Semester Summary Over the course of the semester, I learned new techniques I will take into my future architectural endeavors. Design 2 has helped sharpen my design process and how to attack assignments head on. For the following year, I will take many aspects of what I learned this year and use them beneficially. In every assigment, I took away strong new ideas and techniques carried throughout each assignment. For Project 1, I learned how to fully interpret en existing building along with its surroundings. Project 2 and the in class charrette were both outside my comfort zone considering those projects were more abstract and required in-depth thinking. The final project of the class combined both the understanding of the building and site, but also needed the creativty and “outside-the-box” thinking which I really enjoyed.

Recontruction and reiterating the case study house I chose, beneficially helped me understand dimensions, craft and flow of the house. Creating the model, recreating offical building documents and exploring new ways to view this site, helped pratice my skills in all

The ideas formulated and the design process created during this project was crucial for the rest of the semester. Project 1 and 2 constructed an entire understanding of the case study house.

Semester Reflection The spring semester of my first year in Architecture school was very drastically different than the first semester. During the first, I learned about the use of materials, explored color patterns and overall, just introduced into the program. It wasn’t until this semester that really endulged into the heavy stuff they warn you about. This semester we had real buildings to work from and were not only to think creatively, but logically as well. Having the combinations of different projects, helped teach the full design process that professional Architects follow in their practice. With each semester, we are more and more exposed to the real world of Architecture and that just makes me more and more excited for the future.
ABOUT ME
My name is Reagan Cope and I am a first year student currently attending and participating in Thomas Jefferson University’s 5-year Bachelor of Archicture program. The first year of the program I have learned more than anticipated and enjoyed myself for most of the journey. I am excited for my future and what architecture has to offer for me personally in a professional sense.
