District earns ‘B’ rating, 12 schools earn ‘A’ rating CCISD earned an 85, or “B,” from the Texas Education Agency’s state accountability system.

The rating comes after diligent work from all staff throughout COVID-19 restricitons.

“This rating is a direct result of everyone in our district working as a team to help our students recover from the academic impact of COVID,” Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez said. “Our work continues: we know we are progressing toward our goal of being named an ‘A’ district.”

Holdsworth Center partnership strengthens leadership

Sherrell M. Peacock Rafael Galvan ES

MEET SHERRELL MARIE PEACOCK! It is Sherrell’s first year with CCISD! She teaches 4th grade science and math at Rafael Galval Elementary School.

Sherrell enjoys spending time with her family, fishing and singing karaoke. She is also a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Sherrell said Ron Clark, the founder of the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, and Miss Frizzle, from the Magic School Bus, inspired her to be a teacher.

“I love that both of these teachers get excited to teach, and their students are excited to learn!”

The article, Putting the power to lead into the the hands of all employees, explains the the many departments involved in our district’s leadership task force.

The goal of the task force is to lead to a deeper, stronger bench of principals who can serve our students.

The district is one of 13 districts in Texas who were selected to participate in the Holdsworth Leadership Collaborative.

Robert Wollman Planetarium Newsletter Galactic Collision Aftermath

Autumnal Equinox

New images from the James Webb Space Telescope show the Cartwheel Galaxy still reeling from a collision with a smaller galaxy which may have occurred about 400 million years ago. Infrared cameras have peered through the dust and reveled star formation which was previously hidden and may have been triggered after the collision of the two galaxies.

The September equinox will occur at 00:55 UTC on September 23. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world.

This is also the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Cartwheel Galaxy is named from its bright inner ring and colorful outer ring. Many of the new stars are

forming in spoke-like patterns between the inner and outer rings.

Ring galaxies are very rare and usually have only one ring. Those with two rings are even more uncommon. The Cartwheel Galaxy’s double ring was probably a result of multiple waves of gas rippling back and forth in the galaxy after the collision from long ago.

Upcoming Meteor Showers

A meteor shower is an increase in the number of meteors or “shooting stars” that radiate, or originate from one point in the night sky. Meteor showers are named for the constellation that coincides with this region in the sky. For example, the radiant for the Draconids Meteor Shower is in the constellation Draco.
