One Of England’s ‘First-Ever Gold Coins’ Found In Devon
xA metal detectorist who found England’s ‘first-ever gold coin’ is celebrating after it sold for a world record of £648,000. Michael Leigh-Mallory unearthed the coin on his first metal detecting outing in 10 years on farmland in Hemyock, Devon, last September. The King Henry III penny, struck in about 1257 by William of Gloucester with gold imported from North Africa, measures just under an inch in diameter. There are just eight of the coins in existence - with most of them in museums - and this one is thought to be the first to be found in 260 years. The discoverer was completely unaware of the coin’s incredible rarity until he posted a picture of it on Facebook and it was spotted by a specialist at Spink auctioneers, London.

Kim Kardashian And Floyd Mayweather Sued Over Promotion Of Crypto Token
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. are facing a lawsuit alleging the celebrities misled investors in their promotion of a cryptocurrency token. The lawsuit, filed 7 January in Los Angeles federal court, claims the celebrities touted tokens sold by EthereumMax, or EMAX, in order to boost its price and make themselves a profit “at the expense of their followers and investors.” “The company’s executives, collaborating with several celebrity promoters...made false or misleading statements about EthereumMax through social media advertisements and other promotional activities,” the lawsuit stated. According to the lawsuit, Kardashian promoted EthereumMax in a June 2021 post on Instagram, when she had 250 million followers.

Tom Brady Considering NFL Retirement
Scrutiny is intensifying over the future of NFL and Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar Tom Brady after his team’s 30-27 playoff loss to Los Angeles Rams all but ended their season. According to ESPN, the 44-year-old Brady - widely regarded as the greatest NFL player of all time - is ‘noncommittal’ about the prospect of playing for a further year. The publication claims he is going to take at least a month to weigh up his options. He’ll consider how he feels physically and mentally as well as the wishes of his family. He was quizzed on what the defeat means for his future but kept his cards close to his chest, saying: ‘I haven’t put a lot of thought into it. We’ll just take it day by day and see where we’re at.
20th Anniversary Of Harry Potter
The Harry Potter reunion special Return to Hogwarts, marking 20 years since the first film adaptation of JK Rowling’s game-changing and multi-multi-million-selling fantasy series about the boy wizard was released, hews as closely to the original’s aesthetic as possible from the off. Chats among the three main stars, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry himself), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), take place in the Gryffindor common room, there’s an opening set piece in the Hogwarts dining hall, Radcliffe and director of the first two films, Chris Columbus, talk in Dumbledore’s office and so on. It provides a rush of nostalgia only heightened as the enduring affection among them all becomes evident.

The Italian Village That Doesn’t Speak Italian
Nicknamed Italy’s “Little Provence,” Sancto Lucio de Coumboscuro is an isolated village in almost every sense. Situated near the border between the Piedmont region of Italy and France, visitors either need to fly to Turin, and take a train and then a bus, or drive south from Provence in order to reach it. Those who do make the trip here would be forgiven for wondering if they’re in the right country, particularly when locals bid them goodbye with the unfamiliar “arveire” rather than “arrivederci.” The official language of Coumboscuro is Provençal, an ancient medieval neo-Latin dialect of Occitan, the language spoken across the Occitania region of France. Only around 30 or so people live in the village.
The First Person To Fly In And Out Of An Active Volcano
Sebastián Álvarez, the former Chilean Air Force pilot, completed what he describes as “by far the most extreme” flight of his career: flying in and out of the crater of an active volcano. Only Álvarez wasn’t in a plane or a helicopter, he was wearing only a wingsuit. Unsurprisingly, he is the first person in history to have even attempted such a feat and says the accomplishment has taken a lifetime of preparation. “Everything started because I had the dream of flying,” Álvarez says. “Since I was a kid, I just wanted to fly -- and somehow, I made it happen.”
