April was a doozy, but all that rain officially ushered us into the beautiful temperatures and regrowth that come with Spring in New England. Spring is also when we begin our Chapter year and truly dig into the work of fulfilling our mission as New England’s premier corporate real estate organization. In the spirit of Spring renewal, the Board of Directors held a full-day retreat in early May during which we reexamined our overall objectives as a Chapter as well as the progress of our 2018-2020 initiatives. During this retreat, we particularly focused on two key areas: 1. How we most efficiently structure and govern our Chapter, and 2. Our sponsorship value proposition. Our governance discussions introduced a number of ideas we’re contemplating as a Board to help us more consistently not only manage our organization day in and day out, but also plan ahead for the future. Both as a group and in breakout sessions, we considered everything from setting term limits for Directors and Committee Chairs, to better defining volunteer roles, to establishing a “leadership development” committee focused on supporting current Chapter and committee leaders and encouraging and fostering future leaders. We are still considering these ideas and more, and we will continue sharing where we are headed. Sponsors are, of course, critical to our organization, so we need to continue making sure we are delivering a valuable experience for sponsors at all levels. With that in mind, we also used the retreat to tackle what our sponsorship value proposition is now and what enhancements we can make. Again, we discussed a host of ideas ranging from exclusive end-user sponsor events and benefits to added educational, networking, and exposure opportunities for Founders Circle sponsors. As we highlighted in our Annual Report, we also continue to make progress on our 2018–2020 initiatives all while we deliver some of our industry’s most interesting and informative events and programs. The discussions and ideas coming out of this Board retreat energized and inspired me even further as I look forward to where we’re headed this year. YL Committee: Let’s Get Social! The Young Leader Committee has had a busy first half of 2019. Coming off a successful holiday party and gift drive for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston in December, the group hit the ground running with a sold-out ski trip to Waterville Valley in February, an incredibly fun Masters-themed networking event at the Foundation Room at 225 Franklin in April, and an intimate meetand-greet with Mike Knipper at Citizens Bank in May. As we head into Summer, the Chapter’s Young Leaders have many exciting projects on the boards, including the long-standing Roof-Top Social, a Wine Tasting, and a new Networking Cooking Class. Young Leaders Professional Development Program: It’s All About Learning The Young Leaders Professional Development Program is off to a strong start this Spring! The group kicked off the year at Iron Mountain learning about their KOLBE assessments and understanding how their instinctual behaviors play a role in the success of their careers. The young leaders participated in fun team-building exercises and came away with insight on how best to maximize their skill sets while also learning how to incorporate those of their fellow colleagues.

The team also made visits to McCarter & English, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and MilliporeSigma to hear the ins and outs of the corporate real estate world from leasing, to conducting international business, to envisioning a brandnew campus project.

With Summer rounding the corner, the YLPDP group has selected sustainability as their capstone project topic and will spend the next three months creating a program for CoreNet members to hear about the benefits of sustainability to a business's bottom line. Stay tuned for more!

In September, the New England Chapter of CoreNet will offer its fourth Leadership 2.0 development program to help CRE professionals advance in their careers as they strive to fully support, improve, and enhance their company’s business goals and objectives. This six-month program guides participants through a personal journey of professional development taught by a variety of Boston CRE industry thought leaders. The program’s goal is to provide advanced leadership skills, industry insights, networking opportunities, and tools to promote personal career growth. Course topics include leadership, presentation, negotiating, and management skills culminating in a group presentation on a case study. Leadership 2.0 is open to Chapter members only and requires a one-year separation from the Young Leaders Professional Development Program. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of real estate experience and a desire to raise their personal and professional profile. The application forms will be issued by June 10th and will be due by June 28th, 5:00 pm. Class size is limited to 12–16 professionals. What attracted you to join the CRE industry? I have lived in the Boston area my whole life, so having the chance to impact the way it is built was very exciting to me. This industry allows you to get an insiderâ€™s look at what makes companies successful from a real estate perspective. The networking opportunities are like nothing I have seen before. Associations like CoreNet make it an easy transition to enter the CRE industry and meet decision makers you may not have had the chance to meet otherwise. What are you hoping to get out of your CoreNet membership? I am hoping to learn as much as possible and meet some great people. I am always trying to stay on top of trends and the latest CRE news, and CoreNet offers excellent insight into the industry. What motivates you? Helping people has always been a passion of mine, so whether I can help through the knowledge I have, or with introductions I can make, I am always looking to impact peopleâ€™s lives. I also love to be challenged and continuously push myself to go outside of my comfort zone to learn new things. Favorite place to visit in New England? Lake Winnipesaukee. My family had a house up there for years and every time I go, it brings me back to happy childhood memories.

Annual Meeting Recap On March 28, New England Chapter members gathered at the Seaport World Trade Center for the Annual Meeting. In addition to presentations by Chapter President Suzanne Cooper of CIEE and Executive Director Trish Fields, the audience was also treated to the premiere of a comprehensive promotional video highlighting all that the Chapter has accomplished, as well as promoting our core mission to be the top choice for Corporate Real Estate professionals and service providers to Connect, Learn, Grow, and Belong. Special thanks to Jackie Falla of Elaine Construction for all of her hard work and creativity putting the video together. Also at the Annual Meeting, the third class of the Chapter’s Leadership 2.0 program graduated. Congratulations to the twelve members who committed to their personal and professional growth, as well as kudos to the organizing committee made up of Erica Chapman (PepsiCo), Chuck Fuller, Cynthia Keliher (McCarter & English), Maureen Rystrom (J. Calnan & Associates), and Laura Walsh (Avid). Following the Meeting, members were able to relax and connect during a reception, taking in the city skyline and noshing on great fare.
