Do you believe? They say you have to have “faith” to truly believe. Believe in what? In God, angels, the bible, heaven, yourself, someone else, fate, destiny, karma or the universe? Is it one single thing or all things? I recently received a text message from my mum about angels, asking if I had faith and to send it on to 14 people and as soon as I received the same message back 5 times, I would be blessed in someway. So as the text instructed, I forwarded this on to 25 people. It was only meant to be 14, but I wanted to make sure I got my 5 responses!!! The next morning I went for a run with my friend, who I had also sent the message to. I knew that she had forwarded it on also, as she was one of the 3 responses I had already received. When I thanked her for the reply to the message, and asked if she had any, she responded by saying “Oh, I don’t believe in that stuff!” My first thought was what “stuff” do you not believe in and, of course you believe. In someway we all do! It’s the reason we forward these messages in the first place, make a wish when we blow out our birthday candles or when we see a shooting star. It’s when we pray to God for help, when we have nowhere else to turn. We all do it! It doesn’t matter “what” it is you believe, what matters is that you have faith. Just for the record! After receiving my 5th response to the text message, I did get that blessing. Enjoy November!

It’s still, or can be an awkward moment, like a blind date. The planned ‘brief’ coffee date turned into a 3 hour lunch
A couple of months after my partner & I started dating, I had the pleasure of meeting his like-minded sister who I really clicked with, when she visited Airlie Beach. The three of us spent a week wining & dining and enjoying the sights & scenes of the Whitsundays. Two months following, whilst visiting my family & friends on the Gold Coast where I grew up, I jumped at the opportunity for a coffee date with Naomi (my sister in law). And who would have thought I could get away with not meeting the in laws also! Although I was without my partner when I met his parents, everything went well. To the extent that the planned ‘brief’ coffee date turned into a 3 hour lunch, full of laughter and story telling. When the in laws next visited Airlie Beach, it was like welcoming my 2nd family. I am very lucky to be accepted into the family of such caring & loving people. Amie Chalmers, adam & eve salon
Maybe they don’t drink and are really straight. These aren’t things you worry about when meeting your in-laws for the first time when you’ve got a few miles under your belt. It’s still, or can be an awkward moment, like a blind date. You have no idea of what to expect, but have to be polite and full of idle chit chat for the duration of dinner. I met my in-laws for what I guess was a Christmas reveal - daughter brings home the new guy that she’s sweet on for Christmas Dinner. I can’t remember it really, just that they were different from my family. We get along great and frequently have dinner, catchups or they’ll baby sit for us while we go out.
I have to be careful, my mother in law is my boss
I have to be careful, my mother in law is my boss… ;-) It was a Wednesday night when I first met Tim & Norina, I remember walking in the door to hear Norina screaming at Tim... laughing from him tickling her on the couch. It was family movie night & take out night. Moving up from Melbourne alone it is great to be part of a family home environment again. I am lucky to this day to still be such a big part in their lives! sarah rose, in the booth, whitsundays

Is your website content good quality?
GOOGLE KNOWS.
Have you heard the term SEO? It is otherwise known as search engine optimisation. Chances are if you have a website, that you would have heard this acronym thrown around from time to time.
Ensuring your website is search engine optimised and friendly is key to your online marketing success. But what does that mean and how do you ensure your website meets this need? There are many techniques to ensure your website is optimised for search, good and bad. Blackhat SEO refers to aggressive SEO strategies which include tactics such as keyword stuffing, invisible text and adding unrelated keywords to page content. These techniques do not obey search engine guidelines. White SEO refers to organic strategies that focus on keyword analysis, back linking and link building, all which follow search engine rules and policies. Google is now focusing on the quality of your content. It is rewarding websites that give users a better search experience because they are

providing quality content. Valuing those who provide value is fair, right? As a consumer, I say yes! For business, this is a little daunting. We still have to ensure that we have the right keywords within our site, and it also means that we have to continually update our space online with quality content for our consumers. How? A blog! Naturally, you will have keywords within your content and by posting to a regular blog page within your website, you will provide Google with new quality content to grade. The mantra “content is king” is relevant. Consider this when posting. Be aware, the algorithm behind SEO is constantly changing and, as it does, competition gets tougher. Everything will come down to the quality of the content you are providing. That is the only constant. By providing useful, helpful, quality content, you will be rewarded in the long term. People will stay on your website longer and Google will recognise this and respond by naturally increasing your rankings. It won’t happen overnight but… If you need help with your website content, contact Tolita from 8 Seconds. Call 0488 117 728, www.8seconds.com.au. 8 Seconds. Marketing for your business. Can a Profitable Business
go Broke?
I recently had two clients in to see me, in totally different industries, both experiencing cash flow problems.
Client One
They kept a close eye on their books and Profit and Loss and it was showing them that they were making a reasonable profit, so they couldn’t understand why they were short of cash. Unfortunately, the Profit & Loss doesn’t tell the whole story. We had a look at their debtors and they had blown out a little bit, but that wasn’t the only reason. We had a look at their creditors and they had reduced their creditors, but that wasn’t the only reason. To find the complete reason we had to do a cash flow statement that showed all the cash that came in and all the cash that went out.
At Synergy Professional Accounting Solutions it’s all about you, we believe that working together with our clients achieves better results. We listen to what you want from your business and what you expect from us to help you achieve that. Listening and making suggestions about how we can help is what we do best, our focus is on you and your business.
Synergy - Working together - Achieving results
The first part was easy. The cash coming in from invoicing was slightly lower because they hadn’t been chasing debtors. The next part was still quite easy. Tracking all the expenses they had paid and sure enough it showed that they’d made a lower profit because they’d paid some expenses early. But it was the next section that was the killer. The part I call ‘below the line’. Below the line are the things you pay that don’t appear on your Profit & Loss, such as loan repayments, tax payments, asset purchases, drawings, credit card payments, super payments etc. This showed that they had paid an extra loan repayment, a large GST payment and taken some extra drawings. The combination of these had caused the cash problem. Once identified it was easy to fix, chase debtors, don’t pay creditors early, reduce drawings and put money aside for GST each month.
Client Two
She hadn’t been keeping a close eye on her books because her bookkeeper was behind. She’d been watching what was in the bank and always seemed to be short and having to put money in from her own funds. Things had come to a head because she had run out of money. The answer was almost the same except this time we did a cash flow forecast so we could see what had happened and what the future held. The business again was profitable but the forecast did not look good. By not acting sooner she had over geared by drawing down on very high interest rate credit lines and now the below line payments were greater than the profit her business was generating.

She had to immediately cut costs, everything that was not absolutely necessary, reduce staff levels and refinance.

The Vintage Room
Mackay’s first three-Michelin-star chef, Manfred Drotschmann, has received rave reviews for his delicate yet decadent Vintage Room menu creations. “Exclusively imported” to Mackay by owner Amani Khehra (who also owns Spice n Flavor and Toscanis), this 5-star restaurant is an oasis of tranquillity for the “more mature crowd”, as he so aptly puts it. Soft lounge music allows guests to talk amongst themselves and enjoy quality wine and tapas. And with almost 200 wines, 60 types of beer, 100 spirits, a variety of cocktails and a unique menu showcasing vintage food, you’ll never be short of options. True to its name, everything from the wines and cheeses to the balsamic vinegar in this restaurant is authentic vintage. “I specialise in molecular gastronomy and our combined purpose is to educate our customers about what we do; The Vintage Room is something quite unique to Mackay,” Mr Drotschmann said. Our city’s “vibrancy, interesting mix of people – most of which own an i-something” – makes Mackay the perfect place to set up a mobile phone repair shop in the eyes of Gary Finlay. This brand new, almost three-month-old business, National Mobile, is a one-stop shop for all your iPhone, iPad and smart phone repairs and services. “We stand by all our repairs 110 per cent, and we’re the only company that offers a lifetime warranty on parts,” Gary said. “We also have a huge range of cases and accessories and can provide on-thespot quotes.” “Our lifestyles today often depend upon the use of mobile phones; which is why we guarantee fast and efficient service.” As an added bonus, with every repair job you drop into National Mobile this month, you have the opportunity to purchase a bonus pack worth $49 for just $10! The pack includes a durable protective case and a clear-screen guard (available only while stocks last). Crave Frozen Yogurt
che a t os Mo Cafe
Crave Frozen Yoghurt is – quite literally – one of the coolest places to pass the time this summer. It’s been almost a year since the successful self-serve cafe opened its doors, and what a busy time owners Mark and Jacinta Christensen have had. “Mackay’s city is the perfect location for our business; for starters we can enjoy longer trading hours here as opposed to restrictions that would generally apply in shopping centre environments,” Mark said. “We absolutely love the family friendly atmosphere of this town,” Jacinta added. Aside from a multitude of frozen yoghurt flavours on offer, there are dozens upon dozens of different toppings available – from fresh fruit and muesli to chocolate and lollies. And because it’s self serve, you can help yourself to as much as you like (payment is calculated by the weight of your frosty creation).
“Fantastic atmosphere; awesome coffee.” “Great service and cheaper than most places in town.” “A great place to unwind with friends.” Spread the word, because that’s precisely what Moostache cafe’s Facebook fans are doing! Moostache is Mackay city’s new local coffee destination, providing a homely space for friends, couples, groups or private business meetings. “We offer delicious blends of coffee and teas as well as a wide range of cakes, muffins, filos, croissants, salads, lasagne, cannelloni and more,” owner Karen Cooke said.

Coco Cubano
The heritage, music and culture of the 50s-style Old Havana is the inspiration behind Coco Cubano – a gourmet espresso, chocolate, tapas and cocktail bar that’s recently settled into the city. Franchisees Colleen and Len Johnston described the venue as a “little slice of Cuba on Wood Street”. “Mackay is on the same latitude in the southern hemisphere as Cuba is in the northern hemisphere, so we feel it’s rather a natural fit,” Colleen said. “Our decor, including a marble bar, cigar boxes and big leather chairs, will instantly transport you to the vibrant and decadent island,” she said. “I’m passionate about hospitality, Cuba and the Coco Cubano experience, and Len and I and our team will continually strive to create an enjoyable, welcoming and quality environment.” Pop by for brekkie Monday to Thursday this month and take advantage of the November special – a bacon and egg wrap and regular coffee for only $12. Cozmetic Ink and TattXTract
Ador’a Café
The names of former partners, mistakes and poor choices are amongst the three most common types of tattoos Natalie Hempel, of Cozmetic Ink and TattXTract, is often asked to painlessly remove.
After a decade in the coffee and slush industry and four years operating in Mackay, Danny and Marina Papaioanou have taken the next milestone step in their extensive career – opening Ador’a Café.
“We use a non-laser tattoo-removal system, which extracts the tattoo ink out of the body painlessly, instead of pushing it into your lymphatic system like the traditional form of laser removal,” she said. “We’re also the only business in town to offer cosmetic tattooing.”
Ador’a Café is a retail extension of the couple’s successful North Queensland Coffee and Slush company, which prides itself on supplying superior service and quality products and equipment to our region and beyond. Ador’a coffee house operates from an iconic 120-year-old renovated and restored building in Victoria Street. The secret to the company’s success – according to Marina – is passion, dedication, service and experience.
Cozmetic Ink provides the perfect option for busy women who want to look great 24-7; the company specialises in the application of permanent eyeliner, brows, lips and beauty spots. “People have been flooding in ever since we opened our doors in April and so many of our satisfied customers have been spreading the word for us,” Natalie said. Visit in November to receive $100 off cosmetic tattooing and $50 off any tattoo removal treatment. A. 8 TOP FAMILY LAW TIPS for separating couples
1. Don’t burn your bridges. If you can try to keep on speaking terms with your other party, it helps when you are trying to negotiate an agreement 2. Start collecting your financial documents as soon as you can, even before seeing a solicitor. 3. If you have children, try and come to some arrangement about the children spending time with each of you. Once you come to an arrangement stick to it. 4.
Seek advice from a family lawyer as soon as possible Remember that you get what you pay for. Not any solicitor can negotiate a good outcome. Look for a specialist and research their background.
5. Family law matters will be different for each individual. Don’t assume your matter will be the same as your friend’s. 6. Review your will and power of attorney. 7. Visit the Department of Human Services website to get some idea of what your rights and obligations are regarding child support.
Cathy Krieg, senior associate
8. It’s great if you can come to an agreement with your ex to split up joint property. Just make sure you go to a family law solicitor to properly document it so it is legally binding.

As one of the strongest law practices in provincial Queensland, McKays Solicitors prides itself on having strong people to become the pillar of its business. Scott McSwan and Emma Lanigan are people who stand for justice. As part of McKays Solicitors workplace relations and safety team, they are dedicated to ensuring businesses and individuals are protected within the complexities of the Fair Work Act. Scott leads McKays industrial relations and employment law team, and is an integral part of McKays’ mining services team. Admitted as a solicitor in 1995, Scott became a partner of Barry Beaverson and Stenson Solicitors in 1998, which subsequently merged with McKays Solicitors. He was managing partner from 2008 to 2012. The workplace relations and safety team are dedicated employment lawyers, focused on assisting with employment solutions. The team action recruitment, termination and performance management solutions, can assist with work health and safety requirements and check to ensure that employment contracts are legally compliant. Emma Lanigan also has a passion for assisting clients with employment law requirements and is motivated by achieving great outcomes for her clients. She and Scott work together within the team so their clients have access to an employment lawyer when an urgent issue arises. Emma chose to study law because she wholeheartedly believes that lawyers make a difference.
She graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts with a psychology major and a Bachelor of Laws (Honors). She worked with a Brisbane law firm while she finished her final years of study. Then she completed a Graduate Diploma of Professional Legal Education and Training at the University of Queensland before being admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2004. The desire to study a Bachelor of Arts came from a passion for dance. Emma was accepted into the Ballet Theatre of Queensland, a youth ballet company, when she was 14. “I spent every spare minute dancing and in the school holidays we would perform at the Brisbane theatres. I played various roles; from the Lion in the Wizard of Oz to Tinkerbell in Peter Pan. “It is a passion I will never lose but nowadays I enjoy watching the amazing shows that travel to Mackay and occasionally take a trip away to see one,” Emma said. After high school, Emma hung up her pointe shoes to pursue a career in the law. Emma is also now a mum to two beautiful girls, 6-year-old Charlotte and 3-year-old Ava.. Passionate about social justice, Emma volunteers with the Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre Inc., a not-for-profit community legal centre, standing tall for the rights of those seeking justice in Mackay.

Michael
Clarity Hearing Solutions
Cape Hillsborough National Park, where verdant rainforest meets volcanic headlands that plunge into the Coral Sea. Famous for beach foraging wallabies at sunrise, this patch of paradise holds a special place in Michael Polkinghorne’s heart. It’s where he chose to propose to his fiancée, Lisa. After nervously hiding the engagement ring at home, his secret plan was executed to perfection, and she said yes! Michael is an audiologist at Clarity Hearing Solutions, which involves audiological testing and rehabilitation to both paediatric and adult patients. He has a love of music, and enjoys playing the guitar. So, as a musician he has always been interested in the physics of sound. He grew up in the small rural town of Mildura, and chose to study four hours away in Adelaide. He had an interest in health and in improving people’s quality of life, so chose to specialise in audiology, as it is a blend of science and interaction with people. During his time at university, Michael was part of a research group who assessed the auditory processing abilities of adolescent aged children with a history of middle ear problems. That research has since been presented at the World Congress of Audiology this year and is due to be published. It is an interest that Michael continues to study while working.
Photography by: iconic bride photography
He also has a clinical interest in assessing auditory processing disorder, which is assessing the complex auditory and neural pathways that lead to the brain, and working out whether there is any impairment in these pathways. Being raised in a rural area gave Michael an appreciation for the importance of access to quality health services. After completing his study at university, he spent some time working in rural communities, before moving to Mackay. A keen supporter of AFL, he plays locally with the Mackay City Hawks and is used to hearing ‘aerial ping pong’ jokes from mates who love their NRL. Whether he’s going for a torpedo, daisy-cutter or screamer, his hope is for the mighty Hawks to soar to premiership glory. www.corelife.com.au 23
Linda Rankin Results Personal Training Management (RPTM)
After the birth of her second daughter, Linda Rankin was the heaviest she had been, but the determined mother of two implemented an overhaul of her lifestyle, giving her the confidence to enter figure fitness competitions. Linda grew up in Mackay and was a talented musician. She started playing the saxophone at age 11 and continued to add more instruments as she got older. She played in school bands and was a part of Mackay’s Big Band for five years. Linda worked in the IT industry and progressed to owning her own IT company. When she became pregnant with her first daughter, she sold the business, with no intention of returning to the industry. After the birth of her daughter, a friend and personal trainer encouraged her to go to the gym and Linda thrived in the atmosphere. She enjoyed her training, and knew it was an industry she wanted to be immersed in, so she completed her Certificate 3 in Fitness while she was pregnant with her second daughter. She began working as a group fitness instructor with RPTM, which was owned by her encouraging friend. She went on to complete her Certificate 4 in Fitness, as well as a host of other industry-related courses, and is now the director of RPTM. Although she was working in the industry, Linda struggled with her weight, and knew that it was her food choices and not her fitness that was letting her down. “I didn’t feel that I looked the part of a personal trainer, even though I knew how to train. It took three months and an overhaul of my lifestyle to lose 12kg and three dress sizes. “Most people who look at me now would never know that I had come from that place, but I believe it has helped me as a trainer to understand the struggles that we can all face.

“RPTM provides personal training at the client’s home, or at the park or beach. We have designed it to be less intimidating than a gym, and mums can bring their children to play while they work out,” Linda said. After she conquered her weight, Linda was inspired to enter her first figure competition, and fell in love with the challenges and sense of achievement which comes with the sport. Linda has also dedicated 11 years to the Australian Navy cadets, teaching teenagers to sail, canoe and powerboat and learn important leadership skills. “It’s incredible to be able to offer these kids amazing experiences, and then watch them become respectable young adults in our community,” she said.

Phoebe Slape Pulse Health
“Without a song, each day would be a century” – Mahalia Jackson If she hadn’t studied medicine, Phoebe Slape would have pursued her passion for music. With a taste she describes as eclectic, Phoebe has played the cello since she was 8 years old. She played in the Queensland Youth Orchestra and then performed in a string trio for many years, gracing weddings, balls and other formal events with the instrument’s sonorous sound. When she joined the University of Queensland, she played in the University of Queensland Medical Orchestra but it was in the field of medicine to which she dedicated her study, giving 11 years to become a medical specialist. “I was interested in how the body works and also wanted to work with and help people in regards to rehabilitation medicine. I had some great mentors that led me into this field, I find the vocation to be varied, interesting and rewarding,” Phoebe said. Phoebe lives on the Sunshine Coast with her husband, a palliative care clinical nurse. She commutes to Mackay weekly, working Tuesday to Thursday at Mackay Rehabilitation Hospital, formerly known as Pioneer Valley Private Hospital, then North Mackay Private Hospital. The rest of the week she works at Eden Rehabilitation Centre on the Sunshine Coast. Both Mackay Rehabilitation Hospital and Eden Rehabilitation Centre are in the Pulse Health group of hospitals. Phoebe is a specialist doctor, part of a dedicated interdisciplinary team in the field of rehabilitation medicine and also runs a bulk-billed private practice clinic. Her patients include people planning to have, or have had, joint replacement or general surgery, patients with musculoskeletal problems, amputations, stroke victims, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis, to name a few.
A keen traveller, Phoebe is hoping to visit Ireland next year to visit her inlaws. The last time she and her husband visited, she met his family for the first time. Then he proposed on Christmas Day, a moment in time she will never forget.

She also supervises the hospital’s busy day therapy and outpatient programs and is in the process of implementing a tele-health facility for those who live in remote locations. The hospital is an expanding service with potential to benefit many people. A large hydrotherapy pool is planned to be recommissioned to open early in the New Year.
Iconic Bride Photography
“Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are.” – Kurt Cobain As a teenager, Warren Papas saw a photograph of a man holding a baby. It was the most powerful image he had ever seen and, although he didn’t realise it at the time, it was telling him that he had a passion for portrait photography. At university, Warren studied a Bachelor of Applied Computing, while his sister studied a Fine Arts Degree. “At the time I couldn’t see the sense of spending a whole year photographing just the one thing, say rust, or flaky paint. Years later, I would realise it taught students to look at an object in creative and unique ways. An important lesson I use in my photography daily,” Warren said. Warren later obtained his Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching, and spent 20 years as a teacher, progressing to school Principal. It wasn’t a profession he felt was a perfect fit for him. It was the birth of his first child which fuelled his desire for photography. “It was an explosion of opportunity for me. I could combine my love of taking pictures with my computing skills in post-production. “My love of my first child, and subsequent children, saw me quickly become a professional newborn photographer.” “You should photograph what you’re passionate about and, for me, photographing newborns was something that came easily and I enjoyed immensely. It’s such an honour too,” Warren said. He was soon asked to photograph a wedding and it was an environment he thrived in. “I enjoy the pressure and variety of wedding photography. You need to become a product, portrait, fashion and landscape photographer all on the same day, in challenging and often less than ideal conditions. I was hooked and feel truly honoured to be entrusted with capturing every couple’s wedding day,” Warren said. During a difficult time in his life, Warren’s father and one of his best friends both got cancer. Warren then spent time in hospital with suspected heart attacks and it changed his perspective on life. “Without realising it, we can get caught up living a life that isn’t true to who we are. We only have one life. “I was meant to be a photographer. It’s who I am and I am truly grateful that I discovered it and mined the talent that lies within me. “I believe that our purpose in life is to find happiness. When we’re happy, we can then bring happiness to others,” he said. Warren’s happiness is also found at home with three children, aged eight, six and one and fiancée. A day spent on skateboards, push bikes or at the beach, is a day well lived.

Barra 2 Billfish
What do you want to catch?
most recent being for a Hammerhead shark in 2009.
Is your ideal day on the water to be pulling in barramundi and mangrove jack from a calm estuary, or do you prefer the action of sport fishing the deep blue to haul in a billfish?
Richard has spent all his working life on the water, starting as a deckhand on a large fishing charter vessel to now following his dream of running his own fishing charter business.
Barra 2 Billfish have your fishing adventure covered across the spectrum, from Barramundi to Billfish and everything in-between.
Their specialized permit, along with Richards’s vast knowledge of fishing the local waters, allows Barra 2 Billfish to operate between coastal estuary waters and deep-sea waters. Its clientele ranges from the inexperienced learner to the most experienced fisherman, young and old.
The family-owned fishing charter business is run by cousins, Richard Draper and Melissa Johnson. Melissa grew up in Collinsville and spent her childhood barefoot water skiing on the Bowen River with her two brothers. She represented Queensland in the sport and won state titles. Richard is an Airlie Beach local, born and bred, and is said to have saltwater in his veins. He was introduced to fishing at a young age by his mum and dad and held his first Australian fishing record when he was only 3 years old, by catching a Spanish mackerel on a 4kg fishing line. This record was featured in newspapers worldwide, from Australia to Sweden and Germany in 1983. Every spare minute was spent fishing with his family in the local Whitsunday waters, with mum and dad getting him his first dingy with a 2hp outboard when he was 5 years old.
Being a family-owned business, there is always time to take the kids out fishing. Richard takes his son, Kai, fishing on his days off. While Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband Darryn and three children, Dayle, Jayke and Eryn on their 28ft Bertram, called Mystique. Melissa’s son, Jayke, spends his spare time away from school as a deckhand with Richard, gaining experience & learning the tricks of the trade. He is recording his sea hours so when he turns 16 he can complete his coxswain ticket and join the family business in the future. Both Richard and Melissa agree, there’s nothing like a family day out on the water, especially when your maritime playground is the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef.
Richard currently holds three Australian records, two for Queenfish and one for a whaler shark. These records are in excess of 24 years old, with his www.corelife.com.au 27

team comes from “Our all walks of life, and are all part of the Mackay community. They are musicians and athletes, parents and dancers. We are constantly astounded and warmed by the great personalities we have amongst us. We are one big family.
“
The modern face of a family is one which constantly adapts to change, moulded by the differences in how we live. We say goodbye to those we loved, welcome new additions and embrace new names and new backgrounds into our family circle. Goodall’s Motor Group embraces the concept of family, not only in the merging of brands who were once in competition with each other, but also in its dynamic where employees feel like part of a corporate family. Arthur and Peggy Goodall purchased River City Motor Group in 2010. No stranger to blending work with family, their two sons were both under the age of three when the family moved to Mackay. With collective experience of more than 40 years within the motor industry, including the development of international brands, Arthur and Peggy’s dream was to purchase a dealership of their own, in a place they would be proud to raise their sons, Tyler and Brandon. After three years, Arthur and Peggy expanded the dealership, with the purchase of Powerhouse Ford and Mackay Land Rover. This was the beginning of a merger of brands, and a joining of teams, a blending of personalities and beliefs, which would take an initial period of time to unify.
Sixteen months after the brands united as one, the unification was made official, with the dealership renamed as Goodall’s Motor Group. “By putting our name to the brand, we are expressing that we are not a faceless organisation. We are a local business, run by a local family, here to service the local community. We stand behind our people and our product. “Our team comes from all walks of life, and are all part of the Mackay community. They are musicians and athletes, parents and dancers. We are constantly astounded and warmed by the great personalities we have amongst us. We are one big family,” Arthur said. Cherishing the time they spend together as a family, Peggy and Arthur support a family environment. Their sons visit them frequently at work, and feel as much a part of the dealership as their parents. A workplace culture which celebrates opportunities, transparency and diversity of thought, will build a foundation of hard work, determination and perseverance. A family environment where employees care for one other, and their customers. www.corelife.com.au 29
CLASSIC GRUNT It’s a classic car collection to make any vehicle enthusiast weak at the knees. From his 1932 Ford Roadster to his 1954 Chevy Bel Air hardtop, George Pauly’s collection of classic cars has inspired an annual classic car show, right here in the heart of the Whitsundays. George has a fond love of all cars, which started when he was 18. He worked for a classic car importer in Adelaide, South Australia. George was the importer’s only employee, which imported Corvettes, Mustangs and other brands of American muscle. The business also imported engines and parts, so George got very familiar with the ins and outs of classic cars. His first ever car was a HT Monaro 350, the same model of car that Peter Brock first drove Mt Panorama in. George became known in South Australia as the Monaro Man, when he started his own wrecking yard called Monaro Parts. He then took 20 years away from the car industry to start other businesses and became well-known in the accommodation industry for owning and managing camping grounds and tourist parks. He moved with his wife Debbie and daughter, Tiani, from Tennant Creek NT to Flying Fish Point, Innisfail, Northern Queensland, before moving to the Whitsundays in 2005.
BARRA
He and his family own and operate Conway Beach Tourist Park, a secluded tourist park in the Whitsundays, with a reputation for tranquility and unspoiled natural coastline. They purchased the tourist park after selling their park at Flying Fish Point in Innisfail and began work on creating a truly special place for visitors to relax and have fun. His car collection began as a range of Monaros, and then evolved to American muscle cars, including a Camaro. His attention then shifted to classic cars and hot rods and his collection is nothing less than impressive. Featuring amongst George’s collection is a 1932 Ford Roadster, a 1957 Buick hardtop, a 1957 Buicks wagon, a 1954 Chevy Bel Air hardtop, a HT Holden ute with a big block, and a 1939 Ford Coupe hotrod with a supercharged Buick engine.
That’s a lot of muscle, a lot of grunt, and many years of restoration. As a member of the Mackay rod and custom club, George made the suggestion six years ago that members of the club could drive to his tourist park at Conway for a get-together. That fateful move was the catalyst in creating one of the most popular classic car shows in Queensland. This November will be the sixth consecutive year for the event, with more than 130 cars and bikes expected to show. Vehicle owners will congregate at the tourist park Friday and depart

Beep Beep! Arrogance – there’s no place for it on the road. It’s one of those days...
I’m running late for a meeting and, as per usual, it seems like every person who found their driver’s license at the bottom of a box of Weet-Bix has hit the road at the exact same time as I have. I take a deep breath and tell myself I can still make it on time. As I turn the corner from my street, I come across a school zone and the lights are flashing, so obviously I do the right thing and slow down to 40km / hr. When it comes to children and traffic safety, there are no heroes when it comes to speeding. I look in my rear-vision mirror and see another car hurtling toward the back of my car. I think to myself, “Mate, don’t you realise you’re in a school zone?” Before I know it, my new friend is riding my rear end, and it’s not at all pleasurable.
Bad driving behaviour number one. Tail gating.
Yes, I see you there, but your ignorance only makes me want to drive slower, so back up a bit before I tap my brakes to see if you’re awake. I’ve travelled less than 2km from home and already I can feel road rage building up within me. I take another deep breath and decide to be the considerate driver my parents taught me to be. There’s a wide verge up ahead, so I pull over to let rear rider get past. I pull back out behind him and the speed limit increases from 60km/hr to 80km/hr. Finally, I feel like I’m making some progress. I set my cruise control for 79km/hr and start singing to a song on the radio. My joy is short-lived.
people to drive to speed limits?
Bad driving behaviour number two. Driving too slow.
Yes, you can be ticketed for driving too slow if you’re causing a major hold up to other motorists on the road but, more often than not, you’re just an annoyance to other road users who can’t get past. Be a sweety and pull over, or consider taking the bus if you’re not comfortable driving to the speed limit. I continue my journey and we enter another 60km/hr zone, and what do you know, Mr. Speedy drives away from me. It seems he’s content on just cruising at 70km/hr no matter what the actual speed limit is.
It seems like Mr. Speedy was more than happy to zoom past me in a school zone, but now we’re in an 80km/hr area, he decides to sit on less than 70km/hr.
I approach my first roundabout and wait patiently for a vehicle who is indicating right.
I look to the heavens with a pleading look on my face. How hard is it for
They drive straight through the roundabout. They weren’t turning right at all.
32 www.corelife.com.au
I bet you can guess where this is going.
feature
Bad behaviour number three. Incorrect roundabout signaling.
Let me break down correct roundabout etiquette, as it seems far too many people don’t understand when, and when not, to turn their indicator on. Turning left – indicate left as you approach the roundabout and then turn it off after you have turned. Turning right – indicate right as you approach the roundabout, keep indicating as you go around the roundabout then, as you approach your exit, turn your left indicator on, to indicate that you are exiting the roundabout. This is also applicable for U-turns. Going straight ahead. This one seems to cause most confusion. As you approach the roundabout – DO NOT INDICATE! Go straight through the roundabout and, just as you are about to exit, turn on your left indicator to indicate you are exiting the roundabout. Simple, is it not? The list of incredibly frustrating and arrogant offenses continues all the way into my office.
Bad behaviour number four. People running red lights.
I don’t care if you’re Shane Warne and you’re on your way to make another bad hair commercial, running a red light is stupid and dangerous. Should you care? Yeah yeah. My last, and final peeve, it’s a goody. I finally arrive at my office and I spot the perfect park. I foolishly believe my day is looking up. If I can grab this then I think I’ll make it on time. I wait patiently as the car reverses and I see another car come around the corner. I wait for the reversing car to drive past, and some dirty, dirty person has just zipped into the park I was waiting for, despite the fact I had my indicator on.
Bad behaviour number five. Stealing car parks.
I sit there dumbfounded. Did they genuinely not see me, or is this the most self-righteous, arrogant person on the planet?
Road rage. It affects all of us, so if everyone played their part to be a little less arrogant and a little more patient, we would all be much happier. And yes, I was late to my meeting.
take a deep breath, “ Iand tell myself I can still make it on time.
“
I look at my cricket bat sitting on the back seat, ready for practice after work, and it takes all of my willpower to not get out of the car and dent every panel on that SOB’s car.

CLEAN AIR
IN YOUR CAR CAR CLEANING TIPS 1. Try gently rubbing margarine over tar marks on car paintwork, leave for a couple of hours, then wipe off with a damp cloth. Repeat, if necessary. 2. Use a soft paint brush to dust in those hard to reach places like vents and inside cup holders.
Unfortunately, the arrival of Spring doesn’t just mean beautiful weather and flowers! It can also mean those in your family who suffer from allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems have to take extra precautions. Studies have shown that the air inside our vehicles has been found to have a much higher concentration of pollutants than in the air just outside the vehicle - up to 10 times in some cases. Contaminants in the air such as pollen, fungus spores, dirt and dust pass unfiltered into the passenger cabin, along with the air intake, and can trigger asthma, allergies, headaches, nausea, fatigue and giddiness. There are a number of ways that you can protect the health of family and friends travelling with you. The first is to ask us to check your cabin air filter. There is a cabin air filter fitted to most vehicles built since the late 1990’s you can learn more about Cabin Air Filters here www.motoringabout.com/cabin-air-filters-video/ These filters are designed to reduce the amount of harmful contaminants entering into your vehicle via the heating ventilation and air conditioning system, whilst providing a much cleaner breathing environment for you and your passenger. It also helps keep the interior of your vehicle cleaner due to reduced dust entering the cabin, along with protecting vehicle occupants from harmful gases such as exhaust and ozone. The second way to improve the quality of the air you breathe inside your vehicle is to ask Moranbah Discount Tyres & Mechanical about one of the effective treatments that can be applied directly to the vents of your air conditioning units to eliminate harmful bacteria and odours already lurking in the system. 3. Marks on your cloth seats? First try to absorb as much as possible. Sponge or spray with dry-cleaning fluid. Apply warm water and vinegar. Rinse with water. Keep repeating until the stain is gone. Blot dry. 4. On foggy mornings, try rubbing a cut raw potato over the car windows. When it dries it will keep the windows clear. 5. To get rid of windscreen film, just add a tablespoon of ammonia per 600ml of water. It works better than plain old soap and water. The plastic fittings in most new cars give off fumes, which can cause a haze on the windows. Sponge with vinegar, rinse with water and wipe with a dry cloth. 6. One way to remove corrosion from battery terminals is to wash them with a mixture of baking soda and water. A little Vaseline on the terminals can help prevent it reoccurring.

so it was in average condition, but the bones of the car were excellent. Straight body, little rust and a strong motor that needed only a small amount of TLC. “The previous owner had worked hard on the car, and had converted it to right-hand drive, as well as replaced the motor. The original motor was a 302. This was changed to a 351 Windsor, not a stock size motor for this model of Mustang. The previous owner had made these changes to set the car up for drag racing.
“Watching the Bullitt Mustang scream around the streets of San Francisco, I thought ‘that’s a cool car’” Mark Johnson was a young lad when he watched the movie “Bullitt” with his dad, but it was the beginning of decades of desire. “My dad is a huge Steve McQueen fan. He and I would watch the car chase scenes over and over again. I must have been about 10 years old when I first watched it,” Mark said. In the legendary movie, the 1968 Ford Mustang GT, driven by Lt Frank Bullitt, manoeuvres behind hit-men driving a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. A high-speed muscle car chase ensues, ending when the Mustang forces the Charger off the road, careering into a petrol station, resulting in a fiery explosion. Mark purchased his 1968 Ford Mustang GT two years ago from a seller in Brisbane. The car had been sitting in a carport for 10 years untouched, 38 www.corelife.com.au

“The motor has had plenty of work done to it, alloy heads, nice big lump cam, 750 Holley carb. It also has a 9” diff and a 3” exhaust. This car produces over 400 horsepower. The previous owner tells me that he was doing 12’s down the quarter mile. Pretty quick for an old car that was set up for drag racing, but still able to drive on the streets,” Mark said.
Mark has been restoring the car for the past 15 months, with a lot of blood, sweat and tears resulting from complications with parts not supporting the right-hand drive modification.
which is right-hand drive. With the slick green beast almost finished, Mark intends on showing Bullitt at the Conway Car Show this year. Hopefully, the first of many more to come. With performance grunt as mean as its muscle body, this is one pony you won’t want to get in the way of.
“A lot of the necessary parts don’t just go straight in, due to the right-hand drive conversion, and the fact it’s not a standard size motor. I’m still doing a lot of fine-tuning, and hope to one day, finally, finish it, so I can enjoy it for what it is, a 68 Bullitt Mustang. To register his vehicle as a genuine Bullitt Mustang, Mark contacted the owners of Pontsite, the official website for the Bullitt Mustang. It has a register of all the Bullitt replicas worldwide. Routine?
How do busy parents make it work?
“I feel like I’m constantly mentally and physically overwhelmed with the idea of what needs to be done every day.” If this feels like you, then take comfort in knowing that you’re not alone. Whether the cause is sickness, adrenal fatigue, depression or just a hectic lifestyle, exhaustion can take its toll on all areas of life. The solution?
Dial back your own expectation. Does it really matter if you go to bed before the dishes are done or before the laundry is folded? Honestly, who’s going to see it? No one is judging you other than yourself. Your health and relaxation need to come before household chores. By getting to bed an hour earlier, you may notice benefits, such as increased intimacy with your husband or partner as well as an overall sense of wellness. As well as dialing back expectations, every busy mum knows that a routine is important for getting things done. The better the schedule, the more time left in the day for socialising and having family fun.
Impossible?
Not as impossible as you may think. How much time in a day do you waste finding clothes for the children to wear. Finding where they have left their shoes? Deciding what to have for dinner and lamenting at the endless housework? Schedule everything and implement rules on how you want your household to run. You’re the drill sergeant and your children are your soldiers. How effectively your army performs daily, revolves around discipline.
Ready for battle? The Night Before •
Prepare clothes. Know what the weather is doing tomorrow and choose clothes accordingly, yours included! When children are old enough to choose their own clothes, make this part of their evening bed time ritual, so you’re not fighting with their choices tomorrow morning.
• Prepare for work and day care. Bags are packed, ready to go, sitting beside the front door. • Make lunches. • Plan breakfast. Keep it quick and simple, have ingredients ready to go.
Implementing a schedule and rules
Have a family area designated where there is a calendar showing the monthly schedule. Everyone will know what is expected on each day, including chores and housework.
Keep a survival pack in your car, which includes medication, sunscreen, insect repellant, food and activities, so you don’t get caught out when leaving the home in a rush. As the seasons change, have a fashion show in your home, to identify the clothes that are too small, stained and ripped. This will ensure that only correctly fitting and presentable clothes are in the children’s drawers.
Have one area in the house for where shoes belong, and one area only. Implement this rule strictly to avoid last minute panic looking for shoes.

Tips for relaxation • Use time in the car to relax. Switch off the news and play your favourite music. If you are catching public transport, read a book. • Leave problems at the office. Those problems won’t be solved by stressing about them while you’re at home. Concentrate on fun and laughter with your family. • Make dinnertime peaceful. Turn off the television and implement dinner time as a time for family discussion.

Principal, Nathan McDonald, explains how their mission is to embrace the mind, body and spirit through support and education. “Whitsunday Christian College exists to give children and young people a rich and satisfying life full of promise, purpose and hope. “We strive to shape young men and women of character who are eager to live an adventurous life as they meet life’s challenges using their God-given gifts and talents. “Our College is a vibrant and happy place to be; a place where everyone is important,” Nathan said. Nathan commenced his teaching career at Dalby Christian College on the Darling Downs of Queensland, in 2001.
Nathan McDonald, Principal
He moved to the Whitsundays after accepting a position at Whitsunday Christian College as a secondary teacher and chaplain in 2009. He became Deputy Principal in 2011 and Principal in 2012. He is married with three young children. One is currently in Year two, while another will be going into Prep next year. “I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the College develop in key areas over the last two years and am very blessed to be working with an amazing staff in providing a quality education for our students,” he said. Whitsunday Christian College has approximately 400 students from Prep to Year 12, split into a Primary School and a Secondary School. The schools are located on the same campus, but have their breaks at different times during the day. The two schools join on special occasions, such as ANZAC Day and some chapel services. The average classroom size is 21 students, smaller than the national average, ensuring each student receives the assistance they need to learn and grow. Being in the Whitsundays, the College utilises the incredible resource it has on its doorstep, the Great Barrier Reef. Students in both Primary and Secondary School engage in projects and excursions associated with the Reef and its sustainability. Whitsunday Christian College look forward to meeting you and partnering with you in the education of your children.

SCHOOL RULES ur child how to choose the best one for yo
Learning. It starts from the moment we take our first breath, and doesn’t stop until we take our last.
Parents in Andergrove sing the praises of local primary school, Andergrove State School, where every student and every day count.
Education is the gateway to another dimension of the mind and opportunities abound for friendships, education and knowledge.
Andergrove State School provides quality Primary School education for students in years Prep to Year 7. Its focus continues to be on effective teaching and learning practice that demonstrates measurable improvement to student learning outcomes.
As a parent, choosing the correct school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make, as their educational upbringing will influence the friendships your children make, the skills they develop and the knowledge they absorb. There are some basic considerations when it comes to choosing a primary school.
In support of working families, the school offers a range of additional education programs, including a playgroup for parents and children aged 1 to 4 years old, a pre-Prep program for students beginning Prep next year, and an outside school care program, including before and after school care, as well as vacation care.
Location – is it located reasonably close to home or work in case of emergency, and for every day commuting?
As their parent, there is a lot you can do to help as they progress through their secondary years, to lead them toward a successful future.
Interests – Can the school cater for your child’s interests, such as sport, music or art? Values – Does the school’s homework and discipline agenda reflect your own values? Curriculum – Does the curriculum support all aspects of your child’s development, in terms of social, physical and cognitive? A popular school for consideration in Mackay, is Whitsunday Anglican School. It provides students with an education that caters to their individual needs and proudly promotes Christian values. There is a strong tradition of cooperation and friendship between parents and staff in the school. The process of education is a combined operation, with school and home each playing an important part. The school expects to contribute to the full intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic, moral and spiritual development of each student. The advancement from primary or intermediate to secondary school, is a big moment in a teenager’s life. The introduction of a heavier workload and a more structured learning environment is an appetizer for what faces them later in life. However during this time of transition, your child is more likely to be worrying about fitting in, rather than thinking about their future employment.
Talk to your teen about what they want to get from their schooling. It’s important to support their passion, while finding the right balance of culture, academia and interests. With the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands on its doorstep, Whitsunday Christian College removes a lot of the daunting transition characteristics when moving from Primary to Secondary School, as it incorporates schooling from Prep to Year 12 on the one campus. Although the Primary and Secondary Schools operate separately, they share very similar educational values, relieving the pressure of searching for a new secondary school. For an educational upbringing based on the life and values of Jesus, Holy Spirit College is a complete secondary enrollment option in Mackay. From Years 7 through 12, Holy Spirit College provides a co-educational structure which offers continuity, a plethora of opportunities and a broad curriculum, guided by its patron, the Holy Spirit. With supportive pastoral care, the College provides the foundation for a successful and fulfilling future for its students. It is true what they say about children growing up too fast. If you blink you may very well miss it, so make the most of time spent, and cherish every minute that you have, to make a positive difference in their lives.

Social Media family
Does your family communicate through social media more often than in person?
holiday, when they stop spending time with their friends to spend more time on the computer or when their school work suffers from spending too much time on Snapchat.
If you answered yes, you’re not alone.
Frustrated with the lack of communication from their children, many parents use social media as a way to get an insight into their children’s lives, however many parents understand that their children know how to edit the content that they see.
Rapid advancements in technology and trends in online sharing have made it easier to communicate through electronic devices than in person, but how is this effecting your family dynamic? Children born in the 1990s or 2000s have grown up with technology, and have adapted it into their everyday lives. They are known as digital natives and their lives revolve around technology, in particular social media. As parents, you wouldn’t have grown up with social media, and understandably, may be confused about how much technology and screen time is too much. Signs that your children are too entrenched in social media are when they will interrupt a conversation to check an electronic update, when they would rather browse their phone than take part in activities while on
44 www.corelife.com.au
Being connected to social media all the time can have detrimental consequences for both children and parents, including depression, cyberbullying and a lack of trust and privacy. Social Media is gaining momentum in many forms, so while you need to accept that it will continue to play a part in society, there are steps you can take to achieve balance in your family’s lifestyle. Make time every day to speak face to face with your children, and for a good length of time. During this time, there is no electronic interference. No television, smart phones or tablets. This time will develop your children’s understanding of body language, voice inflection and eye contact. Regular family communication can benefit the mental well-being of children,
By switching off the technology, and switching on the conversation, you open up the opportunity for the family to share special moments from their day. Emotions such as pride and love can’t be felt as effectively through a screen as they can around a dinner table. How safe are you online? How much do you share online? While you may be well intentioned, you do need to be careful about what you share online. The basic rule is, if you wouldn’t be comfortable with a stranger knowing the information, don’t make it public knowledge in an online forum. Nothing is completely secure on the Internet, and while most people use social media in a fun way, there are those few who may use your information to harm you or your family. As an example, if you post an adorable video of your child on Facebook, you may be comfortable with everyone on your friends list seeing it, but do you know every single one of your friends friends? And their friends? And their friends? You get the idea. Through simple interactions such as likes, shares and tagging, your video may end up in the new feed of someone you don’t even know. Is that a risk you’re willing to take? Who are your children talking to online, and what are they sharing? What are they viewing? How can you protect them?
There are steps you can take to make online time safer for you and your family.
1. Facebook security. If you click the padlock icon, you have the option to do a security scan, as well as see who can see your posts, who can contact you, and what to do if you or your children are being harassed by an unwanted person. 2. Do not click on friend request emails. If it is a genuine friend request or message, then you will be able to access the request directly on Facebook. 3. Do not click on any links in emails, unless you are 100 percent certain that the email is from a genuine source, such as you need to click a link to verify your membership with a website. 4. Talk to your children about the danger of talking to people online. Enforce a clear rule that they aren’t allowed to talk to anyone, unless that person is a family member, or close friend from school or sport. Anyone can create a fake profile pretending to be an attractive teenager, you never really know who you are talking to unless you personally know them. 5. Password security. Never use the same password on social media sites as you would for your Internet banking, or other financial websites. Always use a unique password on financial websites.
Is social media turning you into a narcissist? Our obsession with the way we are portrayed on social media has not only changed the way we spend time in our day, but also the way we think and feel. Our self-esteem directly correlates to the amount of likes or comments we receive on social media, suggesting that the rise of social media is the cause of a more narcissistic community.
Chances are, you’ve encountered narcissism on a daily basis on social media. That friend whose children are always brighter and better than everyone else’s. That family member whose holiday is always bigger and more expensive, because you know, their experiences were far more superior. And to think, this behaviour probably started with a text. That feeling of excitement you used to get when you phone would light up, because it meant that someone was thinking about you. That feeling is addictive, and now it’s being dished out left, right and centre with every follower, tweet, hashtag, like, share and tag. The more we share, the more we get back, and it becomes an addictive process. But this addiction, like any, can send you crashing into depression. Just after you feel great about your child winning player of the day, someone elses child was selected to represent Australia. You share a selfie of your super cute onesie as you prepare to curl up on the couch with pizza and wine, and you see a group of your friends tagged in a photo at a chic new bar. Wait…where was your invitation? Now you feel lonely. It’s a constant rollercoaster of amazing highs and depressing lows, and while you realise your desire for attention is actually driving you insane, you don’t know how to stop the ride.
Think before you post.
Am I doing this for attention? Or am I doing it because I know my friends will love it. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of your achievements, just remember everyone else has a life too. It’s not a competition.
Switch off to turn on.
Is too much social media time ruining your love life? You need to unplug to reconnect.
Top Tips
1. Set a finish time. Dedicate a small amount of the evening to online browsing, but once this time is over, put the phones and tablets away. Don’t allow texts, messages or alerts to interrupt your together time. Instead, play a game together, go for a walk, give each other massages or go out on a date. 2. Share passwords. While every relationship needs a small element of privacy, by sharing your password, you’re showing your loved one that you have nothing to hide. The expectation is that they won’t ever need to use it, as your expression of openness will give them trust. 3. Consider your posts. Your wife may be uncomfortable with you sharing ‘top ten best sets of breasts’, not necessarily because she has a problem with you looking at sexy material, but because you chose to share with the world that you have been. It gives the impression that she is a boring wife, and you’re not satisfied with her. Yes this sounds like rubbish, but think twice about the impression you give with your posts.

It is these high standards that has seen Cavalier Homes Whitsundays grow into one of the largest local employers. Michael & Clace Brady began operating Cavalier Homes Whitsundays as a husband and wife team in 2010. Now staffed by over 80 local contractors, the company completed 18 new home builds last financial year. ‘It is such a rewarding journey to participate in, working with clients as they create their new home,’ says Clace Brady. ‘We have a range of existing plans that we can provide to give inspiration, all of which we can tailor to suit our clients’ needs. Alternatively, should they have a unique concept or plan that they want to see come to life, we can build that too.’ 2013 was an impressive milestone for Cavalier Homes Whitsundays, as they opened their Style Centre in Island Drive, Cannonvale at Cumberland House. ‘It has given us a place to discuss all aspects of our clients homes, from kitchens to bathrooms to flooring‘ says Clace. ‘With colour and
options on site, our client’s can see, feel and really start to see their dream come to life, without having to travel between a number of places to make their important colour and style selections. We do it all in-house.’ Regatta Waters has sold 26 of the 49 lots in stage one and, with 18 homes currently under construction, buyers are looking to make the move as quickly as possible. With the golf driving range now open, the project is well on the way to being the next residential and recreational paradise in Airlie Beach.
Just make sure you go to a family law solicitor to properly document it so it is legally binding.

annual health check for him
annual health check for her
You keep your boots buffed until they shine, ensure your car never misses an oil change and are fastidious at ensuring your tools are in their correct place, but are you paying as much care and attention to your own health? The next time you schedule your car for its annual check, make sure you book an appointment to see your doctor. The reason for checking your car annually is to try and keep it in good enough condition to avert any major repairs. Of far more value, your body, needs the same check. By the time you start to experience symptoms, a disease may already be far advanced.
In your 30’s and 40’s
An annual physical exam is important to measure your blood pressure and cholesterol. Blood tests to screen diabetes, liver problems, thyroid disease and anemia. Screen for testicular cancer annually. You should do a self-check at least once a month to feel for abnormal lumps or pain. STD and HIV test Prostate examination approximately once every three years. Skin check: Annually to keep an eye on moles and growths. Dental: Should be checked annually.
In your 50’s and 60’s All of the above
Annual screening for Type II diabetes Screening for lipid disorders Annual electrocardiogram Vision and hearing examinations Screening for prostate and colon cancer Screening for coronary heart disease and osteoporosis. Depression can effect men of all ages. You may feel irritable or angry, tired or experience weight loss. You shouldn’t try and fight it alone, as it can be beaten with help. Take the time to speak to your GP about any health concerns you have. You only have one life, so make sure you take care of it. 52 www.corelife.com.au

You probably know how long you can go in-between your eyebrow wax, your acrylic nail back-fill or your regrowth touch-up, but do you know how long you should go in-between various health checks?
In your 20s and 30s
Breasts: Monthly self-examinations Skin: Monthly self-examinations, yearly professional examination Dental: Yearly Annual examination: Checking height and weight, blood pressure and blood tests your GP recommends Pap smear: Annually is a good idea, otherwise if you have three consecutive clear test results, you can go three years in-between tests Pelvic exam STD and HIV test Thyroid test – begins in your 30s and is usually every five years after that
In your 40s, 50s and 60s All of the above
Annual mammograms begin at 40, although may be recommended earlier if there is family history A colonoscopy is usually performed around your 50th birthday Diabetes screening Eye examination testing for glaucoma Bone density testing at 60 “If only you checked your breasts as often as you took a selfie” It’s a compelling thought that we are fascinated by how we are perceived by the world, yet when it comes to performing a simple task that may save our life, we brush it off like it’s not important.

You’ve survived dirty nappies, 4 a.m. feedings, skinned knees and pre-teen problems, so what is it about the word “teenager” that causes so much anxiety? Attitude a plenty, tears and profanity, slammed doors…oh and did we mention attitude? When you’re at the receiving end of such aggressive provocation or completely the opposite, when your tempered teen won’t even talk to you, it can be tricky to figure out the most effective parenting tactics to evolve through this stage. Unfortunately, there is no prescription to solve the issues and every teenager is different and will require different attention. Your teenager will begin to develop ideas, values and beliefs that are different to your own. This is part of the normal process of moving toward independence. While it can be incredibly frustrating, remember that they are in a confusing stage of trying to figure out exactly who they are.

They may come home with a tattoo.
During this stage there will be partying. There will be drinking. There will be sex, drugs and heavy metal. They may come home with a tattoo. As much as you don’t want to admit that your sweet child is growing up, being immersed within a range of cultures is good for their development.
Encourage friendships; let their friends visit regularly. If you make your home a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment, your teenager’s friends will feel comfortable hanging out at your home. At least you then know where they are most of the time.
If you try to stop them from experiencing such things, the likelihood of them rebelling and immersing themselves deeper in a culture you don’t approve of is higher.
Be a loving parent; adolescence is a time when teenagers often struggle with their changing sense of identity and, despite their attitude, it’s important that they always feel loved. Tell them often. Demonstrate your love using whatever physical contact they are comfortable with. Celebrate their achievements, forgive their mistakes, listen to them when they have a problem and show interest in how they plan to solve it.
Some of the best and brightest will admit to some unsavoury experimentation when they were teenagers, because curiosity is a natural part of human behaviour.
From other battle-hardened parents who have lived through the teenage rampage, here is some great advice to remember when in despair: Listen more than you speak; we are all given two ears and one mouth. This is to reiterate that we should spend twice as much time listening as talking. Teenagers will often tell us more if we are silent long enough to give them the opportunity.
Encourage sport and other outside activities; an active teen is a happier and healthier teen in general. Taking part in sports is good for young teens; physically, socially and mentally. Teenagers who are physically active or participate in out of school activities are more satisfied with their life and feel healthier.
So remember the motto of many parents with teens: We’re going through this together and we’ll come out of it together!

THE WORLD HAS STOPPED MOVING.
Today’s 10 year olds are the first generation expected to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.
Recently I set out to research an article on “Family Fitness”. I’ve been helping people with health and fitness for 20 years, but thought I should brush up a little on the latest research to find some statistics that I can throw into the article that might shock you into some action… and I came across this website:
www.designedtomove.org It’s an initiative by Nike, backed by mountains of research and, frankly, once I saw the video I was compelled to read the reports, study the site, and ultimately write this article in the hope you will be as affected as I am. The page opens with a video entitled “5 Extra Years”. Kids aged 5-10 are answering the question of what they would do if they could live an extra 5 years. Their answers are of course funny, innocent, and beautiful but the premise is horrifying:
This generation will be the first not to outlive their parents. If your kids are inactive, they will live on average 5 years less than you, 56 www.corelife.com.au
their parents. Just a few years ago, physical activity was an integral part of daily life. With “progress” we’ve chipped away at it so thoroughly that physical inactivity actually seems normal. In less than 2 generations, physical activity in the US has dropped by 32%, and by 45% in China. Machines and technology do our moving for us. What we do in our newfound leisure time doesn’t make up for the activity we’ve lost. “By the end of this decade, most Americans will exert only slightly more energy per week than if they had slept 24 hours per day” This year, physical inactivity will be attributed to more deaths than smoking – over 5 million in the US, and cost the economy more than twice the federal education budget of $147 billion dollars. I could keep reeling off the costs and statistics about how inactivity is bankrupting economies throughout the world but, once you’ve seen the video, you too will realise the only thing that matters is the health and development of our kids.
Today’s kids are dropping out of sport and play early. Between the ages of 9 and 15, American and European kid’s activity levels drop by 50-75 %. In China, 92% of kids get no physical activity outside of school.
Active kids…
• Are 1/10 as likely to be obese • Score 40% better test scores in school • Are less likely to smoke, become pregnant, engage in risky sexual behaviour or drugs • Are 15% more likely to go to tertiary education • On average learn 8% more • Save nearly 3000 per year in health costs • Reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes • Are 1/3 as likely to be disabled later in life
My strategies for getting your kids moving:
• Set the example: play sport, be active, go to the gym, walk, ride and swim yourself. • Engage them in active play as often as possible. Help them connect movement with fun. • Head to the local PCYC. They have a range of play and exercise based activities for youngsters to choose from with little expense. • Get your kids involved in sport. An obvious suggestion but also let them see you get involved by playing, umpiring, coaching or volunteering. • Walk. At every opportunity, when you have the time, park the car a little further away or leave it at home and walk with the family.
• Are much more likely to have active kids.
• Head to the park: Pick your kids up from school and head to the park. Let them run their extra energy off before heading home to the trappings of technology.
• Reasearch shows we must get our kids moving early – before the age
• Buy a trampoline
• MAY LIVE 5 YEARS LONGER
Nature designed our kids to be perpetual motion machines for a reason. As they grow, kids draw the blueprints for their adult lives. Not just their adult bodies, but their adult intellect, their adult character, emotional resilience and social skills.
• Give them the gift of new experiences. My girls absolutely loved the first time I kicked the soccer ball around with them and constantly ask me to do it again. Kids don’t know what they love doing until you show them the experience, so keep trying new things and new ways to connect activity, fun and family.
Future generations need to be running, jumping and kicking to reach their full potential. The science is clear, inactivity does more than create good health. It contributes to leadership, productivity and innovation. It lowers depression, increases education and income levels and generates return to business . It unleashes human potential and drives economies forward… We’d all like our kids, and grandchildren, to live 5 years longer.
“By the end of this decade, most Americans will exert only slightly more energy per week than if they had slept 24 hours per day”

are you having
t r o u b l e getting pregnant?
Have you done ‘all the tests’ and everything has come back normal? So what does that mean then…It means that the tests don’t tell us everything. So what is missing?
Infertility affects more and more people every year. It appears to be on the rise, dramatically. 50% of the problem lies with the female, 40% with the male and 10% is completely unexplained (or inexplicable ). But what about those people who don’t have any problems? The tests are back and all is good, but even IVF hasn’t worked. This is not an uncommon scenario. IVF Australia statistics posted an 18.1% live birth rate for 2013 and what did the Doctors have to say? Well nothing, when IVF fails it usually because you weren’t lucky that time. Does that mean when it works you did get lucky? So what has luck got to do with science? Nothing according to scientists but everything to do with Artificial Reproductive Technology (ART). Scientists suggest that provided there is a correct hormonal balance in your body you should be able to conceive. If you don’t have that balance already, science can give you drugs to make it ‘within operational guidelines’. Once that is propped up, you can then pop in a fertilised egg and keep your fingers crossed. So, why when science says that it should work just fine - it doesn’t? There are many reasons why it doesn’t. They aren’t so important to science, but they are very important to your body. Growing a baby places extraordinary strain on a woman’s body and it takes all of your body’s resources to run you on a daily basis. Do you have enough to start growing a child?
Symptoms that say something is wrong
– Irregular menstrual cycle and nothing but fresh red menstrual blood. – Painful periods, cramps and bad PMS. – Poor sleep and waking in the morning and still feel tired. – Low energy reserves and usually feeling fatigued. – Light-headed, dizzy and poor concentration. – Bloating, poor digestion and fullness and irregular bowel movements. – Dull, lingering lower back pain. – Low AMH levels (Anti-Mullerian Hormone - an ‘ovarian reserve’ indicator) If you have any (or all) of these symptoms and are still wondering why you can’t get pregnant, you may need to look past your Doctor for answers. Traditional Chinese Medicine knows that the body operates as a whole and that systems that are not working properly can and will affect other areas of the body. The symptoms mentioned above are six major categories of overall health problems that could very well be the answers to undiagnosed pregnancy disorders. This is exactly what we treat, and why we beat 18.1% live birth rate every day of the week.

She will spend time in London and then at Disneyland, Paris, where finalists from all ages and cultures join to experience the magic of feeling like a Disney princess. Charlotte began modelling with Elite Avenue Modelling Agency one year ago. Her mother, Rachael, is impressed with how much her confidence has grown over that time. She saw an advertisement calling for girls to audition for the Face of the Globe pageant and was thrilled when she received an email back confirming Charlotte was chosen as one of a few from Australia. Part of Charlotte’s experience has been to fundraise for the charity, Rainbow Child Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that prides itself on giving 100 percent of its profits to helping underprivileged children around the world. The Face of the Globe pageant supports the Rainbow Child Foundation, with the fundraising component an important part of the experience. Charlotte has an older sister, Isabelle, a younger brother, Toby and baby sister, Claire. oral health
An infant dental visit allows the dentist to help families to establish positive oral hygiene practices. The presence of obvious plaque in the mouth is a significant risk indicator for early childhood caries; pre-schoolers who have a visible accumulation of plaque at 12 months of age are significantly more likely to have early childhood caries at three years of age than children who are relatively plaque-free at 12 months.
Consistent with this finding it has been reported that children who commence tooth brushing before 12 months of age had significantly lower caries experience than children who began brushing after 13 months. It has been reported that less than half of Australian two-three year-olds had their teeth brushed twice-daily by a parent or guardian. Parents who are dentally aware and motivated are likely to begin brushing habits earlier and are likely to have appropriate preventive oral health behaviours and education levels. The most current recommendation from the Australian Dental Council is that fluoride should be used to strive for optimal caries prevention while ensuring that dental fluorosis is minimised. Fluoride-containing toothpastes should be used, regardless of whether the water is optimally fluoridated or not as an important method of further reducing caries risk. Its use should be recommended by a dentist taking into account the age of the patient, the access to fluoridated water and the caries risk. This suggests recommending the use of a small amount of adult strength toothpaste in children at high risk, as well as using other preventive products such as tooth mousse, to help reduce risk. Dental fluorosis varies in clinical presentation from thin white patches over the surface of the enamel to brown stained or pitted enamel surfaces. Special care must be taken with very young children to limit the amount of toothpaste used to avoid fluoride ingestion and possible fluorosis during enamel formation; however the risk of fluorosis should be balanced against the risk of caries development. Therefore, the parent should be informed of the potential risk of fluorosis to allow for optimum benefit but reduced side-effects of adult strength toothpaste, as research has failed to show efficacy of children’s strength toothpaste use on preventing caries. longhand benefits the brain In a world where information and technology is more readily available at the touch of a keyboard, there still is something intensely personal about writing. It is a discipline which requires a dialogue with the self, a willingness to engage in those unspoken melodies that quiet reflection inspire. There has been much debate on the use of laptops for note taking in classrooms or in private use. The pro side sees laptops as an efficient way of collecting and storing information. What’s missing is an understanding of how taking notes by longhand influences the brain. When we take notes with our laptops, we tend to mindlessly transcribe the data word for word, like speech-to-text software. But taking notes verbatim is not the point. What’s lacking in note-taking-by-laptop is the synthesis, the re-framing, and the understanding of the information. Students that transcribe with laptops have shallow connections to what’s being presented to them. However, those who are taking notes by hand are processing the information and representing it in a way that makes sense to them. They are learning.

Now, I’ll be the first to say that longhand writing is very 19th century. But we need to answer a question: Do we want students to have a deep or shallow connection to the information we’re giving them? While we live in a world of short sound bites where news is propelled at us unprocessed, this should not be the mode for schools. In the 21st century, the ability to connect knowledge in new ways is more important than the knowledge itself. So students with deeper connections to information can link it in new ways …They can create.

thoughts, stop them in their tracks, change them into positive alternatives and prevent the spread of NITs to other people.
Muting the voice of self-doubt can be difficult.
“It lifts the veil of ignorance about negative thoughts and, once mastered, the results can have a dramatic effect on every area of your life, physical, emotional and financial,” Elizabeth said.
The challenges we face in life are increasingly demanding and often lead us to question if we are doing enough. Are we making enough money? Are we fit enough? Are we successful enough? Are we raising our children well? Our internal negative chatter can leave us in a persistent state of fear and self-doubt, and often we don’t even realise it’s happening. These thoughts of self-doubt, self-criticism and lack of self-confidence are negative impulsive thoughts. Think of them as NITS. They are selfdestructive, irritating and contagious, meaning that other people’s NITS can have a detrimental effect on your life, just as severely as your own can. Local authors, Dr. John and Elizabeth McIntosh, explain how you can become the master of these negative thoughts, by identifying that they exist, and turning the negativity into positivity. The process is explained in their book, Mastering Negative Impulsive Thoughts: Secrets for a Longer, Happier Life. Our book contains effective tools and techniques to filter out negative
Launched in September, the book has already received rave reviews, including from well-respected review house, Pacific Book Review in the United States, quoting “This was an amazing read and I definitely recommend reading this book for those looking to change their lives for the better by Mastering their Negative Impulsive Thoughts.” The book has certainly been well received already in the United States, as John and Elizabeth have appeared in five talk-back radio interviews across the country and have been invited to tour their book in January, with the potential for appearances on well-knows talk shows. You can pick up your own copy locally from the GP Super Clinic. Otherwise, order your copy online from Amazon.com or download it for Kindle. Become the master of your negative impulsive thoughts, to maximise your potential and create future happiness and success. It all starts with YOU.

introducing Anthony I graduated from Macquarie University in 2009 since the beginning of my journey, as a chiropractor I have been passionate about improving everyone’s health by ensuring that the nervous system is functional so that the body’s ability to heal itself is restored. During the 5 years that I have been a chiropractor, I have been to Korea for a year to help people who are less fortunate but needed chiropractic care. Since studying Applied Kinesiology and then studying Retained Neonatal Reflexes, I have been passionate about helping children improve their health by making sure that there is no hindrance with the normal development of the child’s nervous system especially in the early stages of life. I believe that chiropractic care has incredible potential to improve the health of the community by looking after the nervous system, the system is essential for all functions in the body, in a natural and gentle way. The kids in the community will grow up healthy and strong with a vibrant smile on their faces. As a Chiropractor I am happy and excited to be able to assist and be a part of the development of the children in our community. Looking forward to meeting you very soon.

The secret is out… and the ladies love it Body hair removal was once a taboo topic for guys. It used to be reserved for the kind of man that wouldn’t change a car tyre in case they smudged their tan from a can, but now the modern man is grooming as much as his female counterpart.
And guess what, ladies love it!
Generally speaking, we prefer it when you take the time to have Aladdin’s carpet removed from your back. Before you wince at the thought of smothering your back in hot wax, you’ll be relieved to know, there is a better way! Forget the hilarious scene from the movie, the 40-year-old Virgin, where Steve Carell’s Sasquatch-like chest is turned into a bleeding man-olantern. Waxing is a thing of the past. Before you ask, the answer is yes. Ladies do appreciate it when you take the time to ‘manscape’. You don’t have to be a swimmer or a cyclist. Every bloke with unwanted hair can reap the rewards of smoother skin.
The solution you’ve been searching for is IPL.
IPL technology, otherwise known as Intense Pulsed Light, is an effective and painless hair reduction method. It causes far less discomfort and irritation than traditional hair removal methods, with no shaving nicks and significantly less ingrown hairs. IPL is available at Sensorium Skin Technology at Airlie Beach, where the secret to permanent hair reduction is reaching more men, not just models and metrosexuals. It may have taken a smidge of persuasion from his wife, but Paul Douthwaite decided to visit Sensorium to see for himself what IPL was about, and was genuinely surprised by the results.
This is what he had to say… When I arrived at the salon with my freshly shaved back I was greeted with a friendly smile and an assurance that everything was going to be ok. The procedure was relatively quick and a lot less painful than I was expecting it to be. I would liken it to someone flicking you with a rubber band, but nothing like the pain of a tattoo. The whole process took around an hour and the results were amazing. Unlike waxing or shaving where my back would break out in an itchy rash resulting in lots of in grown hairs, only for the hair to grow back just a few weeks later. I have only had a minimal amount of hair growth in small patches and my wife is wrapped. If you have ever thought about getting it done, I would highly recommend IPL. It will also keep the Misses happy, which is always a good thing!
“
“
I can honestly say that I was a wee bit concerned about the whole process as I had heard nothing but stories of pain and suffering from various sources.

Iconic Bride of the month
Hollee Hornick “Choosing a photographer for our wedding was one of our main priorities since it captures such a special occasion and provides many years of reflection. “After lots of research within the bridal photography market in Mackay and the Whitsundays, we were thrilled to be able to choose Iconic Bride to capture our special day. “We can’t speak highly enough of Norina and the professionalism of her team. They did an exceptional job without adding any unnecessary worry or stress, both in the lead up to the wedding and on the day. “They made us feel incredibly comfortable through the process, which made it easy to relax, so our natural joy was captured. “We would recommend Iconic Bride Photography for any wedding photography. The quality of the photos is evidence enough of the attention to detail they give to every wedding they shoot. “We cannot thank them enough for giving us gorgeous photos which we will treasure for a lifetime.”
Introducing Mr and Mrs Hornick…
Hollee, tell us about your dress: Couture Bridal Designer, Hilde Heim from Brisbane made my dress. What song did you walk down the aisle to? This Year’s Love, by David Gray. What is your favourite photograph from your special day? A photo incorporating the black rocks at Villa Botanica. What is your unforgettable wedding moment? When I first saw Ben as I walked down the aisle. I was able to take in the emotion of the moment. To see his happiness and love toward me was incredibly memorable. What would be your advice to brides-to-be? To make sure that you stay true to yourself when making decisions and to give yourself plenty of time to stay organized. As the time in the lead up to your wedding certainly flies by.

SMOKIN’ HOT! For our make over this month I asked Jules what make up look she would like to try. She said a smoky eye that was soft and didn’t give her panda eyes! She wanted to wear a more dramatic look without looking over done. Great for the Christmas party season. This make up can be changed up with different eyeshadows. Choose a colour that makes your eyes stand out. Thank you Jules. You have amazing skin!!!
1. Always start with a freshly primed and moisturized face. Conceal the entire lid up to the brow bone to give you a good base for your shadow to stick to.

2. Using a flat shader brush, apply a matt warm brown shade over the entire lid stopping at the socket line 3. Using a fluffy blending brush, blend the shadow up towards the brow bone
4. Use brown eyeliner line underneath the eyes and smudge it with an angle brush. Then set it by patting the same matt brown shadow we used on the lid. This also softens the line and makes the whole effect smokier.
6. Apply a liquid or gel liner, whichever you prefer, along the top lash line making sure you line all the way across 5. Using a fluffy blending brush again, lightly blend a warm ochre matt shade into the crease, blending the two colors together, making sure you don’t take the color too far up into the brow.
7. Apply plenty of your favourite mascara! Top and lower lash line.
8. 11. Contour your face with bronzer and warm up your cheeks with some blush on the apples of your cheeks.
9. To keep your eyes looking big, apply white eyeliner to your lower lash line in the waterline. If you have nice big eyes, use waterproof black eyeliner for a more dramatic look.
10. Pop on some fluttery lashes! Making sure to wait until the glue is tacky before you place them on as close as you can to the base of your lashes. Pinch your natural lashes and the falsies together to make sure they sit at the right angle.
13. I gave Jules some beachy waves and blow-dried her fringe into position.

Why use coffee?
how would you like it?
or as an Enema? As people are starting to understand the importance of cleansing and detoxing for abundant health enemas and coffee enemas are becoming more and more a topic of everyday conversation.
When did Enemas begin?
The use of enemas as a medical treatment is steeped in history. Cancer researcher Ralph Moss, PhD, writes: “The word itself comes from the Greek en-hienai, meaning to “send or inject into.” The enema has been called “one of the oldest medical procedures still in use today.” Tribal women in Africa, and elsewhere, routinely use it on their children. The earliest medical text in existence, the Egyptian Ebers Papyrus, (1,500 B.C.) mentions it. Millennia before, the Pharaoh had a “guardian of the anus,” a special doctor one of whose purposes was to administer the royal enema. The main difference between an enema and colonic is that a colonic session soaks further into the colon reaching the cecum, (or the start of the small intestine) allowing the bowel to be soaked and rehydrated in the process. An enema works typically on what is known as the Sigmoid Colon the first part of the large colon after the rectum. It also relies on the integrity of your bowel to hold the water or liquid for as long as possible before the need to evacuate occurs.
While having an enema or colonic just using filtered water is in itself a very healing modality, using additives such as coffee gives an added health boost. Dr Max Gerson first spoke of using coffee in the 1930’s for people treating cancer. In his studies he believed that the coffee stimulated the liver and gallbladder allowing more toxins to be released. This theory was supported in 1981 by Dr. Lee Wattenberg and his colleagues were able to show that substances found in coffee-kahweol and cafestol palmitatepromote the activity of a key enzyme system, glutathione S-transferase. Of course organic ground coffee is used.
How do you do it?
Having an enema kit is your first step, and then finding a quiet space and time to connect with yourself allowing your environment to be calm and relaxed.
There are three typical positions that people assume while having an enema
1) The Sims position- lying in your left side with your right knee bent 2) Lying on your back with knees bent towards your chest 3) On your knees and chest, being supported by pillows if necessary. The best position for you will be the one you find most comfortable or you might like to try all three. Most importantly you are able to find a position that allows you to hold the liquid for at least 15 minutes before it needs to be expelled.
The Benefits
Are many similar to colonic hydrotherapy, with colonics giving a deeper clean. The benefits are many, improved skin/complexion, weight loss, less bloating, less gas, less reflux, improved energy, improved libido, relieves constipation and diarrhoea, longevity and over all improved health by assisting your body to remove the unwanted toxins that we breath and live in daily. Initially, people may feel these treatments are invasive, this soon dissipates during the session when the person is comfortable and relaxed and on completion feel fabulous. The health benefits far out way temporary shyness.

Slim down for summer Is your skin ready for summer? Sunshine-filled days of summer are fast approaching, which means bathers and bronze-kissed skin, but with increased exposure to the sun, our skin is susceptible to skin cancer and showing signs of ageing.
i-lipo
8 Sessions
$900 An intelligent non invasive alternative to liposuction.
Taking preventative measures in caring for your skin is crucial for getting it ready for summer. There are simple steps to help your skin look the best it can. It starts with hydration, ensuring that you drink at least eight glasses of water every day, as well as staying away from too much caffeine and smoking. Eating nourishing foods, full of essential fatty acids, such as salmon and avocado, will create a healthy glow from your inside out. Stress can be extremely harmful to your body, and can make you look much older than you really are. By keeping your stress under control through meditation and exercise, you will be doing your skin and body a favour.
The next step is to remember your ABC.
I refer to these active ingredients as cosmetic medicines, as they have been shown to promote healthier, more refreshed, youthful skin and slow down the appearance of ageing. Vitamin A helps promote cell turnover and produce new collagen. This, over time, improves the appearance of fine lines and the overall texture and tone of the skin. Vitamin B (B5 and B3) is a skin cell regulator that improves the hydration and health of your skin cells. It gives your skin a great glow, prevents pigmentation and current studies have revealed it may be helpful in preventing skin cancer. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant which prevents toxins from damaging your skin.
Offer ends November 30th 2014
Your daily skin routine should include a high SPF sunscreen, which will help to protect you from the risk of skin cancer, as well as assist your skin with retaining its youthful dew. Once your ABC’s are under control, our team at Allure can talk you through other options available to get your skin summer-ready. Take advantage of our Skin Fit promotion, saving you 40%. We believe high-end skincare should be affordable, which is why we are including a full size Skinstitut prep pack with every Skin Fit package. You will also receive a skin evaluation, enzyme polish treatment and deluxe microdermabrasion, revealing your most beautiful skin.
