Welcome back, everyone!

I hope you had a restful summer and enjoyed extra time with friends and family. It is exciting to visit our campuses and see all the anticipation and activity as we prepare for Monday, Aug. 26.

Thank you for being part of the CCISD family. You have chosen a profession that changes lives and makes our neighborhoods better places. Our work is not easy. I like to think it’s the challenge that makes it worthwhile, and seeing our students’ success makes it even more rewarding.

I’m so proud of the work everyone did during the 2018-2019 school year, as I firmly believe it took all of us to become a “B” district, and it will take all of us to become an “A” district.

How can you help make CCISD an even better place?

• Provide excellent customer service. Continue to show our families how much we care and that we are here to help.

•Encourage families to complete the registration process. It helps us ensure we have their correct contact information on file as well as helps us connect them with resources that may make all the difference in their school experience.

•Finally, look for opportunities to go, as we say, “Above the Line.” When we all do our best, we can make a remarkable difference in the lives of our students.

Above the Line Employees of the Month The Superintendent’s Above the Line employee recognition program, designed to honor outstanding employees who are working to fulfill CCISD’s missions, will begin in September.

NOW ACCEPTING Grants for World-Class Schools Applications The Corpus Christi Education Foundation (CCEF) is offering grant awards up to $2,500 anually to teachers in CCISD through the Grants for WorldClass Schools program.

Projects must meet the following criteria: promote innovative programming, promote a culture of college readiness for all and recognize student achievement and teacher excellence.

Applications and additional information is available at www.ccef-ccisd.org The deadline to submit applications is September 27 at 4:30 p.m.

The start of a new school year brings the opportunity to recognize and appreciate the dedicated efforts of CCISD faculty and staff, and we are excited to launch this year’s Above the Line Employee Recognition Program!

CCISD wants to honor our outstanding employees who are working to fulfill our vision to “be a world-class school system,” through performing “Above the Line” consistently across our district. This program recognizes those who exceed expectations for students, parents, community members and/or fellow employees.

Any employee may submit monthly nominations for recognition. Award nominees must meet the following objectives, all of which fully support the CCISD mission, vision and district goals: • Empowerment (See it. Own it. Solve it. Do it.)

• Students First (Their success is our success.)

• Shared Vision, Shared Values (Personifies “Together we succeed.”)

There are three award recipients every month, in each of the following categories: • Educator & Other Professional • Administrator (Certified/Professional) • Auxiliary & Support Staff Nominations are always open for Above the Line employee recognitions.

CCISD announces new principals for the 2019-2020 school year

We are excited to begin a new school year with new principal assignments across our campuses. Join us in congratulating all of our leaders as they begin their new assignments. CCISD Clear Bag Policy As part of its work to continually improve district safety and security for students, staff and visitors, CCISD is implementing a clear-bag requirement for all athletic events at Cabaniss Sports Complex and Buccaneer Stadium, starting the 2019-2020 school year.

Any visitor, spectator or patron attending an event held at these venues will be required to follow this procedure for high school and middle school events.

Clear tote bags may be plastic, vinyl or pvc. They may not exceed 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches. A small clutch bag no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches approximately the size of a hand - (with or without a handle or strap) is approved. Other bags such as backpacks, diaper bags and camera bags, etc. will not be allowed in the stadium. H-E-B will offer these bags during their Back to School season. Mira’s Sports and More will offer the bags at their retail store.

Recent change to Board Policy DEC (Local) Regarding Reimbursement for Leave Upon Separation An employee who separates from employment with the District shall be eligible for reimbursement for local or state leave under the following conditions: 1. The employee’s separation from employment is voluntary, i.e., the employee is retiring or resigning and is not being discharged or nonrenewed.

2. The employee provides advance written notice of intent to separate from employment. Contract employees must provide written notice at least 30 calendar days before the last day of employment. Noncontract employees must provide written notice at least 14 calendar days before the last day of employment.

3. Additional eligibility requirements for state leave reimbursement include: a. Employee must be retiring from Teacher’s Retirement System of Texas (TRS). b. Employee must have completed at least five years of service with the District. c. Employee may not be rehired with the District for three years, unless rehired as a substitute or in a shortage area recognized by the District as a severe shortage area.

CCISD events and reminders

2019-2020 School Calendar Save $60 per month on your CCISD health insurance!

CCISD employees covered by the district’s health insurance plan are eligible for a monthly rate reduction of $60.

To receive yours, please ask your physician to fill in the Primary Care Physician form and fax it to 361-886-9857 by Saturday, August 31.

Once Human Resources receives your form, they will send you a confirmation email within 48 hours.
