PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

W

e’re well into the fall season and recently marked the 20th Anniversary of our Charitable Golf Tournament to benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. We got lucky with a beautiful, New England autumn day and we reveled in the chance to finally see our friends and colleagues in-person and outdoors at Pinehills Golf Club after a long hiatus, all for a great cause. Thank you to the amazing sponsors and partners, as well as the dedicated Golf Committee, who helped to make the Outing a success.

2. All attendees must prove that they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by providing a copy of their vaccine card in advance of the event to the chapter’s Executive Director.

3. All attendees must sign a waiver of liability, which waiver will be presented for signature at event check-in.

4. All attendees must wear masks throughout the event unless they are actively eating or drinking.

Despite this continued challenging period, we continue to thrive, and have one of the highest engagement rates of any Large/Mega Chapter. CoreNet Global Membership Renewal has kicked off with CoreNet Global offering a 5% discount to anyone that renews by December 21, 2021 using code REN522. The new loyalty program will also be in effect and will provide a 10% discount to any member who has been with us continuously for 5 years or more. oreNet Global hosted their Global Summit at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA from November 7-9. There were over 1,200 people in attendance and CoreNet New England was represented by more than 25 Chapter members/ supporters including three Wentworth students who were introduced to CoreNet Global through the University Relations program.

The theme of the CoreNet Global Summit this year was 'Be the Bridge.'

Bridges join and connect us. During the past year, leaders have increasingly stepped up to serve as an invaluable bridge to develop people-centric workplace strategies focusing on diverse talent, workforce flexibility, health, well-being, and the human experience.

There was a great program on “having better conversations” where they discussed what you need to do to improve the quality of interactions with others, and how to have difficult conversations.

What new idea/technology/best practice will you implement at your company?

I met with Space Matrix and Saltmine to discuss their technologies for space planning. Space Matrix is a design-build firm based in Singapore serving the APAC market. They have some innovative approaches that we have started to use for a project in Singapore and may apply to other future construction projects in the region.

Flexibility has been key as we navigate through COVID, and one shoe doesn’t fit all. You must be innovative and ready for continual change as you consider various options for your space needs.

What was your favorite session and why?

Howard Behar, the former president of Starbucks.

He was extremely down-to-earth and easy to relate to. He gave some great leadership skill pointers on how we can be better leaders, better colleagues, and better employees for the company. Under his leadership, Starbucks grew from 28 stores to over 15,000. He established a culture of servant leadership which he explained underpinned their strategic growth plans. To help accomplish goals he has his 6 P’s. Purpose, passion, persistence, patience, performance and people. The person who sweeps the floor should choose the broom. Ask me how this relates to the Frappuccino’s success.

My time at Northstar this past summer as a CREST intern was an invaluable experience that not only gave me hands on experience and insight into what it means to be a real estate project manager, but also allowed me to develop professional relationships that have helped me launch my career in real estate.

NORTH STAR PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The CREST program was a great opportunity for Northstar to connect with under represented groups within the real estate industry. Through CREST, Northstar was matched with Brooke Dean, a Finance major seeking experience as a woman in real estate. During her internship this summer, Brooke had the opportunity to work with several Northstar staff on one of our largest active construction projects, learning about our role as Owner’s Project Managers and details of an office-lab buildout. The project team thoroughly enjoyed working with Brooke as she provided meaningful contributions to key initiatives. We hope to participate in the CREST program again.

Associate Project Manager Real Estate Delivery, Liberty Mutual Insurance

Liberty Mutual was delighted to continue participation in the CREST program this year. To improve upon Liberty’s intern experience, Associate Project Manager Russell Chin was appointed as a formal mentor to Bentley student Emma Hontz. She was a great addition to their intern program and continued Russell’s support of EID (he is an active CoreNet EID committee member). “It was great being a mentor and assisting Emma with her career path and interest in CRE,” said Russell. He also served as a mentor to another CREST intern, Claire Xie from Bentley, who spent her Summer at AEW. Liberty Mutual is looking forward to continuing its support of this important program.

MOM’S INFAMOUS TIN CAN MOLD CRANBERRY SAUCE Ingredients: (1) 14 oz. can of Jellied Cranberry Sauce, cheapest available (NOT whole berry) Steps: 1. Using a can opener, remove both ends of the can.

2. Shake out Jellied Cranberry Sauce on plain dish (if stuck, use a butter knife to loosen).

3. Lay on edge to highlight detailed rings made by tin can.

4. Serve ungarnished, because it’s a thing of beauty all by itself!

CHEESY POTATOES Ingredients 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted 1 cup sour cream 3/4 cup butter, melted 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 package (32 ounces) frozen cubed hash brown potatoes 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 2 cups corn flakes Instructions Pour semi-thawed hash browns into a large mixing bowl

Add cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and ¼ cup melted butter to bowl and mix

THE NEXT-DAY THANKSGIVING SANDWICH To assemble: 1. Add a light coat of mayo to one slice of sandwich bread. On the other, spread leftover mashed potatoes.

Add salt and pepper to each.

2. On the mashed potato side, slab on some cranberry sauce. (the mashed potatoes make sure the cranberry doesn't make your bread all soggy) 3. From there, layer on whatever other leftovers you want.

Add salt, pepper, and cheese and continue to mix until hash browns are thoroughly coated

Spread mixture into casserole dish and cover with tinfoil Bake at 350 degrees for 45-1 hour until cheese is bubbling and the hash browns pass the fork test While hash browns are baking, add 2 cups of corn flakes to large plastic baggie and crush. Add ½ cup of melted butter to bag and shake contents until coated.

Once the hash browns are cooked, remove casserole dish from oven and remove tin foil. Spread buttery cornflakes across the top of the cheesy hash browns.

I add turkey slices, some stuffing, and some green bean Place casserole dish back in oven (uncovered) and casserole. Get creative - you really can't go wrong. use broiler to brown cornflakes.

4. Give the sandwich a little smush to make sure all the layers really get comfy together.

(Day 2 Hint: Tastes great with Frank’s Red Hot Original)
