SUMMER 2021

Connect with the

CoreNet NE Summer Sip Newsletter A Message From The President Summer is winding down, and we are hard at work to plan in-person fall events and return to the office. The Delta Variant is forcing the Chapter to make choices about in-person events and we would love to get your feedback on both your personal comfort level with attending in-person events, as well as what policies or mandates your companies may have put into place on returning to the office, travel and attending in-person events. We are working directly with CoreNet Global to align our policies and of course, we are abiding by all state/CDC protocols. If you haven’t already, please take the time to answer this brief survey no later than Friday, August 27 to help us plan for the remainder of the calendar year. To the new members, we welcome you. We aim to bring all CoreNet friends and family together again with the same high-level content, in-person networking and collaboration that we greatly miss. First, please save the date for our Charitable Golf Tournament benefitting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston on October 6 at Pinehills Golf Club and the 2021 Awards of Excellence Gala at The Westin Boston Seaport District on October 28. Stay tuned for registration and sponsorship opportunity announcements! CoreNet Global will host the 2021 CoreNet Global Summit, North America, in Seattle, from November 7 through November 9. Annually, hundreds of corporate real estate professionals attend the event to improve their knowledge and expand their network. Brilliant speakers leading dozens of educational sessions and plenty of networking opportunities fill the event calendar. I hope you all can attend! Please visit our chapter website for more information about these events and to sign up. Without the support of our dedicated sponsors and members, these events are not possible. Thank you for your contributions. I am proud to be a part of this Chapter that has achieved the highest level of membership renewal globally and second highest for membership engagement for the Mega/Large Chapter category. We are now offering a 30day free trial membership, so if you have any industry friends interested in learning about what makes our chapter great, send them here to sign up today. In the meantime, check our weekly Monday newsletter. Until we see each other soon, enjoy the rest of your summer. Be safe and stay well.

THE CORENET NEW ENGLAND AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE GALA IS BACK!

The Awards Committee is excited to bring a live, in-person celebration back to our CoreNet community. If you missed it, we recently announced our 2020 and 2021 winners. We’ll be celebrating their success together – in person – on Thursday, October 28 at the Westin Boston Seaport District. What can you expect at this year’s event? •A celebration of the best of New England’s corporate real estate community over the last TWO years - - we are honoring winning projects from both 2020 and 2021! •In-person networking, cocktail hour, and dinner. •Honoring the 2021 Young Leader Development Program graduates. •A return to the camaraderie and festivity you’ve come to expect from one of CoreNet New England’s premier events! Planning an event of this magnitude during a pandemic has been quite a challenge, and the committee thanks our entire Chapter for your patience and understanding. We can’t wait to return to our in-person format. Watch our Monday morning newsletters and social media feeds for more on sponsorship opportunities, table sales, and details on each of our winners. See you October 28!

CORENET EASTERN REGIONAL

SYMPOSIUM

REFRAME THE FUTURE:

Emerging Trends for Cities, Workplaces, and People

The theme of this year’s virtual CoreNet Eastern Regional Symposium (ERS) held on Monday, May 17, was “Reframe the Future: Emerging Trends for Cities, Workplaces and People.” Attendees were able to hear from key decision-makers in each of these three sectors. This year’s Keynote speaker was John Fry, President of Drexel University. Over 300 attendees and 40 sponsor companies were present for each of the three general sessions on Reframing the City, Corporate and Individual Level. The event also kicked off with a Young Leaders Forum and concluded with facilitated networking breakouts. We look forward to returning in-person in Philadelphia, PA in June 2022!

CREST Internship Program By Jackie Falla, Director of Client Services, Elaine Construction More than an acronym, more than an open door, or an outstretched hand, or the offer of financial sponsorship, the Commercial Real Estate Success Training Program (CREST) is a commitment to attracting women and underrepresented students of color. It’s easy for me to answer the “Why”of it — a little more difficult to answer the “How.” But having had the opportunity to mentor a rising senior from Brandeis University, Alex Losada, who is an intern with Northland Development this summer, I can answer without hesitation “yes” to the question “Would you do it again?” This 10-week, paid internship program provides valuable work and life lessons to students. Imbedded into the program is a 1-week soft skills training cohort, coached by organizational development professionals, in the areas of writing, presenting, and public speaking. Katherine Sanford, Real Estate Delivery Manager-Occupancy Logistics, at Liberty Mutual, was excited to host Emma Hontz, a student studying Management at Bentley. “I recall numerous challenges navigating my own path in the field of Architecture and Corporate Real Estate. Among them were those associated with being a woman in a male-dominated industry, and even navigating how to ‘correctly’ climb the literal ladder, on a construction site, in my skirt suit and heels! We value diversity, equity and inclusion at Liberty Mutual, making it a focus in our work, and by continuing our participation in programs like CREST. We hope to create a smoother path for Emma and other women considering a career in our field.” While this year’s program is preparing to wrap up, we’d love for you and your company to consider sponsoring a student in 2022. Please reach out to: Sandra King at sking@crestinternship.com.

YOUNG LEADERS

The Young Leaders Committee has been working hard over the last serveral months to keep our members and peers connected virtually through fun and exciting events. We focused on connecting with peers around the country, doing an event in collaboration with the NorCal Chapter, while also keeping true to our mission of fostering mentor and mentee connections, hosting a virtual trivia night. Young leaders and senior leaders in our industry teamed up for trivia questions and many laughs! Young Leaders also partnered with the Career Strategies and Development committee to host a session on Self Advocacy in the Workplace. We are looking forward to hosting more amazing ACCESS lunches, such as the one we had in May with Jeanne Nutt from Gensler. Stay tuned for more exciting events to come this year from your Young Leaders Committee!

Leadership 2.0 Application deadline has been extended to Friday, August 27! The New England Chapter of CoreNet Global is committed to advancing the work of corporate real estate professionals as they strive to support, improve, and enhance their company’s business goals and objectives. Many CRE professionals, including corporate end-users and service providers, seek to improve their skills and competencies by attending education events, workshops, programs, symposiums, and summits. To answer that call, our Chapter offers Leadership 2.0. The program is focused on professional development to better position CRE professionals to advance their careers.

What is Leadership 2.0? The Leadership 2.0 Program provides CoreNet Chapter members with advanced leadership skills, insights, and tools to lead their respective organizations into the future of work and push their own careers to the next level. The program exposes participants to a range of thought-provoking discussions and learning opportunities through a series of courses. The Leadership 2.0 Program provides intimate learning and networking opportunities with established corporate real estate executives and best-in-class executive coaches.

Who Should Apply? Leadership 2.0 will be limited to 12 to 16 participants who will be selected through an application process. At the end of the program the participant will “graduate” and will receive a Certificate of Completion. The cohort will also be recognized at the Annual Meeting typically held in March. This is unique opportunity to learn from top leaders in a small group setting. We can’t wait to see what you can achieve! Download the application and apply today!

Leadership 2.0 Testimonials

Cerise Marcela | Senior Vice President, CBRE “CoreNet Leadership 2.0 has helped me grow my leadership skills from executive presence to the hidden ingredients of effective leadership. I have gained not only skill sets but also treasured friendship with others in the program.”

Christine Weiner | Vice President of Business Development, Officeworks “Being a part of the first Leadership 2.0 class was amazing. All the classes called us to do our personal best and bring out the best in others. We shared personal stories, insecurities, gave constructive feedback, worked together as a team and more importantly made lifelong friendships.”

Bill Callahan | Director of Real Estate Facilities, Oracle “Leadership 2.0 enhanced my skill set, enlightened my perspective and enlivened my CRE network. It was hard, rewarding, and fun. I’m recommending it to my friends, colleagues and peers who are looking to advance their executive presence.”
