May 20, 1965 TO: Dean W. R. Forrester FROM: Faculty Committee on the Law Library SUBJECT: Annual Report Members of the Committee for 1964-65 were Professors Kurt L, Hanslowe, Oscar J„ Miller, Lewis W*. Morse, Walter E, Oberer, and Harry Go Henn (Chairman). The Committee met several times during the academic year to consider library affairs and policy matters. The library staff provided the Committee with relevant information in the form of working papers, and the Committee established categories of priority. Acquisitions, location of the collections, space problems, classification, patron services and loan policies, and library personnel and procedures are typical examples of items considered. The Committee approved proposals for an expanded acquisitions policy. Projected through June 30, 1965, the library will have expended approximately $101 ,000.00 for books and binding during fiscal 1964-65. Accessioned items added to the collection will approximate 13,000 volumes, raising the total number of volumes held to 185,000 as of July 1, 1965. Significant acquisitions included complete regional reporter digests, the remaining 36 state digests, and the remaining available state encyclo pedias, making the library's holdings complete. The library also expanded its activities in the areas of foreign, comparative, and international law. About 50 additional complete sets of periodicals indexed in the Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals have been acquired or ordered, making a total of 145 held by the library. Current statutory compilations from newly independent African nations have been purchased on a selective basis. Multiple copies of textbooks were acquired to meet increased student demands and needs. Book selection policy was broadened to in clude items peripherally related to law.
