of Special Education is presenting additional training opportunities for our valued paraprofessionals.

CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Wilson named ATPE Administrator of the Year Dr. Bruce Wilson, the district’s Executive Director for School Leadership - High Schools, was named a Charles Pickitt Administrator of the Year by the Association of Texas Professional Educators. Wilson recently served as principal of Roy Miller High School.

Wilson also received a $5,000 cash prize.

Corpus Christi ISD also named Kelsie Morris and Elizabeth Perez as Executive Directors for School Leadership. Morris, who most recently served as principal of Zachary Kolda Elementary School, also has served the district as principal of Stanley Kostoryz Elementary School, where she worked with staff members to transform the school from Improvement Required to Met Standard, receiving an overall rating of an 89 in 2019.

Perez, who has served as principal of Richard King High School since 2016, has been with Corpus Christi ISD for 21 years, including service as principal of Claude Cunningham Middle School and assistant principal of Mary Carroll High School. Under her leadership at King, the campus earned more than 13 distinctions under the most recent Texas Education Agency accountability system, a first for the campus under any accountability system.

Operations S.OS. helps area students get the supplies they need Operation S.O.S helps area kids get supplies they need for the upcoming school year. KRIS 6, the United Way and H-E-B are in partnership for the campaign.

Donations of $1, $3 and $7 can be added to your total at H-E-B stores. Donations can also be made by texting “SOS” to 91999.

“Anything that we in the district can do as administrators and teachers to support our students and the families, that’s what we want to do to take pressure off of them,” Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez said in an interview with KRIS 6.
