The first two weeks of the 2021-2022 school year are in the books.

In addition to welcoming students, teachers and staff got the year started with planning for student questions, clarification, problem solving and much more to ensure students stay safe and get the most out of the year.

Many teachers also prepared social contracts of positivity for their classrooms.

Our Food Services team served over 70,000 meals to students during the first four days of school. A big thank you to #TeamCCISD for all you do! #CCISDproud.

CCISD’s secondary TOY named regional Secondary Teacher of the Year The Education Service Center, Region 2 named Luisa White regional Secondary Teacher of the Year for her work at Foy H. Moody High School.

Meet Kellie Lignitz-Hahn!

It is Kellie’s first year teaching with CCISD. She teaches 5th grade students at C.P. Yeager Elementary School.

Kellie has played the clarinet for over 32 years. She has played in ensembles in Corpus Christi and has enjoyed being part of the musical community.

“I love connecting with students and getting to see the lightbulb go on when they begin to understand concepts.”

CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Luisa is described as a “true Moody Trojan.” She graduated from the high school in 2011. Luisa was named the district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year in April. She currently works at Roy Miller High School.

“It’s amazing to see her grow and develop as an educator,” Moody principal Enrique Vela said. “She was a leader as a student athlete, as a coach and now has brought those leadership skills from the field into education.”

Veterans Memorial High School earns Texas Purple Star Campus Designation The Texas Education Agency announced Veterans Memorial High School earned a Purple Star Campus Designation for the 2021-2022 school year.

Purple Star designations are given to campuses that support military connected students and families and offer professional development opportunities for staff on issues military connected students may have. Veterans Memorial also recognizes Month of the Military Child every April.

“We know it can be difficult for military-connected students to move to a new school, and we want to make sure they always feel welcome while having the resources they need to be successful,” Principal Scott Walker said in an interview with the Caller-Times. Find the KRIS 6 News story here.

Corpus Christi Education Foundation opens educator grant applications The Corpus Christi Education Foundation is accepting applications for 2021-2022 Grants for World-Class Schools. The grant helps teachers and administrators fund innovative programs and projects that support higher levels of student learning. Grants of up to $2,500 are available. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m.
