YEAR 12 MUSICIANS
YEAR 12 MUSICIANS
Sebastian Tonkin
Hi, I’m Seb, and I’ve played piano for 12 years, so music has been a big part of my life for a while. It’s taught me a lot of important skills and influenced my personality, but what I’ve valued most about music is the connections I’ve been able to build with both teachers and friends. I’ve been very lucky to have amazing teachers who I’m very grateful for throughout my schooling, and who have always encouraged me to take new opportunities and develop as a musician and person, as well as inspired me to potentially pursue music teaching after school.
Heidi Fopp
Hi! I’m Heidi! You’ll see me playing piano, saxophone and singing out the front tonight, but I also dabble in flute, guitar, bass and drums. I love to compose and arrange music, especially in jazz styles, and my favourite thing to do is perform! I love playing at events like Cabaret and doing acoustic duo style gigs with Seb (that amazing pianist you’ll see tonight)! I’ve loved being a part of the Cornerstone ensembles and Music Council, organising events like this. In my next chapter, I hope to teach high school music after studying jazz and composition at the Conservatorium.
Sophie McClelland
Hi! My name is Sophie and I am one of the Year 12 music students. Throughout high school I’ve been involved in many of the vocal ensembles including JIVE, Blue Note, Senior Vocal, and Somethin’ Else, and I’ve been lucky enough to sing with the talented Studio Ensemble! Music has taught me many lessons such as patience, resilience, and confidence. Singing with my friends like I will be tonight is the highlight, along with performing to the primary school kids, and working with all the talented music students, and our amazing teachers Mr Janus, Mr Day, Mr Ramirez, and Miss Zerner who have helped shape us as both musicians and individuals.
Liam Carver
I have been playing the guitar for 10 years now starting in Year 2. However, it wasn’t until Year 8 when I began to really flourish with the help of my instrumental tutor Daniel Lee. I cannot pinpoint my initial inspiration to pick up the guitar however as I began to discover genres I found inspiration in the artists Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. Over my musical journey I have learnt the art of hard work. Nothing worth doing is easy, this is especially applicable when it comes to learning a piece of music focus on the end goal, but don’t discount the journey.
Kaelin
Haimes
Kaelin Haimes is a singer songwriter. Playing a variety of genres on acoustic guitar and vocals, Kaelin offers a mix of music for everyone’s tastes. Kaelin’s love for music started at a young age and got her first guitar at 12 years old. Since then, she has performed at numerous festivals, such as the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Ceduna Oyster Fest, and Mildura Wentworth Festival. Inspired by artists such as Missy Higgins and Paul Kelly, her original music will take you on a story telling journey.
Sienna McClean
Music has always been a very important part of my life and I can’t remember a moment when I wasn’t singing. I started writing my own songs around the age of 5 after hearing my first Taylor Swift song and I haven’t stopped since. I’ve had some amazing opportunities over the last few years with being on the Voice Australia 2022 and releasing my first album with my sister being definite highlights. Even so, my very first Cabaret still remains one of my favourite performances. I want to thank all my music teachers over the years in particular my singing teacher Lisa Duffield for always believing in me. I also want to thank my parents for being my biggest support and my sister Ella for being my partner in crime.
Luka
Bolte
I always liked music because it never felt like just ‘one thing.’ I started lessons on guitar and violin. I played and wrote songs on ukulele, then guitar, then piano, and sung with my sister. I then sung in choirs at school, and in musicals, the earliest being Peter Pan at 13, then later discovering more complex musical concepts in jazz. My current musical interests are frustratingly diverse, (and always changing) including playing alto sax, film scoring, musical comedy, bebop, listening to Armenian folk, microtonal harmony, jazz drumming and writing songs for musical theatre.
Nari Duncan
I have always loved singing, my mum is a very amazing, talented piano player who has always been my biggest fan, encouraging me to keep making music. When I was younger we had a grand piano which motivated me to write songs, whenever I needed to express something deep. I’ve learnt that there are many branches of musical ‘talent’ and that you should never compare your music to someone else.
