Noosa & Sunshine Coast Region Koala Rescue Team – Wildcare Australia said the lady that hit the koala called them immediately.

“We were able to locate him and he is now receiving medical treatment at the wonderful Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.

“Koalas are on the move – it's breeding season here until December, so please be alert.”

During breeding season, koalas travel further distances, particularly during dusk and dawn, looking for a mate.

“This puts them at higher risk of being hit by a vehicle.

“Any koala hit by a vehicle must receive immediate veterinary care to give it the best chance of survival.

“If you find a koala that may have been hit, please call our rescue hotline immediately on 5527 2444.

"Use a blanket or towel to prevent the koala from moving away or up a tree if safe to do so, or please stay at the location with the koala in view, if safe to do so, until our rescuers arrive.”
