Congratulations class of 23!

NOOSA District State High School graduating class of 2023 celebrated their final year with their school formal on 14 September. The students, dressed to the nines and looking fine, met at the Noosa Botanic Gardens for photos before heading to the Sunshine Beach Surf Club. See photo gallery on page 21.

Black Mountain residents ‘frustrated and concerned’ BY ALEX PURCELL A GROUP of Black Mountain residents from the western side of the landslide have voiced their frustrations. Eighteen months after the natural disaster isolated them from Cooroy, residents on the "wrong side of the slip" say they are exhausted – and they still have another two years to go. The Cooroy Rag met with a dozen residents at the landslip on Black Mountain

Road recently to hear their concerns. Black Mountain resident Alex McConnell said the major issues facing the affected community are communication, fire, waste and buses. “We have been asking Noosa Council for 12 months for a detailed project plan. We weren’t asking for a miracle, just a timeline, but all we’ve ever received are vague dates.” Infrastructure Services acting director Shaun Walsh said the landslide is the

largest on the Sunshine Coast in over 30 years and while there has been plenty of work happening behind the scenes to get construction started and connectivity restored, the full construction methodology and timeframes are still being finalised. “Every opportunity to accelerate the construction process will be explored, and reopening the road sooner continues to be a consideration. “Lead contractor Hazell

Bros has had an initial onsite meeting with residents immediately impacted by the proposed works. “Further contact will be made with the local community once further information about construction timing, noise, safety, and traffic management is known.” But Mr McConnell said the community now knows those dates after finding a copy of the project plan in the grass. “I found it, quite literally, in the grass at the slip.”

The documents, sighted by the Cooroy Rag, detail the start dates and duration of each stage of the reconstruction. Initial works are scheduled to start in October and will include signage, fencing, clearing of debris and vegetation, and site establishment work. Mr McConnell said a large number of residents rely on finding an alternative route around the slip to make their lives function, and are worried when construction starts

they will have only one exit. “We are facing two fire seasons before the slip is fixed and we will only have one exit. It is a death trap. “We have petitioned for traffic-controlled use of the access road they will build across the slip but we have been told no.” Mr Walsh said the safety of the community, residents, motorists, and construction workers is always the top priority. From the desk of your roaming editor I HAVE a love of old houses. I think it all started when my parents bought a run-down Queenslander on Pavillion Street in Pomona when I was a child. I watched them lovingly – and painstakingly – restore Alex Purcell, Cooroy this old girl to her former Rag Roaming Editor beauty. So perhaps it was no surprise that I would end up with my own Queenslander one day, a beautiful piece of Pomona history now almost 100 years old. When we travel, I get excited by the big old houses I glimpse nestled in valleys or perched high up on hills overlooking their properties. To get up close is a real treat. One of the perks of my husband's job is we are often invited onto such large properties. Recently, we were lucky enough to spend time on Yulgilbar Station, a 35,000-acre cattle property an hour inland of Grafton. Originally settled in 1840, Yulgilbar is home to a castle. “The Big House” as it is known, overlooks the mighty Clarence River and was built by stonemasons and builders from Germany who used 110,000 hand-made bricks. We camped alongside another gorgeous little stone cottage on the property. Also built in the 1800s, the cottage, with its close proximity to the river, was used as the laundry for “The Castle”. Properties like this, steeped in history, amaze me. If only the walls could talk.

The area will only be accessible for authorised construction personnel. Council said in the lead-up to bushfire season – in addition to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services’ local area management plan – all residents are encouraged to be prepared and have an individual plan. “Since the landslip occurred, council has communicated with Black Mountain Road residents about available community resources relating to bushfire resilience and will continue to do so.” Mr McConnell said waste and school buses are other issues that are putting pressure on the already burntout community. “We have had no kerbside bin service since the landslip but are still paying for it in our rates. “All our costs have gone up driving the detour – increased fuel costs, car wear and tear – and yet the only

compensation we get is an extension of the rates’ early payment period. “And school buses don’t come up here anymore either. If you have kids or travel for work it is a nightmare.” Council said the safety of the detour is an important consideration and as such, large vehicles such as trucks and school buses cannot safely use the detour via the western side of Black Mountain Road. “We acknowledge the inconvenience this creates for residents and have been working to find alternative solutions,” Mr Walsh said. Waste collection services are still being provided at the waste corral near Andersons Road. A Cleanaway spokesperson said following several safety assessments, the road is currently deemed unsafe for collections. “The safety of our employees and the community is paramount and a foundation of Cleanaway.” But Mr McConnell said no safety audits have been supplied and the safety of trucks is inconsistent with the trucks and heavy machinery that currently do use Black Mountain

West,“whether building materials, council road maintenance vehicles or reconstruction contractor working on the bookend slips”. “We are a unique precinct that requires a unique solution. How better to test the ‘values’ in council’s draft waste management plan as they have stated.” In regards to school buses, council said Translink is continually provided with updates about impacts on school bus services, and residents should contact Translink about school bus options. A Translink spokesperson said, following the landslide Translink consulted with all impacted families and the school bus operator to ensure as minimal as possible disruption to school bus services. “Students residing in the Black Mountain Road area to the west of the landslide can access the school bus at nearby Federal State School, which is a temporary interchange point due to the landslide. “From there the P743 continues on to service students residing on the eastern side of the landslide along Black Mountain Road to their enrolled school.

The group of Black Mountain residents at the landslide.

“This temporary arrangement to the P743 school service was reassessed once it was known the road closure was likely to be in place until at least June 2024. “It was determined there were no other viable options available that would enable the original route to continue, and the temporary arrangement will remain in place until the road reopens.” Translink said it appreciates the inconvenience this has caused; however, the safety of school children on its network is paramount.

“Translink will continue to work closely with Noosa Shire Council to ensure that the school service will resume its usual route in a safe and timely manner.” With work expected to start on the landslide next month, Mr Walsh said council “appreciate the residents’ patience and acknowledge this will be a lengthy construction process". Mr McConnell said the community just wants them to immediately start the job. “The biggest problem to face the community and 400 days later there is still no turn of a shovel and unfortu-

nately everything has been negative. “But there is still time to fix this. We remain desperate for council to sit down with us and work out how we can best achieve a win-win pathway for the next phase of this recovery journey. “The upside to all this is it has brought the community together. It is an amazing community up here.” Council has a dedicated website to provide updated information relating to the landslide and construction activities at yoursay.noosa. qld.gov.au/black-mountain-landslide.

NEARLY $10,000 worth of fence panels and two gates have been stolen from the Cooroy playground. The 27 powder-coated fence panels were removed from their posts at the Hinterland Adventure Playground on a Sunday night earlier this month. Noosa Council Infrastructure Services acting director Shaun Walsh said staff found them missing after a routine inspection. "It's quite obvious that whoever took the equipment would have needed a utility or trailer. "Fence panels are expensive and easily tradeable on the market, so we suspect that is why they may have been taken. "We really need the community's help so if anyone has any CCTV footage or

saw anything, please contact Policelink 131 444 or Crimestoppers." Cooroy Police acting officer in charge Allan O'Neill said they are currently investigating this theft and another of landscaping rocks from a Cooroy property. "A load of ornamental boulders/large landscaping rocks was also taken from the Old Strawberry Patch on Cooroy Noosa Road. “The theft is believed to have occurred between 7 and 8 September, possibly any time during the evening, though it may have occurred sometime in the last seven days from these dates. "It is strange that both these thefts were of landscaping supplies. Perhaps someone in the community has noticed something?"

Mr Walsh said such a senseless and blatant act has a profound impact on the community. "It's not just the disruption to the playground and the potential risk to safety for those using the facility, but also the time and effort for our staff to carry out the repairs. "This is likely to be close to a $10,000 cost for council and something that is completely unnecessary. "Our staff are looking at some temporary measures to ensure the safety of playground users; however, we hope to have a replacement fence in place within a few weeks," Mr Walsh said. Council estimates vandalism to public infrastructure costs the community about $60,000 annually.

AN application by Kin Kin Quarry operator Cordwell Resources Pty Ltd to clear over eight hectares of vegetation at its extraction site has been opposed by Noosa Council. Council has provided a submission to the federal government relating to the application, which was handled under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Mayor Clare Stewart said council had no assessment role regarding the vegetation clearing application. “While the application for clearing is within the existing quarry footprint, council has serious concerns regarding impacts to threatened flora and fauna species, including koalas, greater gliders and scrub turpentine.” Mayor Stewart said

council took the view that the clearing is considered a controlled action due to the significant impact on endangered and critically endangered species. “This has been clearly articulated in our submission so it can be considered by the federal government in its assessment of the Cordwell application. “We’re aware members of our community have also made submissions on this matter,” she said. Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is calling for residents to join him and Cr Stewart. “Koalas are an iconic Australian native species, and the decline of their population is of great concern. “I am writing to the minister responsible for the Environmental Protection Biodiversity and Conservation Act, Tanya Plibersek,

to convey the community’s strong concerns about the proposal and the urgent need to protect the natural habitat of endangered species. “I’m encouraging everyone to join me, and Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart, in writing to Minister Plibersek to request that the minister carefully examine the vegetation clearing proposal and protect the local habitat of these precious flora and fauna species from destruction. “The minister must listen to the community and make the best decision in the interests of protecting and conserving Noosa’s endangered koala population and other threatened flora and fauna species,” he said. Minister Plibersek can be contacted by emailing Minister.Plibersek@dcceew. gov.au.

Audrey celebrates her 100th birthday with family and friends at Sconetime.

THERE were 100 reasons to celebrate at Sconetime in the Cooroy Memorial Hall this month but the biggest was Audrey Hull’s 100th birthday. The regular Sconetime senior celebrated her centenary with family, friends, scones, tea and a special cake. Daughter Barbara Clack said Audrey grew up in Ballarat with her parents and older sister, and as a schoolgirl she learned ballroom dancing. “She wanted to study maths and science because she would have liked a career in medicine but those subjects weren’t available to girls.” As a teenager, Audrey continued her ballroom dancing, later becoming a teacher at the dance school. “When the war broke out in 1939, the girls at her school were assigned war effort duties on a fortnightly roster and one of Mum’s jobs was to make the metal bases for bombs on an assembly line.” On leaving school, Audrey moved to Melbourne to board at teachers’ college and later, when working as a teacher in Ballarat, she met Roy Clack at a weekly barn dance.

“Dad was an excellent dancer, a competitive gymnast (vaulting and parallel bars), and a lawn bowls champion. He also coached and played baseball.” The couple married in 1949 and Audrey became a stepmother to six-yearold Jennifer. They went on to have Peter, Pauline, Linda and Barbara, living in her family home with her parents. “Tragically their very happy marriage ended when Dad passed away in 1966, only six weeks after a cancer diagnosis.” To support her five children, Audrey returned to work as a kindergarten teacher. After joking with her friend about running away to the remote Ord River, an advertisement for an outback bus tour caught Audrey’s eye in 1972. “After farming all us kids out to friends, she set off across the Nullarbor, up the Gunbarrel Highway in WA, arriving from the west to Uluru then Alice Springs. “On the bus, she met Mal Hull. They married in 1972 and set off on a road trip to Darwin and when in Alice Springs they purchased three adjoining blocks of land with old houses, with

a plan to build a budget motel.” For the next decade, Audrey and Mal developed the motel they called Toddy’s and afterwards, Audrey and Mal finally had time to explore their beloved outback, travelling to the remote parts of every state in Australia. In 2002 the couple moved to Queensland. “Soon after arriving, Mal suffered a blood clot in his leg that required extensive and ongoing surgery. That didn’t stop the adventures though and they went off again with a wheelie walker on board. “They lived in Cooroy for a while, then Tewantin, and ultimately Mal lost his leg and had to go into care. “That didn’t stop Mum though and in 2018 she checked him out of the nursing home and took him on a cruise, only to find when she got back that she had been suffering from heart failure the whole time.” Ms Clack said Audrey may not venture as far these days since they lost Mal in 2021 but her horizons are still broad. “Her creative spirit is as strong as ever and she enjoys keeping watch over nature in her surroundings.”

Traditional hearing aids allow these sounds to enter at full force. This stresses the noise reduction system, forcing it to inefficiently reduce a broader range of frequencies than necessary. This leads to a reduction of both the interfering sounds and the important ones, resulting in unclear speech. Featuring double-patented technology, the Wind and Handling Stabiliser in Oticon Real™ detects and cleans up noise from both the wind and the hearing aid being touched. It selects the microphone with the cleanest sound input, preventing disruptive sound from entering the

system. It then reduces the remaining noise from the other microphone efficiently and only in the frequencies affected by the noise. This provides a cleaner sound, helping you receive better access to speech in windy environments. We invite you to a free trial^ of Oticon Real™ hearing devices. Pomona pool.

A PINBARREN resident is calling for Pomona’s swimming pool to be opened to the public. Debbie Campbell said the pool is very important to the community. “It is not only important for country kids to have access to Pomona pool for water safety, fitness and recreation, it is also important for all ages, including the elderly, to have aqua aerobics, lap swimming during both summer and winter, and recreational use in holidays and weekends during summer. “At the moment, people have to travel to the Sunshine Coast council pool in Eumundi for aqua aerobics. “Hinterland residents are forced to waste fuel on travelling for fitness or to the beach for swimming during summer. It is not acceptable at all.” The pool, on the grounds of Pomona State School, has been closed to the public for a number of years. Submissions for a suitably qualified person(s)/organisation to apply to operate the pool were opened in 2021. The hiring agreement, according to the Department of Education at the time, covered the provision of community recreational swimming and community programs outside of school operating hours. “Back in the day, the community were expected to run

the pool with volunteers, or then at a loss,” Ms Campbell said. “Nowadays with insurance etc., it is too much for the community to take on themselves. “I met with Noosa Council councillors last year and explained we need the pool open for not only fitness, health and wellbeing but also our mental health. However Noosa Council seems to think someone in our community can do it and run at a loss if we are that concerned. “They told me they didn’t believe there was enough interest by the community to warrant them taking on the lease for their hinterland constituents. “But why should we? “Noosa Council have been asked to take it on and provide water safety, lap swimming and aqua classes from their Noosa Aquatic Centre staffing pool to their hinterland constituents.” Noosa Council Community Services director Kerri Contini said the Department of Education owns the Pomona State School pool; therefore the school is responsible for community access through appointing a new operator (lessee). “Should the school be successful in engaging an operator who is willing to provide community access outside of school times, council will

make a $10,000 contribution available to the operator to help offset some of the operational costs. This practice is consistent with council’s actions in previous years. “Operating a pool is costly and complicated and the low level of community utilisation over recent years has eroded the confidence of prospective operators in the viability of the operation. There are significant health and safety obligations on pool operators, which are very different from decades ago. A number of people have approached the school to enquire about operating the pool; however they have not proceeded with a formal offer. “In the meantime, council is pleased to support a number of other aquatic facilities in the shire, which the community can readily access. These include the Tewantin and Cooroy school pools – both also recipients of a $10,000 contribution from council in exchange for providing community access – and the Noosa Aquatic Centre, the shire’s flagship aquatic facility which council proudly owns and operates. The Noosa Aquatic Centre offers a wide range of programs and classes. “Council does not have the resources to directly operate the Pomona pool,” Ms Contini said.

Couple dive into pool shop

The family team at Hinterland Pool Services.

POMONA has a new pool services business. Cooroy couple Josh and Cassie Burke have opened Hinterland Pool Services in Station Street. Cassie said Josh has been involved in the pool industry

for over 10 years. “Josh grew up on the Sunshine Coast but originally started in the industry when we lived in NSW. “We moved to Cooroy two years ago and have had our own pool service business

since then but because a large base of our service run is in the Noosa hinterland, we decided to change the name of our business from Noosa Platinum Pool Services to better suit our business and support our local community.” Cassie said Hinterland Pool Services provides everything after a pool has been built. “This includes free water analysis, pool servicing and maintenance, chlorinator, pump, cleaner and robotic repairs, pool heating, lights and equipment installations.” Josh’s uncle Perry is also involved in the family-run business. “Perry has been in the industry for over 20 years, also starting down in NSW, and now here in the Noosa hinterland.” Cassie said they are very excited to be opening a retail pool shop with a combined knowledge of over 30 years of experience. “We believe it is most important to provide honest, friendly and expert advice to ensure that our clients are most satisfied.” Hinterland Pool Services opened its doors at Shop 3A, 3 Station Street, Pomona last week. Drop in and say hello to Josh, Cassie and Perry at the shop, call 07 5479 3865 or email hinterlandpoolser vices@gmail.com.

For the love of pest control

Jamie Harrison from C&C Pest Control checking a termite trap.

AFTER being asked numerous times over the past decade why he hadn’t started his own business, local pest controller Jamie Harrison has finally taken the leap. The Pomona resident has launched C&C Pest Control, serving the hinterland communities he lives in and loves. Jamie said starting his own business has fulfilled a long-term vision to be his own boss. “I love doing pest control and always have. I started off in the industry as a much

younger man, 27 years ago.” Jamie then spent more than a decade working as a pest controller in South Australia. “I also did some fly-in flyout remote pest control and termite work in the Outback, which I really enjoyed. “I also worked on a military base in the NT putting in termite barriers and serviced remote Aboriginal communities as well, before moving back to Queensland in 2008.”

Jamie moved to Pomona after the 2011 floods and then worked for over a decade at a large multinational pest control company and finally, as a service manager at Cooroy Pest Control. Jamie said in the 27 years he’s been in the industry he has treated just about every type of pest. “I’ve treated everything from birds to bed bugs and we offer all pest control services from rodents to termites including bees, wasps, fleas, mozzies – everything basically. “Here on the Coast, termites are a big issue so we specialise in doing termite inspections, termite treatments for live termites, ongoing monitoring and baiting station installations, and treatments around homes using termiticides.” Jamie said he has the philosophy that when treating clients’ homes and businesses, he does so as if it were his own. “With C&C Pest Control, it is the service that clients expect they will get. Our family has a long history of helping out in the community, and as a local business we’ll continue to do the same.” Contact Jamie at C&C Pest Control on 5417 8194 or visit candcpestcontrol. com.au.

Cooroy farm’s beef and beer businesses

Scott, Adele and Shane.

ONE Cooroy property, two unique businesses. Scott and Adele Frew bought 375 acres on Cooroy Belli Creek Road in 2019 with the plan to move onto it and build a regenerative farming practice with a focus on using cattle to bury carbon with the output being beef. Today, the property is a regeneratively farmed beef and honey farm and home to the Sunshine Coast’s first and only farm-based beer brewery. Scott said both Belli Beef

and Wild Barrel were born out of their need to do their bit for the planet. “We have travelled to both the poles and could see with our own eyes how the accelerating climate crises were impacting the ice packs and decided we need to do our bit for the planet, even if it is small. “Belli Beef is a boutique cattle farm where we use the cattle to sequester carbon back into the soil by rotationally grazing them. “We do not use industrial fertilisers, chemicals or

poisons on the farm and we reseed the paddocks every year with a mix of at least 12 seeds (grass and legumes). “So far we have distributed over 1,000 tonnes of organic chicken manure compost across the paddocks, planted over 2,000 trees, converted all petrol pumps to solar for the cattle troughs, upgraded the fencing, dug 3.5 km of contours to stop fertility running off the farm to the Great Barrier Reef, and also installed 30 kVA of solar arrays to power

business the farm.” Scott said with their regenerative journey underway, a young professional brewer moved closer, triggering a perfect storm to create Wild Barrel, a truly unique beer. “Wild Barrel was built on a lead-up of random events. Shane Kent was looking to create unique brews using organic ingredients and locally caught yeasts then barrel ageing for differing times to produce beer ‘vintages’. A connection was made through his partner who worked for me previously in one of my start-ups and they coincidentally moved to Lake Macdonald not long after we started on the farm.” Scott said Wild Barrel is for people who enjoy a unique beer experience, and Belli Beef provides chemical-free, grass-fedand-finished beef directly to the customer. “With Wild Barrel, every vintage will have something different rather than ‘same same’. It will be enjoyed like a bottle of wine, and given there are only 200 or so bottles per barrel, once that vintage is gone, it can never truly be repeated. “With Belli Beef our local customers, with a bit of planning, don’t have to buy meat from massive supermarkets that supply meat from long distances (carbon for transport); from cattle

kept in feedlots (negative for climate change); fed using grains (particularly soya) where growers wipe out all flora and fauna liberally spraying glyphosate (Round Up); and that have chemical and industrial fertiliser inputs. “Whilst we know grain-fed meat is fattier and more tender generally, grass-fed/ grass-finished is better for their health (amino acid count) and better for the planet.” Both businesses are now up and running, with meat and honey available for purchase from the Belli Beef website, and Wild Barrel delivered its first barrel-aged beer release orders earlier this month. Scott said while Belli Beef is continuing the development of the farm, Wild Barrel is upgrading its brewing capacity. “We appreciate the agreement with Noosa Council to allow us to house a brewery for the first time on a farm rather than in an industrial estate but the limitation is we can’t have a tap room. “So future plans will be to move the front of the house to a location where locals and tourists alike can visit the beautiful hinterland and have a truly unique beer in a truly unique location.” Visit Belli Beef at bellibeef. com.au and Wild Barrel at wildbarrel.com.au.

Cooroy Collaborates networking night THE Cooroy Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is holding its very first Cooroy Collaborates event on Wednesday 27 September from 5:30 pm. CCC spokesperson Ashlynn Gordon said the event to be held on the Emerald Street strip is the perfect opportunity for local business people to network and develop new connections within the community. “On the evening, we will be showcasing three fantastic local businesses: Fika Cafe, Galah Home, and Countryside Realty – all located on the Emerald Street strip. “This will give attendees the opportunity to connect with the owners of each of these businesses and gain an insight into their success, while also sharing a bit about their business or professional journey.” Register for this free event at getsafeticket. com.au/4kz0v.

See the cars on show at the 2023 Cooroy Car Show.

Originally an all-Holden club, the club now welcomes all makes and models of vehicles and machinery. What started as a small display of club vehicles, the CCCC’s annual car show has grown into a popular event on the car show calendar, welcoming over 200 vehicles. All makes and models from classic, custom, vintage, muscle, hot rods, rat rods and modern are welcome for display, and a traditional Show & Shine with almost 40 trophy categories has been maintained. This year, there will

also be free children’s entertainment, local food vendors and a coffee van, and three decades of photographs showing the history and evolution of the CCCC – from members renovating the clubhouse in 1993 (which was Johnson House, a former wing of the Greenslopes Repat Hospital in Brisbane) to hosting FXFJ Nationals, motorkhanas on the current RV stopover site, club runs, events and socials. A photo of Mount Cooroora by Peta Hempsall

A POSITIVE-ONLY Facebook page is connecting the people of Pomona. Fourth-generation Pomona resident Peta Hempsall started the People of Pomona Facebook page in April 2016. Peta said using the Humans of New York Facebook page as inspiration, she initially started the page so the community could get to know local residents better. “But I then decided to make it a page of positivity. A place for people to share their positive stories and photos of the local area from now or the past.” Peta said the page has grown steadily over the years and what she finds most surprising is that a lot of the people who follow the page don’t actually live in the area. “They may have at one time of their lives but may not have been back for several years. So I feel really good that we can provide them with updates or photos on what Pomona and the local areas are like now, as they may not ever have the opportunity to come back. “And I’ve even had messages and comments from people overseas. One lady stumbled across the page as she thought it was about Pomona in the USA but she loved looking at all the photos and

listening to the stories so much that she continued to follow it.” An avid photographer, Peta recently started a new Photo Friday post to provide locals with the opportunity to share images of what has caught their eye. “Pages no longer let the followers post directly onto them, and I do have people private messaging me with questions and photos that I love sharing, but I thought it was easier for the public to share their images in a comment section. It also helps people connect or reconnect with people who may not live here anymore. Maybe a conversation starter?” Anyone can share an image and quality doesn’t matter as long as it’s something that has caught someone’s eye, has made them smile, or is positive in some way. “The page is for positivity. There is a lot of negativity on social media and I’ve read that pages or groups that show negative stories are more likely to get attention but I’m not worried about going viral – all I hope is that I can bring a little happiness to someone,” Peta said. See the People of Pomona Facebook page at: facebook. com/peopleofpomonaqld.

THIS month’s Noosa Parks Association’s Friday Environment Forum is designed for the whole family and will incorporate hands-on activities for the young and young-at-heart. The Noosa Environmental Education Hub (EEHub), led by Dalia Mikhail, engenders the next generation of environmental custodians by providing engaging opportunities for real-life education. Noosa EEHub programs provide students with an opportunity to work alongside our region’s environmental experts on real-life projects.

With localised student learning through programs such as bushfires in the biosphere, students are taught about the traditional use of fire for land management, fire behaviour, and how local ecosystems respond to fire. The group also facilitates the Noosa Youth Advocacy Group which provides a voice for our region’s youth. Participants at the Friday Environment Forum on 29 September will learn how everyone can be custodians of place through the engaging programs avail-

able for young people. Explore the Oyster Gardening Project baskets and the critters that inhabit them, in this hands-on activity as part of the forum.   Everyone is welcome at the NPA Environment Centre, 5 Wallace Drive, Noosaville. The forum starts at 10:30 am and morning tea is available from 10 to 10:25 am. Free admission. Donations of $5 are welcome by ‘tap & go’ at the door. THE Tinbeerwah Art Group’s (TAG) annual art show has raised $2,000 for Katie Rose Cottage Hospice. The show, held at the Tinbeerwah Hall recently, was the “biggest and most successful ever”. TAG Art Show coordinator Jan Cooke said more than 130 guests packed the hall on the opening gala night to meet the artists and enjoy bubbles and canapes. “Lorraine Kypiotis, head of Undergraduate Studies at the National Art School Sydney, opened the show and spoke of the importance of art in the community. “Jack Connolly presented the Margaret Connolly Hanger’s prize, in memory of his late wife Margaret, to Vivien Lawson; and the People’s Choice prize was awarded to Mary Zouglakis.”

About the program

If you wish to gain the skills to manage depression and/or anxiety more effectively in a supportive environment, this program may be useful for you.

The CBT (Depression and Anxiety) Day Program provides a very specific mindfulness-based CBT skill set to manage anxiety and depression. Program Content • Understanding anxiety and depression • Understanding the CBT model • How to identify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that perpetuate anxiety and depression and replace them with new ones • Learning to respond to unpleasant thoughts, feelings or situations rather than react. • Become aware of warning signs for low mood/anxiety and developing an action plan. • A group setting is an ideal place to learn and practice these skills, because it offers a safe and supportive environment.

When is it held? The CBT (Depression and Anxiety) Day Program is a half day program which will run for three hours with a set time. Morning tea and lunch is provided.

How much does it cost? You will be admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim the cost via your health fund. All funds have different rules. Eden Private Hospital Day Program staff will advise of any applicable out-ofpocket excess or gap costs that you may incur.

Eden’s R U OK? Day BBQ Date Loaf Recipe BY CWA Cooroy member

Eden Private Hospital’s barbeque lunch for R U OK? Day.

EDEN Private Hospital is proud to support R U OK? Day. The mental health and rehabilitation hospital in Cooroy supported the national day of action with a barbeque lunch on 14 September. Eden Private Hospital’s Director of Clinical Services, Matthew Rowe, said with Eden being a mental health and rehabilitation hospital, R

U OK? Day is a highlight in its calendar. “Every day is the day to ask ‘Are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever you spot the signs that someone you care about might be struggling with life. “The R U OK? campaign has given many Australians the critical confidence and skills to become a help-giver

to those struggling with life, and positively contribute to suicide prevention efforts around the country. “This year we encourage everyone to be an instigator of action, every day, and ensure that the meaning of R U OK,? Day isn’t lost.” Matthew said you don’t need to be a mental health expert to participate, just a good friend and a great

listener. “Ask ‘R U OK?’ Listen and encourage action and then check in. The amazing humans at R U OK? have crafted plenty of accessible and easy-to-follow guides to help anyone reach out. They can be found at ruok.org.au/ how-to-ask. “Let’s get out there and start having these important conversations.”

Pretty in pink for a good cause Dentist talks flossing OCTOBER is Australia’s breast cancer awareness month and Pink Up Cooroy is encouraging locals to join them as they rally behind an incredible cause. On Friday 20 October, all proceeds from the Pink Up Cooroy fundraiser breakfast will be donated to support the McGrath Foundation. A gold coin from the sale of each schnitzel meal throughout October at the Cooroy Hotel, Cooroy RSL, and Your Mates Bowls Club will also go towards the fundraiser. The McGrath Foundation currently funds 200 McGrath Breast Care Nurses across Australia who have provided care and support to over 123,000 families since 2005. Pink Up Cooroy fundraiser breakfast organiser Carol Christensen said McGrath Breast Care Nurses stand by the sides of women and men facing breast cancer, from diagnosis to treatment and beyond. “A breast cancer journey reshapes lives in unexpected ways, touching not only the individual but their loved ones too. It’s a battle that changes everything.

“The McGrath Breast Care Nurses are there free of charge and without the need for a referral, offering support to both patients and their families. “They bring peace of mind through expert knowledge, personal care and genuine compassion. “Together, let’s raise funds, awareness, and hope for all those affected by breast cancer, and help the McGrath Foundation reach its goal of 250 Breast Care Nurses by 2025 – a major milestone to ensure that no one misses out on this type of care.” The fundraiser breakfast will feature raffles and a live auction, a delicious breakfast, an inspirational speaker, a fashion parade with a difference, and prizes for the best-dressed in pink. “Thank you to the large number of businesses that have donated to our prize pool for the event. It’s always so heartwarming to see the generosity of the Cooroy business community,” Carol said. Tickets to Pink Up Cooroy fundraiser breakfast are limited. Purchase tickets for $50 from getsafeticket. com.au/mjyw4.

complex and destructive it becomes. “Our plaque’s unique ecosystem is like a major city, and brushing is like Godzilla destroying the infrastructure. But plaque bacteria can rebuild infrastructure fairly quickly, which is why we brush frequently. “Brushing, however, isn’t very effective at cleaning in between your teeth. And it’s the plaque that remains in these areas that leads to most cavities and gum disease. So that’s where flossing comes in – to clean between the teeth.” Arosha said to clean effectively, people need to floss at least once a day and floss before brushing so it becomes part of the routine. “Cut 30–40 cm of regular floss for each use and wrap most of it around the finger of one hand and 23 cm around the finger of another then slowly move the floss towards the gums to ensure both teeth are clean. “Flossing can take some time to master. But the more someone flosses, the faster and better they’ll become. “Some people may have different-sized gaps between their teeth, and we have special tools that look like Christmas tree brushes and rubber toothpicks that may work better,” Arosha said.

Annual General Meeting NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN FOR THE NOOSACARE INC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2023

A LOCAL dentist said patients often ask if they need to floss their teeth. Tewantin Family Dental owner and dentist Dr Arosha Weerakoon said her patients often ask whether they still need to floss even though they brush their teeth. “The answer is – that depends. “A review of the research on this topic found flossing, combined with regular brushing, reduced the chance of bleeding gums. However, the review could not provide evidence flossing prevented holes (tooth cavities) from forming. “This is likely because all of the included studies were conducted within one-tothree-month periods. A few months is long enough to detect bleeding gums, but not for cavities (holes in teeth) to grow substantially. “But we know regular flossing protects our gum health, which in turn protects our teeth. So it’s definitely worth doing. The advice may be different if you have certain dental conditions.” Arosha said cavities and gum disease are mainly caused by plaque, a collection of different types of bacteria that grow on our teeth and affect our gums. The longer we allow plaque bacteria to grow, the more

NDSHS Pomona Campus students excelled at this year’s Opti-MINDS challenge.

NOOSA District State High School (NDSHS) Pomona Campus has excelled at this year’s Opti-MINDS challenge. The campus stood out at the renowned Opti-MINDS 2023 challenge, which empowers participants to think, create and communicate. This year, which marked an impressive 22-year legacy of NDSHS’s active participation in this event, was hosted at Caloundra Christian College on 26

August. The heart of this year’s competition lay in empowering characters or marginalised voices within texts that had long been silent. Students summoned their creative brainstorming abilities with only a few weeks of preparation, which resulted in theatrical performances. Among the stars of the event, NDSHS’s Team 2 garnered victory, clinching the title in Division 2 Language Literature. Mean-

while, Team 1 showcased exceptional aptitude, earning well-deserved honours for their contribution as well as the Spirit of Opti-MINDS award for their positive, respectful and enthusiastic involvement throughout the day. Students transformed everyday items into artistic props, all while adhering to a budget of $50. The performances took place within a modest 3 x 3 m space and a 10-minute time limit.

Black Mountain Rural Fire Brigade supervises a burn-off.

By Black Mountain Rural Fire Brigade first officer Harry Kirk WE may be volunteers but we call ourselves “the unpaid professionals”. We train regularly to get to know our vehicles, our equipment and the people we work with. An example of our training is that we go out and help landowners to do stack burns. This gives the newer members and the experienced members practical knowledge and a refresher of drip torches (fire starting tools), hoses and nozzles, and working as a team. When you are lighting a fire to burn (like a stack of garden waste), you need to apply for a permit if the stack is 2 x 2 x 2 metres or over. Even if you are doing a small fire, it is best to let

your neighbours know that you intend to light one because: 1) they will thank you for letting them know; 2) if it looks close to your house there will be a concern and they will call triple zero; and 3) we as a brigade, will not be unnecessarily called out. To look for your fire warden, go online to ‘fire warden finder’, which will take you to a map and you can zoom in on where you live. This will give you fire warden phone numbers for your area. Rural fire brigades, as well as other organisations, are always looking for new members. So if you are looking for something to do – we are all here waiting. The fire season is on us now. Have a plan. Please take care.

Luke with a red belly black snake.

SNAKE season has started with a bang, and local snake catcher Luke Huntley said he has been very busy. “The boys are out looking for the girls and the weather is warming up fast. The last few weeks I’ve been very busy. I got a decent-sized eastern brown snake the other day. There will be plenty this season with the drier weather.” Luke, from Snake Catcher Noosa, said snakes have to drink water and with this season being much drier than this time last year, there will be more snakes out looking for water as it continues to dry out and warm up. “Bushfires and droughts are what we’re heading into for a while. The snakes will do their normal thing; they’ll just have to find water more this season so keep an eye out. “If you have any questions or need a snake relocated you can always call me and my teammate. We’re always happy to help 24/7. Call me on 0499 920 290.”

Joe Jurisevic Councillor for Noosa Shire THE one thing about council is the variety of issues that come before us to deal with on behalf of the community. There’s never a dull moment, with this month no exception. Vandalism usually takes the form of graffiti or damage to community infrastructure, but I was stunned and disappointed to find out that thieves had decided their needs outweighed that of the Cooroy community, with the brazen theft of 27 powder-coated fencing panels and gates from the Cooroy hinterland adventure playground last week. It is estimated that vandalism costs in the vicinity of $60,000 per year to rectify community assets that become the target of senseless acts, but theft on this scale obviously required some planning to arrange to remove the panels and transport them away. Council has reported the matter to the police and is arranging to replace the panels and restore the fencing as soon as possible. If

anyone has any information, please contact the police. Repair work of a different kind should commence this month with the letting of the contract for the repair of Black Mountain Rd following the significant landslip that washed away a large portion of that road. The flood recovery effort has come at a significant cost, not only to replace, but also to the residents who have been impacted by this event. The Black Mountain community has been very patient while the complex task of designing and engineering repair works has been undertaken. The flood recovery effort for this project and a number of others across the shire are being delivered thanks to assistance from the Commonwealth–State disaster recovery funding arrangements, administered by the Queensland Construction Authority. It’s a timely reminder that storm and fire seasons are once again fast approaching. Council’s Local Disaster

Management Group will be meeting again this Friday to ensure that all agencies are prepared. During a fire or significant weather event, your safety depends on your preparations and the decisions you make. Each property should have its own plan in place to ensure the safety of members of your household or business in case of an emergency. Please make sure you have a plan in place and review it with your family now to know exactly what you can do to protect yourselves and your property and be prepared. Keep an eye on weather, road, power and a raft of other information at any time through council’s disaster dashboard: disaster.noosa. qld.gov.au. Joe Please send us your letters to the editor. Clare Stewart Noosa Mayor NOOSA Council strongly welcomes a speed reduction to 40 km/h on a section of Teewah Beach. The new speed limit will be in place for the September school holidays. This reduction in speed follows extensive consultation with residents and significant lobbying by Noosa Council to Queensland police and transport officials who have supported council’s call for the speed to be reduced. The reduced speed limit is for the beach area adjacent to Teewah residential village and extends for about 1.5 kilometres along the beach. More equipment and proactive mitigation measures are ensuring Noosa is well-prepared for the coming bushfire season. Council has bolstered its fire mitigation capabilities with two fitfor-purpose LandCruisers taking fleet numbers to five light attack vehicles. Similarly, council now has 16 staff nationally accredited in fire management. These staff are available to support Queensland Fire and Emergency Services

in the event of a wildfire burning on council-managed land or directly threatening council land. This year, with the support of our dedicated in-house fire management officer, we have undertaken four burns on council-owned bushland reserves in Cooroibah, Pomona, Ringtail Creek and Weyba Downs, and assisted Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services with two burns along the Noosa Trail Network. The extra work is encouraging for residents, given the threats of fires and prediction of potentially intense fires this spring. In great news for our community, we’ve officially opened the $1.95 million Olive Donaldson Pavilion at Noosa District Sports Complex at Tewantin. It includes four change rooms, a kitchen, six unisex toilets, storage space, first aid and umpire rooms and a large multi-purpose area. The multi-purpose area accommodates two undercover pickleball courts. Several sports clubs currently based at the complex, including Tewantin

Noosa Cricket Club, Noosa District Netball Association and Noosa Beach Classic Car Club, will benefit. It will also welcome new sports such as pickleball to the site. Finally, we’re seeking your feedback on a discussion paper about the way Noosa is managed as a destination. The conversation starter will help to shape a destination management plan for Noosa. A destination management plan is a blueprint for protecting a community’s key values, while guiding the evolution of a tourism industry. It considers the interests of all stakeholders. There are residents and families who depend on tourism for their livelihoods, but the visitor economy and shire need to be managed in a way that respects the qualities that have made Noosa such a sought-after place to live, visit and invest in. It’s your town and it’s your voice and we want to hear from you. The Discussion Paper and survey can be downloaded at: yoursay.noosa.qld. gov.au. Clare

Llew O’Brien Federal Member for Wide Bay THE Albanese Government’s implementation of 60-day dispensing has been an absolute shambles, with a general lack of clarity on the new guidelines. The Coalition supports 60-day dispensing and Australians having access to cheaper medicines, but the Albanese Government’s rushed policymaking is putting our healthcare access at risk. I recently spoke in Parliament about the inadequate consultation from the government with community pharmacists before it announced this policy, and the government refused to model the potential flow-on impacts it could have on patients, particularly the most vulnerable. Medical practice software updates are defaulting to the 60-day option, which has led to a surge of incorrect prescriptions, risking the safety of many sick and elderly Australians, and placing pressure on pharmacists who must ensure correct eligibility. Just to add to the confusion, the Minister for Health and

Aged Care made statements on national television that have misled people into believing that all medications are now a “buy one, get one free” deal, which has caused considerable anxiety. The policy’s poor execution jeopardises the nation’s health, potentially leading to medication mismanagement and increased hospitalisations. It is also having an adverse impact on community pharmacies, particularly in regional areas. It is making a fundamental change to pharmacy business models, effectively making some regional pharmacies unviable. While we all want cheaper medications, Labor’s policy was poorly thought out and rushed through. Industry and pharmacists are saying they will have to start stockpiling medication, which is nearly impossible with frequently disrupted and unreliable supply chains, and placing at risk many of the free services pharmacists provide to the community. Regional pharmacies are often small family businesses

and some are at risk of closing because of this warped policy. It has been estimated that more than 600 regional pharmacies are under threat along with the 20,000 jobs they support. The Coalition took this fight to the floor of Parliament House, on behalf of patients, communities, and their local pharmacists, calling on the government to get back to the table with the community pharmacy sector to resolve the legitimate concerns on their approach to 60-day dispensing. All that hard work has finally paid off, with the government recently agreeing to enter into negotiations with the Pharmacy Guild to secure an eighth Community Pharmacy Agreement that delivers cheaper medications without negatively impacting community pharmacies. By bringing forward this eighth Community Pharmacy Agreement, the Albanese Government is admitting that its 60-day dispensing policy has already had a damaging effect on the pharmacy industry. The government must now act quickly to resolve these issues to ensure pharmacies can continue to provide the professional services and friendly advice we all rely on. Llew

Sandy Bolton Independent State Member for Noosa A VERY big month of parliament estimates hearings, community events, media requests, meetings, bill research and many messages/texts/calls regarding my intentions in the next state election, which is not until October 2024. To ‘put to bed’ the concerns, rumours, and questions, be assured I will be seeking again your wonderful and appreciated support to keep Noosa independent as it deserves. Until then, my focus is always on the work that needs to be done for the community I adore in all ways, and there is much to concentrate on! It was an honour to be asked to chair a select committee on youth crime to address one of the most complex issues impacting Queenslanders. The importance of obtaining bipartisan agreements and recommendations is key, and I look forward to working with members from both sides of the chamber and the many advocates and victims, to form a united stance that keeps communities safe, whilst reviewing the many contrib-

utors to criminal behaviours in our children and youth. Thank you to the Premier and Minister for Youth Justice for taking these steps in line with the requests from the Voices of Victims, and for facilitating the first independently chaired committee in Queensland for two decades! During the 2023 Estimate Hearings, I sought greater clarity on Noosa topical issues, such as how adequate police resourcing is determined, what can be done when courts do not utilise the legislative tools (harsher penalties) provided for repeat offenders, all the way through to how our Local Disaster Management Groups are updated on the progress of recommendations from the Inspector General’s Emergency Management report. Other budgetary areas covered included our roads, black spots, rail, community batteries, palliative care and polystyrene! My Legal Affairs and Safety Committee ‘Questions With and Without Notice’ and all 55 of my ‘Questions on Notice’ to other portfolios are available on Noosa 360 (SandyBolton.

com/Noosa360). The Noosa Country Show saw thousands in attendance, and it was wonderful to see so many youngsters having a wonderful time. A massive thank you to all who came out to support Rob and the Noosa Country Show Society volunteers and the many exhibitors. With our Emergency Services the theme for this year’s show, Deputy Mayor Frank and I were able to send our gratitude to them when we did the official opening, as well as a reminder for our youngsters to step up as volunteers for the show and our emergency response teams! With so much time between columns and much to share, including the latest updates on the Cooloola Great Walk Eco Project and more, please stay in the loop via Noosa 360. In addition, follow ‘Sandy Bolton MP’ on Faceboo to receive information as soon as available including the Friday Wrap with news and grant information, and subscribe to our e-newsletter at SandyBolton.com/Newsletters to ensure you receive notifications on Noosa specific polls and surveys! Always, if you have any questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 5319 3100 or email noosa@parliament.qld.gov. au. Sandy

Pomona Bowls Club bowlers now and then.

POMONA Bowls Club is celebrating 75 years with a special event. On Saturday 21 October, the club will celebrate its diamond jubilee with free entertainment, face painting, balloons and delicious food and drink. When a group of locals gathered at the Sunshine Cafe in Memorial Avenue, Pomona in August 1948 to discuss the formation of a lawn bowls club, they knew it was the start of some very hard work. The club was founded, the swampy ground was filled, the foundations were prepared and, eventually, a four-rink green was laid with couch grass. The first games were played in November 1948. Life improved for the bowlers when the first clubhouse was built in 1951. The timber building was officially opened on 18 November 1951, and in 1974 a sec-

ond-hand cold room was purchased and installed. This building served as the clubhouse until 1977 when a new brick clubhouse was built, thanks to the help of many volunteers. The official opening was on 20 November 1977 and, with increased membership, a better cold room was purchased in early 1980. The aim was always to add and improve, and in 1982 the original couch green was replanted with Tifdwarf. In 1989, the green was reconstructed. Between 1975 and 1993, vacant land to the east of the green was purchased for future extensions when required. Over the years the clubhouse has been extended to include a large bar and extra cold rooms. The original kitchen was relocated, and in 1992 the building was extended in both length and width to provide a

gaming and lounge area and better toilet facilities. Gaming machines were introduced in 1993, and today the club has 12 gaming machines on the floor. But 5 August 1995 was a very important day for the club, for it was the day the men’s and ladies’ clubs amalgamated, and it became known as Pomona Bowls Club Inc. In late 2009, a grant was received from the Queensland Government to install a much-needed retractable shade cloth over the green, and in May 2016, with another government grant, floodlights were installed for evening bowls. The club has come a long way in the past 75 years and is recognised for its very high level of competition and success in intra- and inter-club games. New bowlers are always welcome.

Venue needed for popular running event

2023 Cooroy Mountain Park Fun Run.

THE popular running event Cooroy Mountain Park Run is looking for a new venue. Race director Andy Town said the owners of the land the run has been held on for the past two years are no longer in a position to hold the event.

“It is a real blow as the event was starting to gain momentum, with competitor numbers already doubled from the first year into the second year. “I have already begun planning next year’s event and have secured Foot-

Motion Noosa as the major naming sponsor. “FootMotion have extensive expertise with growing events such as the Cooroy Run through their extensive marketing networks and their key stakeholders, and were all set to expand on the success of the event. They regarded it as a ‘niche event’ with strong community values and broad scope to encourage families to participate in a healthy activity without pressure to perform outside their own individual capabilities and experience.” So now Andy is on the hunt for a new venue to host the 2024 event scheduled for the month of June. “I am now asking local landowners to consider whether the event may be suitable to take place on their property and to be a major supporter in this community event.” If anyone feels they may be able to host the event, please email Andy at atown6624@gmail.com.

Tennis club seeks grant for upgrade

COOROY Tennis Club (CTC) is seeking a grant from Sport and Recreation Qld through their Minor Infrastructure Program, to upgrade the club’s amenities. Club president Ian Garvey said due to increased useage, the need for im-

proved amenities has been identified as a club priority. “Recent facility grants from Gambling Community Benefits Fund (clubhouse painting) and Cooroy RSL (court cleaning and new nets soon to be installed) have assisted the club in main-

taining facilities, but attention now turns to club amenities which lack accessibility and appropriate location. “The introduction of a stateof-the-art online booking system, Book a Court, (play. tennis.com.au/cooroytennisclub) has meant a substantial increase in casual court hire. “The book-a-court system allows for casual court hire for both day and evening time slots. The lighting system is automated.” Member for Nicklin, Rob Skelton, recently visited CTC and met with committee members Dorelle Goldsworthy, Ian Garvey, Lyn Barker and Alan Hodgkinson and club coach James Webber to discuss the club’s plans for upgraded amenities.

COOROORA United Football Club is celebrating an ‘epic’ grand final win. The Division 3 Men’s team, sponsored by Raine & Horne Noosa Hinterland, travelled to Maroochydore football fields on 15 September to take on Gympie in the grand final. Cooroora United Football Club president Nathan Harris said Cooroora was the first team to score, with Dane Cardew getting one past the Gympie keeper 20 minutes into the match. “The rest of the first half was a series of attacks and counterattacks by both teams, with neither team able to break

down the opposition. “The second half got underway with Gympie still trailing Cooroora 1–0. However, something was different with the way Gympie came back out. They had switched up their attack, and it appeared to rattle Cooroora. “Within 15 minutes of the second half beginning, Gympie had broken down the Cooroora defences and had two shots on target, both being saved by a scrambling goalkeeper. “The persistence of the Gympie team eventually paid off when they evened up the ledger one all, around 20 minutes into the second half.

This is the way the scores would remain until full time. “With a brief two-minute break to discuss tactics, the teams were sent back out to see if an extra 30 minutes, 15 minutes each way, would provide us with a 2023 champion, but scores remained 1–1 at the end of extra time.” Nathan said with the much-anticipated penalty shootout to provide a winner, growing crowd tensions were high. “Jared Austin took the first penalty and slotted it low and to the keeper’s left, giving much confidence to the Cooroora men.

“As the first penalty taker for Gympie stepped up to prepare for his shot, I, the Cooroora keeper, tried everything I knew to psych him out. “It worked. The ball sailed over the crossbar giving Cooroora a 1–0 lead in the shootout. This 1–0 head start proved to be all that was needed, with the next four Cooroora men – Hudson Mienert, Gilles Riou, Stuart Chapman and Robert Albornoz – all taking perfect penalty shots to give Cooroora a 5–4 penalty shootout victory.” Nathan said throughout the regular season, the team played 18 matches for 14 wins, one draw and three losses. “Cooroora United Football Club would like to thank all of our 2023 club sponsors including Raine & Horne Noosa Hinterland, Cooroy RSL, Cooroy Rag, Gelignite Jack’s, Your Local Lifestyle, Sunny Coast Accountants, Cooroy Service Centre, Chapmans Auto Repairs, Joe’s Waterhole, Sunshine Coast Truck Alignment, Wright Cut Meats, Cooroy Outdoor Power, and SPM Law.”

COOROY Badminton Club (CBC) is congratulating all the players at the interclub competition held at CBC’s stadium on Emerald Street recently. good condition, providing a lovely home for a family. However, the best part is the backdrop over the 6.5acre property – the 180-degree views of the glorious Black Mountain Range are simply breathtaking. Two sheds are equipped with power and water: 60,000 litres servicing the house and garage, and a further 15,000 litres to the second and biggest shed. Six kW of solar panels and solar hot water will offset your power bills. Rural lifestyle conveniently located only a few short minutes’ drive to all amenities.

THIS ultimate equine property ticks so many horsey boxes, with 33 acres of gently undulating land in the sought-after Noosa hinterland and plenty of water, pasture and infrastructure. This beautiful property boasts 22 generous-sized paddocks including one larger at the front and similarly at the rear of the property. All paddocks are secured with high-quality Gallagher Conductible Equiwire. Twenty paddocks have 45l Rapid Plas self-watering fence drinkers with a never-ending supply of clear bore water, pumped up and gravity fed from a header tank, and 19 paddocks have 4 x 4 m steel shelters with deco

granite bases. Paddocks are easily manageable and accessible via strategically placed driveways and access lanes, including a 400 m boundary lane for easy riding around the property. The equestrian facilities are further complemented by a 20 x 40 m fenced arena-sized yard and nearby state forestry to enjoy trail riding for hours on end. A charming high-set Queenslander stands guard at the front of this fertile property. The house has classic Queenslander features such as high ceilings, VJ walls, casement windows throughout, and a large bay window and porch. There are three bedrooms, all with ceiling fans; an air-conditioning

unit servicing the main bedroom; and breezes aplenty throughout this high-set home. The kitchen offers gas cooking and shares its space with the dining/sunroom area which leads out to the deck. Underneath the house has ample storage and has been assessed as legal height for building-in. It currently contains a laundry point and car space. Two 5000-gallon rainwater tanks service the house. In addition, there is a studio at the back of the property with full amenities. The studio and sheds are set in a private location overlooking the horse paddocks and surrounding beautiful forestry.

The local birdlife will pop onto the railing regularly for a chat and maybe a singsong, and there’s plenty of other wildlife in and around the property to quietly observe. Currently tenanted until early January 2024 at $900 per week, this could make a great investment to add to the portfolio and for owner-occupiers, generate an attractive income to assist with mortgage repayments whilst planning and packing for the move. Nature lovers will adore this property and with the Noosa Trail Network at the end of the street, no weekend will go by without an opportunity to immerse in the great outdoors so close to home.
