Above the Line Employees of the Month Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez recently announced the November Above the Line employees. Three honorees were surprised at their work locations with the announcement they had been selected.

Recent change to Board Policy DEC (Local) Regarding Reimbursement for Leave Upon Separation An employee who separates from employment with the District shall be eligible for reimbursement for local or state leave under the following conditions: 1. The employee’s separation from employment is voluntary, i.e., the employee is retiring or resigning and is not being discharged or nonrenewed.

2. The employee provides advance written notice of intent to separate from employment.

Contract employees must provide written notice at least 30 calendar days before the last day of employment. Noncontract employees must provide written notice at least 14 calendar days before the last day of employment.

3. Additional eligibility requirements for state leave reimbursement include: a. Employee must be retiring from Teacher’s Retirement System of Texas (TRS). b. Employee must have completed at least five years of service with the District. c. Employee may not be rehired with the District for three years, unless rehired as a substitute or in a shortage area recognized by the District as a severe shortage area.

Administrator - Sara Ajisafe, Assistant Principal, David Crockett Elementary School

Sara is willing to implement anything that will create a positive culture and environment. She has incorporated the House System at our school to promote positivism. She has gone above and beyond to put our House System in place so as to show our students that we all belong to the Pioneer Family.

She is extremely knowledgeable and shares her knowledge with staff and students. Ms. Ajisafe has reached out to the community and had drinks donated for our students and staff.

Our highest attendance percentage class on campus also received smoothies. She reached out to our community for sponsorship of our students for the Angel Tree Project. The sponsors delivered a Christmas holiday outfit for a student before they leave for the holiday.

Auxiliary - Jennifer Arciba, Recovery Specialist Solomon M. Coles High School

Jennifer’s job is to help students return back to school who have not enrolled on the first day of school. In one instance, Jennifer found a student who had not enrolled because the parent had no transportation and was disabled. Mrs. Arciba took it upon herself to go to the high school and obtain the paperwork needed to enroll the student, took the parent the information and obtained the proper signatures, and took it back to the high school. The student started the next day. Jennifer strongly believes that it takes everyone on a campus to help students succeed, especially with today’s pressures on our teens. She takes it to heart when a student drops out and there is nothing she can say or do to bring the student back. Jennifer continues to follow up with students to ensure they know education is a priority.

Educator - Julia Randel, 3rd Grade Teacher Sam Houston Elementary School

Mrs. Randel has been helping for the past three years, implement the Accelerated Reader program after school alongside the librarian. She is always willing to help instill the love of reading and motivates students, and colleagues alike.

She tries her best to encourage students to be the best that they can be and is not only helpful, she is also a good role model for the students. She strives hard to ensure students feel successful and maintain school expectations. She is always willing to volunteer to help instill reading after hours and shares ideas with her team. This teacher goes above and beyond to help her colleagues and students.

2020 Employee Benefits Information

Flexible Spending Accounts/Health Savings Accounts Benefits Employees who are currently participating in the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) under the cafeteria plan or the Health Savings Account (HSA) will continue to see deductions in December for elections made for the 2019 calendar year.

Any changes made during this year’s enrollment for the 2020 plan year will be reflected on the January 15 paycheck.

Happy Holidays!

Your 2020 health care plan and supplemental insurance premiums will be reflected in December paychecks.

Now that open enrollment for the district’s health care and supplemental insurance is complete, employees need to be mindful of changes that may be reflected on paychecks and requirements of the district’s health care plan for 2020. Be sure your paycheck insurance deductions are correct.

If you recently made changes to any of your insurance benefits effective January 1, 2020, be sure those changes are correctly reflected on your December 13 paycheck stub. It is important to review your coverages and deduction errors or omissions to prevent surprises when trying to access services.

It may be difficult, or even impossible, to correct errors once several months have passed. If there is a discrepancy on your paycheck with regard to benefit elections or have any insurance questions throughout the year, please contact Human Resources at 695-7250.

2020 United Way Campaign The CCISD annual workplace campaign benefitting United Way of the Coastal Bend, a local non-profit committed to improving lives in the areas of health, education and financial stability, is coming up. Funds raised here, stay here in the Coastal Bend. United Way assures donors they invest donations received in programs proven to help people build a better life.

If you choose to participate, please print, complete and sign the one-page donation form. Please submit the completed form to your supervisor no later than Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

Payroll deductions and/or one-time gifts options are available. As always, participation in fundraisers is optional.
