The Copernicus Marine Service provides public authorities and governments with key parameters such as ocean currents and dissolved oxygen to support the monitoring of the hydrology, hydrodynamics, biogeochemistry and habitats in waters within marine protected and conservation areas. Moreover, it supports the implementation of marine directives such as Natura 2000, Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) or Maritime Spatial Planning. For example, MSFD has set up an agenda for achieving clean marine waters in Europe by 2020. In this context, sea water eutrophication and ocean noise can be monitored by each European Member State using the Copernicus Marine Service.
