The Office of Instructional Technology is here to SUPPORT YOU! Our team has set up Skype and Zoom professional learning opportunities in the area of Canvas, Nearpod, and more. Each Instructional Technology team member has sent out reminders to each campus to provide professional learning opportunities. If you’re not sure who your support person is, find them in the Future Ready Instructional Support document.

Also, all of us are learning more about how to communicate effectively online.

SECURITY AWARENESS AND COMMUNICATING WITH STUDENTS As we continue to teach our students during the stay-at-home order, it is important to remember that we need to follow the same rules for communicating with students during the closure that we do during the regular school year. UPDATE FROM CCISD FOOD SERVICES

Since the closure of school due to COVID-19, the majority of the 350 CCISD food service employees have been serving at 17 sites providing breakfast and lunch meals Monday – Friday. The Gertrude B. Applebaum Food Service Facility Kitchen Staff has been packaging close to 5,000 lunches daily. The drivers have been delivering and warehouse staff receiving and distributing merchandise.

Office of Food Service Coordinators have scheduled staff, planned menus and purchased foods, developed procedures and supported the “troops on the ground” with anything needed. The awesome office staff has worked to make sure that business is still conducted so that meals can be served to the community.

Our Technology Specialist updated our computer system overnight to add sites and ensure meals could be accounted correctly for our federal program.We commend these employees for their service during this time.

Stay Vigilant Against Phishing Scams We wanted to take this time to make you aware that scammers and criminals are actively taking advantage of the chaos and isolation caused by the (COVID-19) Pandemic to target individuals and organizations. They know that their chances of success increase greatly while everyone is distracted and normal lines of communication are disrupted.

We have covered these things in the past but wanted to remind you to be extra alert and observant for anything that seems out of the ordinary.

In particular phishing scams that can pass through the District’s email and content filtering system during these trying times.

Note: To protect yourself and the District from phishing scams, the Department of Technology Services blocks malicious websites and emails as they are discovered.

• To protect yourself and the District from these phishing attempts, please follow these safety practices: • Do not click links for orders, invoices, or job opportunities unless you are expecting them. Look carefully at all links in emails. If you aren’t sure a link is legitimate and safe, don’t click it.

• Hover over links in emails with your mouse to see the actual source. When you hover over a link, check whether the website address matches the link in the message text. If the message claims to be from CCISD or a known vendor, look to see if the website address matches other CCISD or known vendor website addresses you are familiar with.

• If the website address doesn’t look right, don’t click it! The website address may not be a CCISD or a legitimate vendor website address.

• Do No Reply. If you are suspicious of a link or attachment, don’t click it, or reply to the email. Check with the sender by phone or in person to see if they actually sent the message. And be especially wary of Zip files, PDF files, or other compressed or executable file types.

• Be suspicious of any requests to transfer money or purchase items (including gift cards) - especially when pushed to do so immediately or outside of normal procedures.

• Do not provide sensitive personal information (like usernames and passwords) through email.

• Be wary of any emails saying your account is suspended or you have to take some action to migrate an account.

• Watch for spelling and grammatical mistakes. If an email includes spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors, it’s likely a sign you’ve received a phishing email.

• Watch for any emails trying to prey on fears related to the Coronavirus outbreak and your health.

Immediately report any suspicious email to the Help Desk. Report the email by sending the suspicious email as an attachment. The fraudulent email can be stopped before extensive damage is done to the District’s data, email system or to your personal information.

Warning: Clicking on fraudulent links may render your email account inoperable, thus costing you and the District valuable time without email to conduct ongoing business operations.

If you are not sure or suspect an email is malicious, please report it to the Help Desk.

Please respect your co-workers’ privacy. It’s the right thing to do, and it’s the law! Please do not share health information, and definitely do not share rumors about positive COVID-19 tests. During these anxious times, we all appreciate a little extra kindness. If a coworker chooses to share health information, it’s certainly a good idea to support them while following CDC guidelines.
