Students given backpacks, supplies at L.E.A.D First back to school fair More than 1,400 students received backpacks and school supplies ahead of the first day of school during the L.E.A.D First Back to School Health and Education Fair Drive-Thru. The drive, at Roy Miller High School, was sponsored by Reliant Energy, The Coastal Bend Food Bank and other area businesses.

Meet Rebecca Blackburn!

It is Rebecca’s first year teaching with CCISD. She teaches 5th grade students at Weldon Gibson Elementary School.

“I became a teacher to inspire and show students that they are much larger than a number, and they can make a huge difference in society if they are set up for success. I believe students are capable of more than they know, and it is our job to help students realize their potential.”

COVID-19 vaccines

CCISD encourages everyone age 12 and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19. If you received a twodose vaccine, remember to get your second dose! To find an immunization clinic near you, visit Nuecesknows.com.

Myth: Getting the COVID-19 vaccine gives you COVID-19.

Fact: The vaccine will not give you COVID-19. The two mRNA vaccines “tell” your cells to reproduce a protein that is part of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which helps your body recognize and fight the virus. The protein that helps your immune system recognize and fight the virus does not cause infection.
