By Car: Cornwall is located along Highway 401, roughly one hour west of Montreal and one hour southeast of Ottawa. Exits 789 (Brookdale Ave.), 792 (McConnell Ave.) and 796 (Boundary Rd.) will bring you in to the city. Cornwall can also be accessed from Hwy. 417, exit 58, via Hwy 138. Cycling Cyclisme
The celebrated Waterfront Trail runs the entire length of Cornwall’s 18 km waterfront and then some. The Cornwall Civic Complex is the perfect spot to start your next cycling adventure, with free parking and numerous shops and restaurants just steps away. The scenic, trafficfree routes are great for families and groups! Head west and enjoy some great stops along the way, like Rurban Brewery, OPG Visitor Centre, Archie’s, the Lost Villages Museum and the Long Sault Parkway. The St. Lawrence River is a hotbed for divers, with a number of popular dive sites in the area including shipwrecks, remnants of the Lost Villages and Lock 21. A jewel on Cornwall’s waterfront, Lamoureux Park features the Rotary Eco-Gardens, an environmental oasis featuring a mini waterfall, native plants and a variety of wildlife. The nearby Arboretum showcases 44 different types of tree species. Nature and wildlife can also be enjoyed on the beautiful trails at Gray’s Creek Conservation Area, Summerstown Trails, Cooper Marsh and the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary. The St. Lawrence River offers world-class fishing, and Cornwall is a perfect starting point to pursue that trophy fish. Cornwall has two free boat launches - one in Lamoureux Park below the power dam and Guindon Park above it. Marina 200 and Gray’s Creek Marina are just two of the facilities in the area that provide immediate access to the St. Lawrence. Fence Depot and Canadian Tire are two convenient spots to get your fishing licences and supplies. Lamoureux Park, the Cornwall Harbour and the Cornwall Canal offer some great shoreline fishing options. Catch some big air at Big Ben Ski Centre or enjoy a skate at one of the many outdoor rinks around Cornwall. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing thrive at places like Guindon Park, Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary and Summerstown Trails, the latter of which also maintains fat biking trails. A winter visit isn’t complete without a magical skate through the forest at Countryside Adventures and a walk through Alight at Night at Upper Canada Village, eastern Ontario’s biggest outdoor light festival. Ice fishing is also a popular winter pastime in the area - Hoople Creek is a great place to start.
