Building Relationships in a Virtual Setting Why is it important to build a relationship with students? * Leads to improved academic success. * Motivates students to continue logging in because they feel safe and comfortable. * Makes interaction with parents easier. * Benefits the most vulnerable students.

Here are some relationship building ideas from our Behavior Intervention Specialists: * Every day, greet each student by name. * Show your world to your students. * Have students share about themselves in a way they feel comfortable doing. * Help ease students into class each day with a soft start, a fun activity like a game, a challenge problem, or a reflection question. (Example: Make a list of people who inspire you.) * Check-in with students by offering them an opportunity to share (Examples: high/ low, bud/thorn, pit/ peak of their day). Offer wait time, acknowledge every contribution to the group, encourage students to state something positive about themselves, their day, their future. * Vary classwork. Offer choices of what the final product could be (illustration, video, etc.). Foster group work through Zoom breakout sessions. * Request Feedback. Student feedback helps adjust instruction to better serve students’ needs.

Feedback communicates that you value input. * Provide timely, high-quality feedback on student assignments. * Encourage students to visit with you during remote office hours.

September Mental Health Calendar

The Office of Guidance and Couseling has prepared the September calendar of daily mental health and social and emotional learning tips. Check it out below!

C.A.R.E.S. Act

The Corpus Christi City Council will designate up to $715,000 to Corpus Christi ISD from the federal coronavirus relief funds allocated in the C.A.R.E.S. Act. The funds will be used to help purchase 1,800 Chromebooks and 790 hotspots. We thank the city for helping our students in need.

Health Plan Biometric Screening Form In order to continue the monthly discount of $60 per month for the health plan year of 2021, employees and spouses covered by the district’s health insurance plan will need to complete and submit the Biometric Screening Form by October 31, 2020.

The form can be found in the Forms folder at https://www. ccisd.us/HumanResources/ EmployeeBenefits. Employees can also call RediMD at 1-866-9892873 to complete this task.
