WELCOME Now the clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and Advent is just around the corner, it starts to feel like we are on a countdown to Christmas! Or at least it does at Corney & Barrow HQ, where we have been working hard behind the scenes to pull together our Christmas brochure.

This is a personal process for us as a team, demanding considerable creative energy and a huge amount of quarrelling to decide which of our favourite wines to include and who will write the notes! However we hope you agree it is worth the effort: in my view this is our best Christmas brochure yet, brimming with delectable treats to add sparkle to your Christmas and New Year celebrations. And if ever there is a time for celebration, Christmas is it! Puligny-Montrachet Domaine François Carillon 2017 Château Septy 2014 Halves Monbazillac / France A very accessible dessert wine with impressive notes of honey, dried apricot and marmalade, exotic yet controlled on both the nose and palate. Intipalka Syrah Vinas Queirolo 2018 Ica / Peru A supple red with dark berry fruit, forest floor and savoury notes. Likely the only Peruvian Syrah in the UK market, this wine is a product of high-altitude planting in the desert climate of the Ica Valley. Inocente Carmenere Viña Laurent 2018 Maipo / Chile Damien Laurent and his Chilean wife Lorena met as oenology students in Bordeaux. After graduating, they remained in the region to manage Damien’s family domaine, all the while dreaming of planting vineyards and making wines of their own. A decade later, they moved to Chile to start their dream venture, settling in the beautiful Maipo Valley in 2008. This is Lodovico Antinori’s latest project and here we have the most approachable of the estate’s wines. Plush and seductive in texture, dark fruit with a seam of earthy mineral and mocha layers. She is also fortunate to be working with extraordinary vineyards, the highest in Barolo, surrounded by truffle (Tartufaia) forests — an epicurean utopia. Vitivinicola Nervi 2015 Gattinara / Italy Nervi is the oldest surviving winery in Gattinara, a region which until the end of the 19th century was held in far higher regard than Barolo and Barbaresco, in whose shadows it currently resides. That may all change with the arrival of Roberto Conterno who is channelling his energies into restoring the region to its rightful place. Oreg Kiraly Dulo Sweet Szamorodni Furmint Barta 2013 50cl Tokaj / Hungary Endlessly enticing with its candied citrus and apricot notes, this delicious and delicate late harvest wine is sweet yet uplifting with its succulent fruit and refreshing seam of acidity. Abandoned after WWII, ignored throughout the Communist regime and gradually reclaimed by the surrounding forest, the Old King Vineyard (Öreg Király Dulo) has been restored to former glory by Hungarian native Károly Barta. Noble Late Harvest Semillon Nelson Estate 2014 Halves Paarl / South Africa Alan Nelson had always dreamt of owning a vineyard in the Cape, but without family vineyards to inherit, he pursued a career in law. His long-held dream came true in 1987 when he bought an abandoned farm in the Paarl region and founded Nelson Estate. Today the estate is thriving under Alan’s daughter Lisha, star winemaking graduate of the prestigious Stellenbosch University.
