Two CCISD elementary schools were selected as H-E-B “Texas Loves Teachers Tour” stops.

Rose Shaw and Ella Barnes elementary schools were were two of 50 schools selected in the entire state. Schools were selected by a voting process.

Campuses received supplies, food and had a chance to win a giveaway of up to $500. H-E-B also used the stops to show their appreciation to teachers and campuses for adjusting to teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CCISD honors Teachers of the Year at celebration

As our community works to reach herd immunity, it is up to all of us to continue wearing masks, washing our hands and social distancing, even if we have been vaccinated.

Why? While many CCISD employees have been vaccinated, only about 28% of Nueces County adults are vaccinated, and children under the age of 16 are not yet eligible for vaccines. Additionally, while the immunizations are highly effective at preventing hospitalizations or death, and indications are they are highly effective at preventing disease, no immunization is 100% effective. Simple safety measures, such as wearing a mask, remain highly effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19.

CCISD Culture and Climate survey

You may have received an email asking for you to take part in CCISD’s Culture and Climate survey. The purpose of the survey is to gather perspectives on the district’s climate and culture to ensure district offerings meet the needs of students, parents and staff while maintaining district goals.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It is also completely anonymous.

The survey will be open until April 20 and is available in English and Spanish.

CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

CCISD celebrated Teacher of the Year nominees, finalists and winners during a celebration Wednesday evening at the Veterans Memorial High School Auditorium. Finalists also received $500. Rachel Beavers, Elementary Teacher of the Year, from Windsor Park Elementary School; and Luisa White, Secondary Teacher of the Year, from Foy H. Moody High School, both received an award, $1,000 and an iPad donated by Dahill Office Technologies.

How to provide mental health support at work Data shows some people may be working more now than before the COVID-19 pandemic. Some may find work and home lives overlapping, and can begin to feel overwhelmed.

It’s important to check in with your colleagues and employees to make sure they are feeling well and comfortable at work. It is also important to recognize the signs that someone may need extra support. You can check in on someone using these phrases: • Is something bothering you?

• Would you like to talk?

• I’ve noticed you’ve been more quiet than usual, and wondered if you’re ok?

A few signs of depression are: irritability, changes in self-care/ appearance, increased susbtance use, indecisiveness, thoughts about self-harm, low energy, sleep changes and feeling hopeless or helpless.

If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed with sadness, depression or anxiety, contact the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Disaster Distress Helpline at 800-985-5990. You can also contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or text MHFA to 741741 to talk to a Crisis Text line counselor. For more information, click here.

CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Spouses, Marylyn and Angelito Anatalio, are wrapping up their time teaching at CCISD with the J-1 Program, a teacher exchange program. Marylyn taught chemistry at Veterans Memorial High School, and Angelito taught Physics and Environmental Systems at Collegiate High School.

“We are deeply honored to have served and to continually serve the Corpus Christi Independent School District,” Marylyn said.

Two other teachers in the J1 Program teach mathamatics. Florentino Gubaton teaches at W.B. Ray High School, and Bienvenido Oliver teaches at Mary Carroll High School. #CCISDproud

ESC2 offering principal Heart Healthy Tips certification program April is Move More Month!

Want to become a principal?

The Education Service Center, Region 2 is accepting applicatoins for Partners for Educational Leadership.

The program consists of four weeks of classes June and July 2021. The courses prepare participants for an internship in the fall. Participants can complete internship requirements while remaining in their current positions.

The American Heart Association has these tips on how to dress for workout success.

• Choose a shoe based on comfort, and replace them when they no longer feel supportive.

• Wear lighter colors, reflective clothing or vests and attach lights to stay visible at dawn and dusk.

• Opt for moisture-wicking fabrics.
