It’s a great time to be a Gibson bear!

Last week, the district had a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Weldon Gibson Elementary School. The campus is one of three new elementary schools made possible by Bond 2020.

The new campus will be built on the same site as the current campus. The campus will have 27 classrooms, three collaborative spaces, a media center and several security features. For more information about the new campus, click here.

Pre-K for CCISD employees’ children All employees’ children may attend Pre-K at a discounted rate of $375 per month.

Rafael Galvan Elementary School principal Diana Ybarra ATPE Educator of the Year Congratulations to Diana Ybarra, principal of Rafael Galvan Elementary School, for being named the Association of Texas Professional Educators’ 2021-2022 Charles Pickitt Educator of the Year (Administrator)!

The Charles Pickitt Educator of the Year Awards annually recognize members who demonstrate exceptional or innovative capabilities in their educational fields.

District leaders selected to Corpus Christi Under 40, Leadership Corpus Christi Class 51 Kimberly Ellis, principal of Joseph T. Dawson Elementary School was selected to Corpus Christi Under 40. The organization recognizes outstanding community members under 40 years of age who have made significant contributions in their professional fields and through service in the community. Nominees are selected through a scoring process.

John Dibala, construction project manager for CCISD, was also selected to participate in Leadership Corpus Christi Class 51. Class participants learn about Corpus Christi’s history, economy, government structure and social issues and needs of the community.

Master of Education and certifcation programs Want to pursue a Master of Education or certification program?

The University of Texas - Arlington is waiving the application fee for Fall I session.

The dealine to apply is July 22.

Special Education preparation course We are now welcoming all new and returning families to complete the online registration process. Over the course of this week, CCISD families will receive a registration code via email. You will need this code to begin the registration process.

Education Service Center, Region 2 will host training for certified teachers. ESSER funds will support registration costs for CCISD employees who are interested.
