ST. LAWRENCE RIVER, Ontario – The River Cleanup crew is advising River Partners that they have discovered a large number of hazardous waste containers in the St. Lawrence River. According to a release from the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences on Aug. 2, there are several dozen containers in the Cornwall waterfront area near the shore. Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Environment staff reported hundreds in the Upper St. Lawrence. Containers can be found in nearshore and channel areas. After further research, it is reported that these containers appear to be old batteries from buoys, lights, and Aids to Navigation. Some of

Golf For Kids’ Sake raises $25,237

CORNWALL, Ontario – After a sunny day of golfing on Wednesday, July 18, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cornwall and District raised $25, 237. The 24th annual event was sold out with over 140 golfers. “We are beyond excited to announce that with your help we were able to raise $25, 237 for children in our community. With a waitlist of over 120 children, funds raised will go directly towards recruiting new mentors,” said Jillian Hendry, Fundraising Coordinator in a press release.
According to Hendry, the fundraising goal was $20,000. Every hole was sponsored, providing something new for golfers throughout the day. The event featured a silent auction, live auction and 50/50 draw. Big Brothers and Big Sisters thanked their title sponsor, Dairy Queen, and media sponsor, Cornwall Seaway News in a press release. I have a grave concern with the new Government of Ontario’s plan to scrap our present Cap & Trade Program. The wanton destruction of such a good program will be extremely costly for the taxpayers of this province. Sadly, this action is being taken by people who are totally ignorant of the program. Our local MPP has said. “We will stop the flow of Ontario money going to California.” This statement is mind-boggling when there is no such flow of money going to California. Very simply Cap & Trade is an action plan to take care of greenhouse gas emissions that are impacting the environment. What is wrong with that? Ontario is in a partnership with Québec and California to ensure there exists uniformity in the programs - making sure everyone is on the same page. What is wrong with that? The new government is telling us they will be saving money but I do not know how they can do this. They are going to scrap an existing program that did cost many dollars to create and put into place - as would any new program - but have NO PROPOSAL FOR AN ALTERNATIVE. They seemingly know nothing about this complex subject. What will be the cost of scrapping the present Cap &Trade program? In monetary terms it will be
very high. For example, there will be a cost to setting up an alternative program, if one can be found. Or, there is the cost of fighting the federal government to avoid having an environmental program imposed upon the province. Next, there is the cost of facing possible claims from industry and commerce because of ‘lost revenues’ due the present program being scrapped. The really big question has to be WHY? Should a successful program be scrapped just because someone else created it? Sadly, the new politicians are striving to fit the expression “If a politician gets control of something it will be destroyed.” I am not just whistling in the wind. I have studied the environment, I am qualified to teach the subject. If we are to address the environmental concerns that are confronting the world I can think of no better a way than through a Cap & Trade program. When the program is coordinated between other jurisdictions it can only be an improvement. It is not too late for the government to change course and accept the value of what we have. Our local MPP should certainly be at the forefront of the battle to save the environment and taxpayers’ hard earned dollars. Our hydro costs are high enough without the new hierarchy adding more cost through trying to change something of which they have no knowledge. Should there be negative suggestions they should be backed up with hard evidence; there has already been too much false rhetoric clouding this important topic.

NG, SG and NS welcomed new Mayors this week, as the nomination period for municipal councils in the region ended on Friday, July 27. Jamie MacDonald of North Glengarry, Frank Prevost of South Glengarry and Jim Wert of North Stormont ran for the position of Mayor unopposed in their ridings. Each Mayor considered it an honour to run unopposed. “Well of course it’s nice to be
acclaimed and not have to run in an election,” said MacDonald. “I feel good that I’ve been acclaimed. I think they have faith in me to do the job.” MacDonald will be working with the upper tiers of governments on two current, major development projects in North Glengarry: the water project in Maxville and sewage project in Alexandria. “I have to have a council that wants to go in the same direction,” said MacDonald. “Not always agree, but work together.” Prevost feels trusted and respected by residents

He is excited to bring new changes to South Glengarry. “Depending on the councillors coming in in October, I want to bring customer service back, from the township office to residents,” said Prevost. Mayor Jim Wert didn’t anticipate his win. He said he has a lot of respect for his office and will do the best work he can for his community. “I felt we really needed to extend the natural gas from the west end to the east end (of the municipality),” said Wert. “Finch has it and Roxborough does not. It would be great if
we had equal access to that, especially where hydro prices are going.” Wert is also hoping to upgrade internet quality in his riding. “There’s a very strong council going to come out of this election, and I’m hope that we work as a team on these projects,” said Wert. Williamstown Fair offers new attractions, preserves traditions WILLIAMSTOWN, Ontario – Canada’s oldest annual fair will celebrate its 207th year this summer from Aug. 10 to 12. Once again the fair will be providing family fun and will incorporate new attractions this year. The fair is referred to as a ‘Heritage Fair with a family atmosphere’, and it incorporates a variety of programs, entertainment, competitions, rides, food and music for fairgoers of all ages. “In order to maintain this reputation, the organizing committee constantly focuses on what they can do to make the fair more enjoyable for visitors every year,” said Ron Eamer in a press release. This year the fair will incorporate 17 new inflatable rides, from alien laser tag, to a rock climbing slide, to a wipeout zone, which is similar to the obstacle course seen on the television show Wipeout. “Continuing to focus on being ‘family friendly’, the committee has booked some 17
inflatable rides for the entertainment area, which will provide both challenges and fun for family members of all ages — from toddlers to adults,” said Eamer in a press release. The fair will also hold a Teen Dance this year on Friday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. at Pine Stage. The Teen Dance was a successful incorporation from last year, when the fair celebrated Canada 150. During Canada 150 celebrations, the fair hung 10 provincial flags and three territorial flags at the Centre Stage in honour of our country. Staying true to its roots, the fair will host an array of traditional activities, including but not limited to horse and cattle shows, woodworking, petting zoos, a talent contest, Karaoke Funfest, Farmer Olympics, a Highland dance competition, sheep shearing and herding, tugof-war, the Quigley Highlanders Pipe Band and live music. Additionally, there will be concessions and vendors, an array of displays — like miniature trains and an exhibition hall and museum.
This year there will be 17 new inflatable rides at the fair.
Weekend passes for all three days are available for $20 at some local businesses in Martintown, Williamstown and Lancaster prior to Aug. 1. After Aug. 1 the weekend passes will cost $25. Daily passes will be available at the

with a family friendly atmosphere. “We find that a lot of people come home to Williamstown,” said Eamer. “People who have moved away and live away, the children’s families all come home for the fair because it’s a great place to meet your family and friends, and enjoy the weekend.” According to Eamer, there will be continuous music and entertainment on two stages throughout the fair. This includes a lineup of local bands, like Bang On The Ear, Kilts, Riffs and Spurs, and the Quigley Highlanders Pipes and Drums. “There’s plenty of food, entertainment and music of all kinds,” said Eamer. “New this year of course is our inflatable midway, with 17 attractions for toddlers to adults. Daily bracelets for unlimited use of these amusements is only $15 per day, per bracelet. That’s half the price of the regular midway, which should be of interest to parents.”
Along with new rides, there will also be new food vendors this year. On Friday night, the second annual Teen Dance, which is organized by Junior Directors on the fair board, is suspected to be a popular attraction, with live music provided by a DJ. Eamer said the fair focuses primarily on aspects of the community’s agricultural roots, but also has many attractions for attendees from the city. The Board of Directors includes over 30 participants, and the weekend of the fair sees over 200 volunteers to make the event possible. “It’s a 12-month commitment to put a fair on,” said Eamer. “It’s a commitment on the part of a lot of people. And we are very, very fortunate that the entire community and the Williamstown area is highly supportive of the event.” “We are very fortunate to have a beautiful and attractive fairgrounds set in a historical community, in the community of Williamstown,” he added. AVONMORE, Ontario – Effective as of Aug. 1, Delaney Bus Lines Ltd. ended its services. Roxborough Bus Lines officially took possession of the school bus fleet and state of the art Delaney headquarters, while 417 Bus Lines of Casselman will take ownership of the Delaney charter coach fleet and three daily commuter routes. “This has been the hardest decision of my life,” said Janet Delaney, Delaney company president, in a press release. “When the opportunity to work with two companies with a rich history of success and safety in our community presented itself, I wanted to think long and hard about the possibilities. Ultimately, I arrived at
the conclusion that our drivers and staff, our passengers, the community, and the students we transport each day will be served well by the younger ownership at these two growing companies.” Janet Delaney took ownership of the family company following her husband’s passing in 2010. Her late husband, Michael Delaney, grew his father’s company from what was once nine school busses in 1972, to several busses transporting more than 5,500 students and hundreds of commuters every day. CORNWALL, Ontario — Keppel Bharath of Cornwall will be cycling from Ottawa to Cornwall for the sixth time in honour of five friends with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The two-day event starts on Aug. 18 in Ottawa, continuing along a scenic route to the Nav Centre. “MS is a little-known disease that affects so many people in Canada and I have seen people reduced to limp bodies by it,” said Bharath in a media release. “Curing MS would mean that you can unleash the afflicted people to do other things to help themselves and others.” According to Bharath, an engineer at Pratt & Whitney Canada, his team starts training
annually when the snow melts. He is dedicated to raising awareness about MS, and helping to fund programs, services and research efforts. MS Bike is one of the most popular cycling events in Eastern Ontario, with routes ranging from 80 to 225 km. This year’s fundraising goal for MS Bike is $525, 000. Organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the event attracts more than 600 cyclists of different skill levels. Good greens found around town
CORNWALL, Ontario - It is the middle of summer and there are free pickings to be had in Cornwall. The gardens planted by Transition Cornwall+ Food Action Group along with families in the community at the Fire Station, in front of the Justice Building and along Montreal Road by the Police Station are full of healthy vegetables and herbs ready for anyone to harvest. There is everything from tomatoes, to fresh green beans, chard and kale as well as basil, thyme, dill, chives and much more. If you are not a gardener, it is not always obvious on how to pick these vegetables or indeed what to do with some of them. Tomatoes in the gardens are just turning ripe – either a bright red or deep yellow in colour. To harvest, just lightly hold each fruit and give it a light twist and it will come away from the stem. Green beans ready for picking should be firm and evenly thick and crisp but not showing the bean seeds swelling inside. Again just pinch the bean right at the end where it joins the stem and it will come away cleanly. Swiss chard might not be known to everyone. In the gardens it is either with green, red, orange or yellow stems. It is best to cut the stems just an inch or so above the ground. If you pick only a few outside leaves from each plant, new leaves will soon grow up, giving people fresh greens all summer. After washing the chard, the leaves can be chopped up and used in salads or lightly steamed or boiled and when the stems are just soft, serve mixed with a pat of butter and sprinkling of salt and pepper. Kale, known for its healthy properties can also
be used in salads or as a cooked vegetable or in soups. Again just cut off a few leaves from each plant to allow regrowth over the summer. The younger leaves are best for salads. To prepare after washing the leaves, fold leave over longwise and cut off the central stem. Beautiful huge plants in the gardens right now are summer squash. They produce both male and female flowers. The male flowers can be picked and eaten while the female ones still produce squash. You can identify the male ones as they don’t have pistils, grow on long stalks, and are slender, while the female flowers have bulbous ends. After picking the flowers and checking inside for insects, remove the pistil and wash and dry them. They can be eaten raw in salads, sautéed, or stuffed and fried. The squash vegetable can be picked by twisting off the stem, washed, peeled and prepared in numerous ways, such as cutting up to boil or fry, or the centre of larger ones can be hollowed to stuff with meat or stuffing and baked. Herbs make any meal more delicious. Basil is a wonderful plant whose leaves smell of freshness. Pinch leaves from the centre of the plant down to a grouping of two leaves or more, not leaving a bare stem. Again this encourages plants to regrow new shoots and leaves. The washed picked leaves can be chopped up and used with sliced fresh tomatoes, doused lightly with olive oil and if you wish balsamic vinegar and small chunks of mozzarella or feta cheese, salt and pepper. Or it can be used with any cooked vegetable or in salads. Thyme (at the Montreal Road police station garden), washed and chopped, can be used in a variety of ways, such as added to grilled meat or cooked vegetables for a delicious taste. Young
chive leaves, again a few cut from the plant, can be washed, cut up and used with boiled, or roasted potatoes or in a potato salad. You can use two parts of the dill which is growing in the Justice Building garden at the back. The flowers are now turning into seeds. Cut and at home hang upside down until the seeds are dry and formed. The seeds can used crushed or used whole and added when cooking vegetables or in salad dressings or pickles. The leaf tendrils of the dill plant can be washed and used in soups or stews.

CORNWALL, Ontario - The Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) says that it recognizes that wait times in its Emergency Room (ER) have increased in recent years and state that they are taking steps to address this issue. According to Jeanette Despatie, the CCH’s President and CEO, the ER sees between 120 to 190 patients every day and that nine-out-of-10 of those patients wait between six and nine hours. That wait time is measured from the time the patient sees a triage nurse until the time they leave the department.
The busiest time of day for the ER is between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. with the busiest day of the week being Monday. Volume is just one of the factors that determines the wait time in the ER at the CCH. The type of cases present in the ER, tests or consultations patients might need and number of available doctors all affect wait times. The number of available ER doctors is not something in the CCH’s full control. “The physicians are not employees of the hospital,” said Despatie in an email to Seaway News. “The group of specifically trained emergency physicians are allocated (by the province) a number of hours for a 24-hour period and they determine the coverage model based on these hours. For example, over a 24-hour period we
might have 60 hours of coverage – allowing for two-to-five physicians on duty at busy times and reduce the numbers when visits drop, for example overnight.” Despatie went onto explain that it is not always possible to predict ER demand and that increased demand at on time, might affect the number of physician hours they have available at a later time. “While all of these factors can impact the wait time on any given day this has been identified as a key performance indicator that needs to improve and many teams have come together in an effort to impact this wait for patients,” wrote Despatie. “We would like to reduce the variability as much as possible. Our wait times have increased over the past few years and we

news want to improve this.” Despatie listed the following initiatives that the CCH is working on to reduce ER wait times. Improving triage efficiencies – therefore reducing the time to triage and throughput – this includes further education, training and reviewing workflows; Improving the process for patients returning from the Diagnostic Imaging department Reviewing and improving processes to transfer admitted patients to the inpatient area – therefore, maximizing the resources within the emergency; Reviewing with the Emergency physicians how to impact their efficiencies; including the potential introduction of a physician assistant at busy times in the department.

This past week, Money Sense named Cornwall one of the top ten places to retire in Canada. Cornwall is a quality living space and is deserving of receiving recognition along side other towns like Burlington, Oakville and Ottawa. We have very affordable housing and our residential tax rate is right in line with other cities on that list at around 2.4 percent. The best way to build on this reputation is not to suddenly make it our brand. We should not become only a retirement community. Being only a retirement community will not benefit the City of Cornwall and especially not our seniors. The best way to build off of this recognition is to build an economy with plenty of jobs for everyone. In the most recent budget process, Councillor Andre Rivette reminded his colleagues time and time again that we cannot build a budget on the backs of seniors on fixed incomes. I agree with Councillor Rivette on this.
Like I said, Cornwall is a great place for seniors to come and retire, but Cornwall will have to spend more to provided adequate services for those seniors coming to live here. Those senior services should not be financed off the backs of seniors who have earned their retirement and have earned their fixed incomes. What is the solution? Innovation and economic development. Cornwall should not be known only as a retirement community. It should be known as a retirement community, a hub for innovation and a region with a growing economy. Clearly, we are already attractive to seniors, so now we need to make Cornwall attractive to families and young people. Our seniors deserve well-funded support services and programs and seeing as how they have done a lifetime of work already, those services should not be built on their tax dollars alone. Things like free Wi-Fi in our downtown cores would be a boon for business and would grow the economy. Free Wi-Fi promotes education, literacy and tourism. Speaking of tourism, I was recently out in the

Dear Editor and neighbours, The reason for my letter today is because I received Mr. Guy Lauzon’s recent campaign newsletter. It would be thoroughly appreciated by myself, as well as many others I am sure, if the type of name calling and gossipy rhetoric used to slander other parties was kept to a tasteful minimum. While I appreciate receiving these newsletters, and would like to hear what Mr. Lauzon is actually doing, I am uninterested in becoming infuriated with the lack of responsibility taken for the actions of all parties within the government. To assume that any party would not incur debt, is to assume that one is God. Debt is a
common factor in every election, for every leading party, and in some ways can be used to alleviate future debts. Consider the debt students get into so that they can potentially get a job that would pay well, so that they can ensure a future good standard of living. Contrary to popular belief, I rather enjoy paying my taxes. I like having social services available to those who need it. I like having police, paramedics, doctors and nurses who are able to live good home lives. I like to drive down my gravel road knowing that while I’d prefer a paved road other people who live on busier streets get to enjoy that instead. I do believe that incomes should inflate alongside the cost
of goods. Investing in social services like OSAP, childcare, and providing free medication to the public so they can be in a position to pay more taxes in the future is a good thing. I fear that a rhetoric of dislike towards taxes is brandished about without proper consideration of the great benefits. As for the use of a quotation by Justin Trudeau, “rising gas prices are “exactly what he wants” - rising gas prices suggests a greater demand than is available, and considering climate change and investments in bio-fuels, as well as the rise in availability of electric cars, is it not a good thing to discourage a necessarily bad thing?
Change cannot happen over night, it must be gradual, it must be planned and it must be encouraged. Rather than energy spent pointing fingers at each other, I’d like to see my municipal, provincial and federal governments come together to use their political ideologies and individual abilities such that good, progressive, and productive decisions are made in such a way that they reflect democracy. To conclude, I am very grateful, Mr. Lauzon, for the hard work you do and the personal sacrifices you make every day to lead our district. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Eden Lewis

Oil is the lifeblood of your car. It keeps hardworking engine parts running clean, smooth and cool. Most owner’s manuals suggest that you change your oil and oil filter every 12,070 kilometers. Oil change specialists suggest every 3,000 miles (4,828 kilometers) or three months. The fact is, most of us do a lot of heavy driving during the summer when an engine is more likely to overheat. So at least check your oil before you head out on that road trip with the family. To check your oil, let your car run for a few minutes, then park it on a level surface and shut off the engine. Open the hood and locate the oil dipstick. You’re looking for two things here: the level of oil and how the oil looks. If you’re low on oil, you can either add another quart or simply change the oil completely. The oil should look brownish yellow and clean on the stick. If the oil is a dark color or there’s a lot of dirt and grime in it, then you definitely need an oil change and oil filter replacement. Wait, didn’t you do a lot of these things when you got your car ready for colder weather? As a matter of fact, yes. RECYCLE THAT OIL! If you change your own oil and oil filter, don’t

Meanwhile in Cornwall, detectives were probing an overnight break-in at the Dominion grocery store at 234 Pitt St. a few days before the bank heist. As a student, who lived a few doors away near the CPR station, she worked for Florence “Ma” Lalonde after school and on weekends. “They (Florence and husband George) were like my second parents,” she said. She recalled that the small diner had two stools at the lower counter near the entrance and six stools at the higher counter. A juke box which got a lot of play was squeezed up against the wall. The place had a long list of regular customers. One was Frank Gadbois, who delivered parcels for CPR Express. He would stop in every day, sit at the same lower counter stool and order a large glass of buttermilk. It was the quintessential family business. George Lalonde sat on a stool behind the counter and helped with the cash register. Daughter Gertrude and a son Leslie helped out. “Leslie opened up early in the morning every day,” she said. “We also served Mello Roll ice cream, which some (of today’s) kids won’t know what I’m talking about.” Rita, now in her 80s, recalled the Ma Lalonde days as “the good old days.” Amen. While one man waited outside in the stolen getaway car on the afternoon of Aug. 10, 1962 his two partners in crime, brandishing revolvers, burst through the front door of the Bank of Nova Scotia branch in Martintown. “At first I thought it was a joke,” bank manager J. G. Taylor said. But the veteran banker soon found out it was anything but a joke. In those days rural banks were a favourite target. Several banks in the United Counties had been held up. The OPP even had a rural bank patrol. To show that they meant business, one of the men fired a warning shot over the head of the startled bank manager. Police figured he missed the manager’s head by about 12 inches. The pair then ordered the manager and two employees, Allan Reynolds and Armand Lapierre, along with two customers to lie face down on the floor as they emptied the cash drawers. They were the process of having the manager open the locked safe when the lookout in the car yelled, “We gotta get out of here.” Police weren’t sure what scared the lookout. The trio quickly bolted, piled into the car and made a getaway with $4,000 in small bills.

CORNWALL, Ontario – Team Sigma Point has been practicing hard in the St. Lawrence River to prepare for the upcoming Cornwall Waterfest on Aug. 11. According to Kevin O’Rourke, a nine-year Committee Member of Cornwall Waterfest, there are currently over 20 teams registered, and four of them are coming from outside of the region. He believes that the dragon boat races offer physical activity, teamwork skills and a lot of fun. “Because you’re going to boat with 20 people, paddling in sync is critical,” said O’Rourke. “Missing paddle strokes slows the team down a bit; they lose momentum and a straight line.” On the day of Waterfest, races will occur in three different divisions: community teams, competitive teams and a women’s division. O’Rourke noted that this year there is a youth team competing, with young men and women from ages 14 to 19. He will be assisting the youth team during the races. “The people who have the most difficulties is the canoe paddlers,” said O’Rourke. “(They have) long term efficient strokes, but dragon boating is about power and speed, opposed to a smooth arm stroke. CORNWALL, Ontario - The Cornwall Classics will represent the city and the province of Ontario at the Canada 55+ Hockey Championships on Aug. 20 to the 25 in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Classics won the right to go to the tournament after winning silver at the Ontario Senior Championships during the summer of 2017. “We’ve played with each other over the many years,” said Alex Herrington of the Cornwall Classics when asked how hockey changes as you get older. “We’re still a competitive group of old timers”. The Canada Senior’s tournament only happens every four years, and the Classics team had competed in the 2014 national event in Edmonton. As well, the Laframboise Group have assembled a 60+ team to compete in that category at the Canada Senior Championships. “The intent is to keep playing the game as long as you can and to stay healthy as long as you can,” said Earl McBean of the 60+ team. The 55+ and 60+ teams have been practicing every Tuesday at the Benson Centre in preparation for the national titles. The Township of South Glengarry has an opportunity for an individual seeking a Seasonal Recreation Facility Operator 2 position. Reporting to the Recreation Facility Operator 1, the Recreation Facility Operator 2 is responsible for the operation of equipment and manual labour as necessary to carry out functions of the Parks and Facilities Department, including arena operations. This is a seasonal unionized position and maintains a current hourly rate of $24.27. The ideal candidate will have the following experience and preferred qualifications: • Completion of Grade 12 and/or equivalent programs such as, basic refrigeration. • Preferred 1-2 years experience relevant to key responsibilities. • Mechanical inclination and/or experience. • Effective verbal and listening communications skills. • Possess and maintain a valid Class G Drivers’ License and clean driver’s abstract. QuAlificAtions: • Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers; • Baccalaureate or Masters degree of Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work; • 3-5 years recent SW experience preferably within a community based or out-patient setting; • Excellent short term counselling, crisis intervention and group facilitation skills with competency in the areas of depression, trauma and substance abuse; • Competency in the application and interpretation of cognitive and mental health screening tools; • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and computer knowledge required; • Excellent knowledge of community resources to foster referrals and service linkage; • Demonstrated knowledge in the principals of health promotion, the social determinants of health and client advocacy; • English proficiency is required and a proficiency in French is an asset.

Survived by his devoted wife Marilyn and beloved children Mark of Langley, B.C, Stacie Giovinazzo (George) of Guelph, ON. and Ryan Mattingly (Rebekkah Bolger) of Kitchener, ON. Loved Grandfather of Rebecca, Avery and Brooklyn Sorensen, Noah and Ava Giovinazzo and Indira Mattingly. Son of the late Ole Sorensen and survived by his mother Ethel of Prince George, B.C. Brother of Ole (Darlene) of Prince George, B.C., Linda Petrie (late Donald) of Ashburton, NZ. Predeceased in 2015 by Ralph (Maureen Kerr) of Penticton, B.C. Brother-In-Law of Myrna Earle (Bob) of Cornwall, ON. Survived by the mother of his children Lynne Field (Dave) of Langley, B.C. Educated in B.C and Outlook Saskatchewan. Glen had a career in banking in British Columbia from 1965 to 1984. In 1984 he moved his family to Ottawa, ON and joined Canada Post. In retirement Glen went to Algonquin College to be a PSW. In Glen’s younger years he enjoyed his association with the B.C. Dragoons where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and participated with various Regiments in B.C. Glen had great love for the outdoors, canoeing, camping, hiking and bike riding. In 2000 Glen and Marilyn moved to Lanark County and enjoyed country living at its best. In 2011 they moved to Ingleside, ON and took pleasure in the wonderful bike trails along the St. Lawerance. Glen was a devoted member of the Newington Wesleyan Church, serving in many capacities. He was a very gentle, caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His deep faith in his Lord sustained him over his two year battle with cancer. Thanks to Pastor Krista Shaver and Pastor Dave Naylor for their love, support and encouragement and prayers over the past two years. On May 18, 2018 Glen and Marilyn took up residence in Tillsonburg to be closer to Stacie and Ryan and their families. Thanks to Pastor Paul Robinson for his friendship to Glen, his many visits in the hospital, home and in hospice. His love and prayers are so appreciated. Friends and relatives were received by Glen’s family at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Tillsonburg on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Krista Shaver and Pastor Paul Robinson. Nickolas Bergeron, 16, of Cornwall, presented MP Guy Lauzon with a Canada Post commemorative envelope which celebrates The War Amps 100th anniversary. The envelope reflects the Association’s long history and innovative programs through photos and text. The War Amps was started in 1918 by amputee veterans returning from the First World War to help each other adapt to life with amputation. The Association’s programs have grown over the past 100 years from assisting war amputees – whom they still serve – to all amputees, including children. The MacLeod’s Fiddlers School has been helping to teach music for 25 years. Thanks to that school, the many students who have gone through it can help keep the Glengarry style of fiddling alive.
