Following the mornings festivities, the lanes behind the Pioneer Shire Building on Wood Street will host The Lanes Battle of the Bands, which is supported by the Airlie Beach Music Festival.

Listening to Ball Park Music you can’t help but feel sunshine and rainbows want to burst through your skin in rays of pure joy. There’s something about the Indie Pop / Rock beat that makes you want to bounce.

After 12 months sitting naked in front of a pedestal fan, enduring the overwhelming heat of their 70s fibro shack in Brisbane, the party of five produced arguably its best album to date, Puddinghead. Their third album was recorded to the sweet backdrop of leaky taps, magpies and main roads but, through the sweat and tears, the work to record the album themselves paid off.

Mixed in the studio by Grammy-nominated mixing engineer, Tony Hoffer; the eclectic, vibrant nature of the band’s new material was enhanced for all to hear.

Puddinghead is a Shakespearean insult offered to someone who manages to f$&k up even the most simplest of tasks.

San Cisco The highly anticipated sophomore album from Indie band, San Cisco, is Gracetown, fresh to hit the music stores. The band have been collaborating in the studio with longtime producer Steve Schram to record the hotly anticipated album, confidently moving forward into a sound distinctly their own.

Hailing from Fremantle, the band experienced a whirlwind debut which took off soon after high school graduation. Jodi, Scarlett, Nick and Josh picked up six ARIA nominations, Hottest 100 top 10’s and a sold-out North American tour following world tours. The pals from Freemantle have been playing tunes together since 2009, evident in the relaxed way the members interact with each other.

Their aptly named music video “Awkward” as well as their cover of Daft Punk’s global hit “Get Lucky” both have millions of views on YouTube as the band gained mass publicity. ‘Awkward’ was the singing debut of drummer Scarlett Stevens, written in the studio in an afternoon.

A taste of their new album has already been released, with the hand-clapping, catchy, disco-inspired single, “Run.” This was followed by the release of “Too Much Time Together” in time for the band’s national tour, kicking off April 23 in Freemantle.

San Cisco supported Architecture in Helsinki, as well as The Grates, Jebediah and Kimbra, and are amped to be heading to Townsville for Groovin the Moo.

WEATHER The Townsville region enjoys summer-like warmth year-round, with an average maximum daily temperature of 31 degrees Celsius in the summer and 25 degrees Celsius in the winter. Being a tropical city, it experiences wet and dry months. The most rainfall occurs between December and March, however, even during the wet season the majority of days are still filled with periods of hot sunshine. Cyclones frequently form in the Coral Sea during the wet season and can cause severe damage to parts of the Queensland Coast, however, these are well broadcast on major television and radio stations giving ample warning.

It’s easy to see the distinctive red monolith, known as Castle Hill from almost any point in Townsville. For the fit, the walk to the top is rewarding, however, you can drive to the top. The panoramic views are remarkable. Visit the historic WWII bunker, used by American soldiers as a defensive vantage point.

Swim at Little Crystal Creek, Paluma Nestled in verdant rainforest, the quaint village of Paluma is the perfect location to escape into a world from yesteryear. Dine at a cute café and shop for local art and produce. Drive to Little Crystal Creek for a refreshing swim, where a handmade stone bridge from the 1930s creates a fairytale backdrop.

Incredible Ingham 110km north of Townsville you can discover the friendly, rural town of Ingham. With its pioneering sugar background, including a large Italian population, it is brimming with fascinating natural and historical points of interest. Enjoy the drive past lush rainforest, fertile farmlands and sparkling Coral Sea vistas.

Enjoy the sunny shore of Balgal Beach, approximately 45km northwest of Townsville.

This beach is a local favourite due to its relaxed nature and seemingly untouched beach. Stinger nets are provided at this beach during the summer months making it an ideal location to soak up some of Queensland’s famous sun.

The nearby creek mouth offers excellent fishing opportunities.

Detour into the Paluma Range National Park to experience parts of the rainforest less travelled. The drive to the top of the range is spectacular where you can take a refreshing swim at the site of a quaint old stone bridge at Crystal Creek. Stop for a bite to eat in a country café in Paluma and, if time permits, explore Birthday Creek Falls.

Stop at the Frosty Mango to delight your taste buds

with a range of refreshing homemade ice creams and sorbet. The range of sweet and savoury treats on offer will delight both young and old. Wander the pretty grounds and view a range of tropical fruit trees.

The Jourama Falls are well worth a look. Set in hinterland rainforest the area is home to an abundance of beautiful birds and butterflies. Birds, turtles and goannas are attracted to the rainforestfringed creek. The camping area is less than 5km from the Bruce Highway, where a refreshing natural pool and swimming platform is available for a cooling dip. Waterview Creek tumbles down many picturesque cascades and rapids. The further you walk along the track, the more you see.

Upon arrival in Ingham, head to the Tyto Wetlands, well signposted from the Bruce Highway. The unique environment spans 90ha and is home to more than 230 species of birdlife.

4km of boardwalks allow visitors to experience the serene environment without disturbing the native inhabitants. This area is also home to the Ingham Information Centre for the opportunity to chat to local experts about the area.

Enjoy a stroll along the Hinchinbrook Heritage Walk

to discover an array of historical points of interest and then quench your thirst with a cold beer – if the Hotel hasn’t run dry that is! Lee’s Hotel is the original ‘pub with no beer’, made famous by the legendary Slim Dusty song. The song was based on a poem by Dan Sheehan, written in 1944, after coming to the pub for a beer only to discover it had been drunk dry by a group of visiting American servicemen the day before.

Continue your Ingham experience with a visit to the Tyto Regional Art Gallery to view a range of art by talented locals. The gallery encourages cultural diversity and is a platform for locals and visitors to engage with the arts.

If you still have a few hours left in the afternoon, the drive to Wallaman Falls is an experience worth the journey. Wallaman Falls is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, home to some of the oldest rainforests on Earth, including many endangered species of flora and fauna, and is also the highest, permanent, single-drop waterfall in Australia.

If you would rather spend your remaining time at the beach, there are two beautiful beaches within 20km of Ingham. Forrest Beach and Taylors Beach both have accommodation options, in case you decide to turn your day trip into an overnight expedition.

BEAUTIFUL BOWEN Beautiful beaches, the Big Mango and the Bowen Jetty, Bowen is a deliciously desirable location to discover.

famous for growing large numbers of juicy, golden mangoes. Keep an eye out for roadside stalls where you can buy them by the bucket full.

Best of all, the drive from Proserpine to Bowen only takes 45 minutes. However, to discover a few hidden gems along the way, we recommend taking two hours on the way there, and an hour for your return journey.

Head to Santa Barbara Parade to visit Bowen’s famous jetty. In 2007, Bowen was used to portray 1930s Darwin in Baz Luhrmann’s film, Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. The Jetty was heavily featured in the movie.

As you drive from Proserpine, head north on the Bruce Highway and your first location arrives within minutes of leaving the town.

Mullers Lagoon is 23.57 hectares of picturesque parkland and botanical gardens in the centre of town.

The Lagoon is a hot spot for birdwatchers with 176 species of bird life inhabiting the area.

As North Queensland’s oldest town, Bowen is brimming with history, especially at the Bowen Historical Museum, on Gordon Street. Discover the early geological surrounds of the district, followed by early indigenous inhabitance to the early European settlers. The Gothenburg is one of the most famous shipwrecks on the Queensland Coast with the loss of more than 100 lives. There are relics from the wreck on display in the museum.

The Whitsunday Gold Coffee Plantation is home to more than 140,000 Arabica coffee trees, which gives Whitsunday Gold Coffee its uniquely smooth and decadent taste. Enjoy the beautiful gardens, learn about different coffee roasts, have a chat to the resident cockatoo and then enjoy a freshly extracted coffee. Coffee, gifts and its famous chocolate-coated coffee beans are available for sale.

Soak up the sun at Horseshoe Bay, a picturesque and serene beach located between two prominent granite headlands. Many marine species can be regularly seen in the clear water making it an ideal location for snorkelling.

Rose Bay is a gorgeous small bay with clear vistas across Whitsunday waters.

A few kilometres up the road, keep an eye out for the historical sign on Gunyarra Road. This leads to the site of an important WW2 Australian Chemical Warfare Research Station. By early 1945 the Gunyarra Experimental Station formed a large complex of over 50 buildings and today only one wartime building remains on its original site.

To see Bowen from above, journey up Flagstaff Hill and enjoy a cool smoothie or bite to eat at the panoramic and aptly named, Three Sixty café. It’s often referred to as one of the best ocean view locations in Queensland with Whitsunday Island vistas.

To keep the little ones entertained, the free waterpark is located to the north of “datum rock” adjacent to the Herbert St intersection, Santa Barbara Parade, Bowen. Datum rock, located in Santa Barbara Park, marks the spot from where the layout of the township of Bowen radiated. A concrete marker in Santa Barbara Park marks the site of the first pylon of Bowen’s jetty, built in 1865.

The Bowen Aerodrome is home to a Catalina museum, commemorating the involvement Bowen had as a base for Catalina flying boats during World War II. The museum contains five dioramas all built on 1/72 scale.

Even a gentle meander through the streets will unearth interesting locations. Known as the mural capital of Australia, Bowen has 19 intricately created mural sites, all within walking distance of the CBD. Enjoy discovering more in beautiful Bowen.

Mackay’s Northern Beaches are only 20 minutes away from the city centre, with an abundance of sandy shorelines for you to make your own.

Cape Hillsborough is approximately 50km from Mackay and takes 50 minutes to drive.

The drive from Mackay to Finch Hatton is 63km and takes approximately 50 minutes, while it takes an additional 20 minutes to get from Finch Hatton to Eungella, the heart of Eungella National Park.

Black’s Beach is Mackay’s longest continuous beach, stretching 6km, making it perfect for a long seaside walk.

Eimeo beach is a popular swimming beach, in a small sheltered bay with soft white sand. Drive under the canopy of mango trees at Mango Avenue, a heritagelisted attraction forming a shaded canopy above the streetscape, before arriving at the beach.

Bucasia beach is a stunning stretch of sand, an expansive and picturesque beach. Enjoy a coffee at the café across the road.

Shoal Point Beach enjoys an ever-changing vista, a beautiful blue beach at high tide, which transforms into sand as far as the eye can see during low tide.

Take a stroll to the popular ‘dead tree’ along the beach and watch a beautiful sunset.

As you head toward Cape Hillsborough from Mackay, stop into the interesting rustic tavern at The Leap.

View the intriguing monument of an aboriginal woman and find out how the area earned its name. Then, view a range of beautiful gemstones.

Enjoy high tea or a coffee amongst tropical gardens on Cape Hillsborough Road, in the old Marian Train Station, which was relocated and transformed into a gorgeous tea house.

Once at Cape Hillsborough, check the tide, as at low tide you can walk across the causeway to Wedge Island, a serene island with a beautiful little beach and popular snorkeling locations. Keep an eye on the incoming tide or choose to kayak to and from the island at your leisure. Otherwise, walk the Diversity Boardwalk and search for aboriginal middens and discover a beautiful array of flora and fauna.

Enjoy a coffee amongst the canefields in Pinnacle, before arriving at Finch Hatton Gorge.

Walk the well-formed track to the Araulen Cascades, and enjoy a refreshing swim in one of the many clear rock pools found in the rainforest. Continue through the rainforest to the lookout above Wheel of Fire Waterfall. This walk does include a number of stairs, but the view is well worth the effort.

Zipline through the rainforest canopy for an adrenalin rush which brings you closer to the sights and smells of Finch Hatton Gorge or, for a very different experience, scuba dive the rainforest waters for the chance to swim with a platypus, turtles and other marine rainforest species.

The most recent arrival and the largest of Billabong Sanctuary’s crocodiles is “Bully”.

The Department of Environment and Heritage have a policy of removing larger Estuarine crocodiles from the waterways when they are considered dangerous to humans.

Bully had been observed around the boat ramp at Mona Landing on the Herbert River at Halifax, near Ingham.

While many of the locals knew of Bully’s presence, he was becoming less afraid of people and due to the proximity to the boat ramp, was trapped. Bully was identified by the Wildlife Management Unit of DEH as the same crocodile spotted in the Murray River south of Tully in 1988. Bully was measured at the time as 2.7m in length.

Billabong Sanctuary, through its long history as an educational institution which benefits crocodiles through its message of conservation, was successful in its expression of interest in securing Bully for display. Bully is regarded as an iconic crocodile due to his length of 4.5m and weight estimated to be more than 500kg.

Bully arrived at Billabong Sanctuary on the 6th September, 2013 and due to his weight, his crate had to be transferred into his enclosure by crane. Bully did not eat any food offered to him for the first six months, but now has settled into a regular feeding pattern and is featured at the daily crocodile feeding shows on rotation with the Sanctuary’s other large crocodiles.

Billabong Sanctuary has 2 daily crocodile feeding shows at 12:45pm and 3pm where visitors learn all about these amazing reptiles and how to stay safe in their environment.

Now that Bully is fully accustomed to his new enclosure, a female crocodile will be introduced at some stage down the track.

Whitsunday Segway Tours what was the best part of the tour?

The highlight of this tour was feeling a complete immersion in nature and you get to experience the rainforest on a machine! We had an encounter with a rare type of Paradise Kingfisher. They aren’t usually spotted this far south and feature a long white tail. It was really special. He followed us the entire journey into Impulse Creek, keeping an eye on us as we cruised along the track... At one stage he even swooped a goanna to remind us whose boss. Ulysses butterflies fluttering by and magnificent strangler figs are featured on the winding forest track.

We did the Rainforest Discovery Tour which is a half day tour into the Conway National Park. Located a quick 20 minute bus transfer from central Airlie Beach you wind through the mountains of Brandy Creek and Forestry Road and arrive at the start of the Whitsunday Great Walks. You explore an old logging trail that is maintained by National Parks year round to provide a stable track for your segway to cruise along.

also provides an afternoon tour along the beautiful Bicentennial Walkway, a coastline boardwalk wrapping the ocean from Airlie Beach to Cannonvale.

This tour includes ocean front tapas at Barcelona and it’s on my list to do next!

what did your tour include?

The tour included courtesy pick up/drop off from our accommodation in Airlie Beach, a half day tour in the National Park, freshly made morning tea packed neatly into the front of your segway (Because we really love good food - we’ll add to this that the chocolate brownies and muffins are super yum and made fresh by a local wedding cake company!). The tour guide we had on the day was Daniel and he was filled with knowledge on the history of the logging trail and local flora and fauna. The tour also included a safety helmet and rider training... One little tip, when the guide take turns to individually train everyone, don’t wait until last... The sooner you put your hand up for the training the more time you have for fun and test driving these cool little machines prior to starting your adventure.

The tour was heaps of fun. We were initially apprehensive and wondered if we’d be able to control the segway. The tour guide makes it look so easy... and it is. These little machines motor along at a safe speed well above walking pace and allow you

The Whitsundays has always been known as an aquatic playground and it’s a great contrast to experience our rainforest and the local flora and fauna. Tiger Moth Adventures what was the best part of the tour?

The Tiger Moth Adventure is such a cool experience.

It’s one on one with you and the awesome owner/ pilot, Nick, and of course the ever beautiful 75 year old tiger moth Melisandre, Nick quotes her as “our red woman. She is beautiful to look at, a joy to fly, but cross her and she does not forgive!”. I’m an antique collector so my appreciation for her original features was something I wasn’t expecting with an adrenaline experience. In her heyday she was used by the RAAF for fighter pilot training. YES, I was crapping my pants leading into the aerobatics, I never felt unsafe and carried the attitude that they just don’t build things like they used to!

Doing aerobatics at 4500 feet is nothing short of pure adrenalin, your body pulls 3.5gs as you head into spins, dives, loops and what feels like endless inversions and spinning. If adrenalin isn’t your thing, than I can not speak highly enough of choosing the Tiger Moth for a scenic flight (40 minutes for $235 to see Hill Inlet & Whitehaven Beach). There’s a certain romance with the historic aircraft and seeing the Whitsundays from the air is an experience you will never forget... There’s 74 islands, magestic coastline and undulating mountains as far as the eye can see.

Nick grew up building planes and engines and this business IS HIS DREAM. His passion is evident and the knowledge and humor he shares is priceless. I paid an extra $85 to purchase a full video of my experience just so my family could see my fear on this This unforgettable experience!!

MUDDDD!!! Seriously the entire tour was brilliant.

This is the newest and largest tourist attraction on the mainland in the Whitsundays. The intelligence that has gone into the master planning of the entire park is evident. The minute you jump off the tour bus, you just know you’re in for an awesome experience!

The man made challenge area was so much fun with obstacles, logs, hills, corners, tyres to bounce on and ramps to play with. The absolute highlight is the mud pit challenge area as the finale. It’s where the real mud action takes place... a circuit track with over 5 mud pits to burn through with reckless abandon... you literally get covered in mud!

where did you go?

The courtesy bus picked us up at Base Backpackers in Airlie Beach. The 47o Acre Wings Adventure Park is a 40 minute drive into the Whitsunday Hinterland.

Once you arrive at the park you are given a quick intro about the facilities and the driver briefing takes place. Everyone jumps into their own little all terrain vehicle and starts their engines, setting off on a scenic adventure tour through classic sub tropical bushland... You’ll encounter gullies swarming with butterflies, drive through dry creek beds, climb hills and stop at a look out that gives you a birds eye view of the entire hinterland back to the Whitsunday coastline in the distance. The park also features kangaroos, wallabies and koalas hiding in the gum trees!

This is simply a MUST DO experience for any visitor to Whitsundays that is looking for half a day of action on the mainland. The owners of this brand new park have a winning formula. The tracks are so well thought out to maximise the natural hilly landscape to provide maximum fun! Unlike most other tours you’ll do on a holiday, this is an all weather tour.

The Adventure Park would be an entirely different experience of mud action on a wet day!

what did your tour include?

The half day included courtesy pick up/drop off in Airlie Beach. On the way to the park they play a great info video explaining the action, tour features, safety and driver training. You select your helmet/goggles and your very own mean ATV machine! The tour is fully guided with constant monitoring of your activity in the park. At no point on this tour was I scared. It was a day of grinning from ear to ear and constant laughter.

Absolutely! I can’t think of one single friend or family member of mine that would not LOVE this tour.

Blokes are a given but girls don’t dismiss this as you will have just as much fun. It’s suitable for all ages above 8. On the day I went out, there was such a diverse mix of tourists, some young Aussie

It’s around the bend on your way out to Shute Harbour just before the Port of Airlie Precinct. The venue has a global reputation for its seafood and is sporting one of the best Rum Bars in Australia.

what you'll find there FISH D’VINE Yes, the restaurant is called Fish D’vine but they are far more than seafood specialists! In fact, on my last visit to the restaurant I devoured a char grilled Riverina Black Angus prime rib. It was huge and cooked to perfection. The coowner, Rebecca Clark, is a self confessed food junkie. Her travels of the globe are evident in the diversity of the way the seafood dishes are created. Rebecca’s business partner Kevin Collins is mad about fishing so together they share a love of global food, fresh seafood and local produce. You are on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef and it’s literally a supermarket of delights out there with some of the best fishing in Australia!

THE RUM BAR The Rum Bar is run by Dr Rum aka Mark Wyatt and his team of trained bar staff and rum educators. Now, being at a rum bar with 100’s of rums to choose from I thought it would be rude to just stick to my standard rum, so I asked our waitress to get the bar to make me something that they would recommend. What a treat it was!

The coolest part about this little El Dorado Rum was when I headed to the bar to ask ‘Dr Rum’ to talk to me about what I’d just consumed. I was given a journey through the history of the El Dorado distillery and how the flavour was originally designed to match the profile of Pepsi/Coca Cola. It’s the last remaining distillery left in British Guyana. At one point the region featured over 300 distilleries and these guys have acquired all the equipment. Dr Rum’s eyes glisten with a wicked passion as he explains they now have a scientific palette to play with. He follows this up with a cheeky comment... “Leave your car at home. It’s not a light beer bar!”

cost The restaurant is well priced for the quality and diversity of menu items. Entrees range from a cob loaf with slow roasted garlic butter $8.90, yummy sugar cane cured Tasmanian salmon $14.95 through to oysters, prawns even salt and pepper tempura crocodile for $13.90! The main serves are huge. You won’t leave hungry and can fill your belly with seafood chowder for $19.00 right through to the 2 course hot/cold seafood indulgence platter for two for $110. Kids meals sound tasty to me and are all priced at $10 each. The divine desserts are really creative and they taste even better washed down with a mojito rum!

why we love it Fish D’vine and Rum Bar have something for everyone. It’s large and the restaurant is fully airconditioned. The food is divine. The rum is even better.

This place sports one of the best views on offer in Airlie Beach, you’ll be really impressed with your ‘food with a view’ experience. The venue features a huge bar, pokies, interior dining and the balcony is divided for outdoor dining and a designated smoking area on the left. The Club hosts Airlie Beach Race Week & The Great Whitsunday Fun Race annually as well as lots of other smaller regattas, depending on the time of year you’re dining this place is alive with sailors from across Australia.

cost Both the dinner and lunch menus feature a variety of crowd pleasers. On the dinner menu starters are really affordable like salt n pepper calamari $8, chicken nibbles $10 and burgers & salads range from $12.50-$24.50. I asked the chef to choose for me as I really wanted to try a dish that everyone raves about - I wasn’t disappointed! Chicken supreme, stuffed with smoked ham, and cream cheese, served with mash potato and asparagus, finished with avocado sauce, $26 worth of yum at every bite. The house smoked chicken salad with pomegranate, alfalfa, quinoa and parmesan was light and filled with flavour, it reminded me I needed to be more adventurous with salads instead of just sticking to my old trusty caesar!

Lunch is served daily between 12-2:30pm. Mains range from pot pie for $10 through to house battered coral trout for $26.

why we love it The Whitsunday Sailing Club is an institution in Airlie Beach, it has a fantastic laid back atmosphere. The ceiling to floor is covered in club flags, regatta posters, photographs and historic sailing memorabilia. Locals refer to Airlie Beach as drinking town with a sailing problem and this is the home turf for sailors and locals alike. Every Wednesday afternoon feels like a Sydney to Hobart in Airlie Beach, the local sailors knock off there normal jobs early and participate in ‘Twilight Race Night’, it’s a serious must do activity for them and it’s great for us non-yachties to watch them race from the club or any resort with an ocean view balcony in Airlie Beach!

Located in uptown Airlie Beach Fusion is one of the newest dining options on the Whitsunday Coast. Located on the right as soon as you hit the main street you can’t miss this street side dining venue. The large overhanging 2nd level balcony allows for a fully shaded outdoor dining option. Raised timber decking, industrial light fittings and funky modular timber furniture provide an urban industrial feel. The barista coffee station is so close to the footpath you can literally smell the coffee on approach and the exposed glass front kitchen highlights the overall interaction with the preparation of your food experience.

what you'll find there The menu is themed earth, ocean, paddock and this restaurant lives up to it’s name - a fusion of flavours from across the globe! This venue excels at Tapas with dishes combining a modern twist on authentic dining options... merging influences from Spanish, Asian and French cuisine. There’s options for all taste buds ranging from Ahi tuna sashimi with wasabi gel and roe mascarpone, through to buffalo wings with spiced panko. The venue is licensed with a fully stocked bar, there’s even hotel accomodation on the upper level so you really can eat, drink, party and sleep at Fusion.

Lunch and dinner tapas plates range from $6 for rainbow olives with ciabatta through to the sensational caramalised scallops with chorizo and pear and parsnip puree @ $19.

why we love it This venue is really special. Without sounding cliche, it simply has a ‘good vibe’.

The head chef, Reece Schroder sums up his passion for food really well, “People taste food with their eyes first. My plates are created not made...Each mouthful should be different”. We’ll finish this review with an OMG moment. I just tasted the BEST dessert I have ever experienced in my life. While the items on the chef’s tasting plate dessert will vary on the day, we devoured a visually insane combination of sweet delights... rasberry sorbet, lychee sorbet, coffee and baileys ice cream, double choc fudge toffee, cacao chocolate balls, seasonal fruit and a mixed berry cheesecake with house coulis and chantilly cream all for $19.

The only thing between you and the turquoise waters of the Coral Sea is the little Bicentennial Walkway path. It is literally paradise to dine and view the magic of the Whitsunday Coast.

On the left as soon as you pass the first round about on entry into main street Airlie. It’s a brand new funky little industrial cafe with abstract pop art style hand painted interior murals of American icons. You can’t miss it. Nothing is overlooked in this little restaurant. Their menus are easy to read from the footpath and you’re greeted and offered seating as soon as you walk in. Little Vegas is open 6 Days from 12pm for lunch until late into the evening (closed Tuesdays).

what you'll find there Sorrento is predominantly Italian with a huge variety of pasta and pizza’s for lunch, coupled with plenty of other lighter options, salads, burgers and a selection of seafood. The venue was renovated late 2014 and boasts a brilliant ocean front deck. It’s a two level dining experience with the upper level featuring a smaller more intimate balcony and interior dining.

cost Lunch pricing ranges from $11.50 for a Mediterranean wrap through to a gourmet chilli prawn pizza for $24. The seafood platter for 2 @ $32 is excellent value...

Visually wow and a great way to eat a variety of seafood on a budget. Sorrento is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week and also serves breakfasts on the weekend from 8am.

why we love it The combination of food in such a magical location makes this venue a must do experience for travellers to Airlie Beach.

You really feel part of the coastal lifestyle when you eat here... I’m sure many tourists have thoughts of uprooting their life and moving to the Whitsundays while dining here. PS. Drinking at Sorrento is essential... a huge bar, affordable prices and live music with magic sunsets.

what you'll find there Burgers, of course, and plenty of Street Eats... The Burgers are the best I’ve eaten in little Airlie Beach. With one bite of tasty ground beef and melted Swiss cheese you know you’ve reached burger nirvana! The stuffed mushrooms with crispy bacon and cream cheese and the flavour filled spicy fish tacos are amazing.

cost Street Eats start from $4 for corn on the cob, $5 for fries with ketchup or for $16.50 order the trio of sliders, 3 yummy mini burgers - beef rib, jerk chicken & fiery meatball with tzatziki. The signature burgers range in price from $15-$16.50 and are all served with fries (I insist on trying the aioli!). All the food and beverage items have quirky names. I’m drawn to come back and try all the burgers based solely on this, The Fear & Loathing (beef, garlic mushroom and bacon), The El Rancho (grilled chicken burger) & The Fuzz (root beer braised pulled pork) to name a few.

Going to Little Vegas is an experience in itself. They play electro swing music that you can’t ignore. They have their own Little Vegas beer on tap, with plenty of boutique and craft beers to choose from. Of course they put a unique spin on cocktails, the cosmopolitan inspired cocktail Musk till Dawn was made from musk infused vodka and was BLISS!

why we love it The atmosphere here for a day time lunch or dinner is damn cool. It’s an intimate space for dinner for two or make a group booking for a dinner party. Kids love this venue. It’s affordable, fun and funky. Another plus is the kitchen moves quick to serve your meals. Located near the Airlie Lagoon you can also order takeaways and eat your burger by the ocean.

The bar area at the back is a design statement, cladded in chunky recycled timbers, they finish off the industrial vintage feel with strings of custom Edison light bulbs as the central feature - I just love the squirrel cage filaments. Once you see this place you’ll want to eat there.
