Message from the President
Board of Directors 2019-2020
We are now fully into our fall/winter schedule at Kennedy, with all fitness and leisure activities under way. Your Board of Directors has been busily overseeing the daily operations of the centre. We have many new activities started or recommenced this year.

45th Anniversary: This fall we celebrated the 45th anniversary of Kennedy’s opening way back in 1974. A celebration dinner was held with comments from civic dignitaries. There were 136 attendees. As part of our celebration, the board approved printing 300 Kennedy Cookbooks and I am pleased to report that two-thirds of them have now been sold. Get yours before we run out! They are available in the Gift Shop.

Friendly Reminder: Please take personal belongings home with you. The society is not responsible for loss or damage.
Newly Updated at Kennedy: There is a new commercial-grade dishwasher in the Upper Hall for the benefit of all groups.

Volunteer Tea: In November, your board hosted the second annual Volunteers Are Gold Tea to recognize the time contributed by over 100 volunteers to assist in running the centre.
Credit/Debit Cards: We continue to ask that all members endeavour to use credit or debit cards for all payments so that we can eventually become cashless. And finally, your board wishes you and yours a happy holiday season! Rick Stonehouse, President

With the Christmas season upon us, perhaps we can help those less fortunate. On behalf of Deltassist, we are collecting canned and non-perishable goods (beans, canned fish, peanut butter, pasta, rice). You can place your donation in the Christmas box in our front lobby. Thank you for your generosity.
45th Anniversary Commemorative Cookbook The cookbooks now available for purchase in our Gift Shop. They are only $10 each and make great gifts!
Volunteers In October, 132 active volunteers completed 1,233.25 volunteer hours. Astonishing!
Why not buy more than one and make your Christmas shopping a little easier?
We recognize the value of our volunteers! This centre could not run without the time, energy and enthusiasm our volunteers bring here each day.
On November 5, we donated 51 layettes to Option’s Healthiest Baby Program. In the past four years, we have donated 128 layettes; each layette contains a large afghan or fleece blanket, a small fleece blanket, a flannel receiving blanket, a sweater with two hats, and a sleeper. Thanks to everyone who donated. Without your generosity this program would not be possible. Keep up the good work.
Watch in 2020 for the launch of our Volunteers of the Month program! Each month three volunteers will be recognized. “How will this work?” you ask. Any volunteer who has volunteered in the previous month will be entered into our computer-generated draw. Those three chosen volunteers will be highlighted as our volunteers of the month! Be sure to sign in each volunteer shift so your name won’t be missed.
Best wishes for a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2020. Lil Jones
Coffee with a Cop Tue, Dec 10 9:30-11:30am A constable from the Delta Police Department will be available in the lobby to answer your questions. Feel free to drop by, have a cup of a coffee and discuss any issues you face or thank them for their service.

Prevent Infections: Handshakes, kisses and hugs are great ways to spread infections like colds, flus and gastroenteritis. Wash your hands often and keep them away from your eyes, nose and mouth.
Take Time for Yourself: If you’re feeling tired, you risk exhaustion and increased levels of stress. Between shopping, cooking and hosting, make sure you take a moment each day to just relax and clear your mind. Take time to pamper yourself.
Skip the Shame: If you go off track during the holiday season, don’t give up. January is just ahead and health is a great New Year’s resolution.
Office Hours: Tue-Thu, 8:30am-4pm. Book an appointment: 604-787-1242 or email email@example.com
Eva’s Holiday Health Tips Keep your health habits on track during the holidays. Put the focus on friends, family and fun instead of food!
And on that relaxing note, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Adapted from Harvard Health Publishing, Harvard Medical School.
Change Your Focus: The holiday season is a wonderful time to cultivate quality connections with family and friends. Instead of seeing it as a series of parties where you can indulge in food and drink, focus on improving relationships and making memories.
Avoid Overeating: Let’s face it, food is a major theme of the holidays. Between Christmas and New Year’s Day, food excesses can lead to digestive troubles, including indigestion and gastroesophageal reflux. The best way to prevent them is to moderate your food intake.
Stay Active: Don’t neglect your physical activities during the holidays. It’s even more important to stay active during this period. Besides being good for our overall health, exercise helps you get rid of stress and forget about your worries for a while.
Limit Your Consumption of Alcohol: No doubt there are numerous occasions to raise a glass with family and friends during the holidays. However, drinking to excess, even once in a while, can cause serious damage. Moderation is the key.
