Former Veterans Memorial High School band director Sean Athey received the Barry Manilow Music Educator Award. The announcement was made during Manilow’s concert in Corpus Christi on Aug. 20. Athey, now assistant principal at Moody High School, was given a shout out during the concert. Athey was nominated while he served as band director of Veterans Memorial High School. Veterans Memorial will receive $5,000 for new band instruments, and Athey will receive $5,000. Congratulations, Mr. Athey! #CCISDproud
