A Note from the President Pomona & District Community House Dawn Gwynne What a month for Pomona! Two major weather events in as many weeks! I’m sure the rest of the community is with me in saying that our hearts go out to the families and businesses affected by the recent floods and a huge THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to assist with the cleanup. At the Community House we were pleased to be able to open our doors for emergency accommodation and to provide whatever assistance we could by way of information and referral. To the affected families and businesses, please let us know if there are other ways we can help out. Sunshine Coast Council provides updates and important information Via their website.:www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/ This includes road closure, disaster & emergency information.

NORTHERN HINTERLAND OUTREACH @ Pomona & District Community House 1 Memorial Ave, Pomona Tuesday evenings fortnightly 6.pm – 7.30pm

Since our first gathering we have had regular meetings once a month at the Lawson Shed on the first Saturday of each Month. We have elected a steering committee, prepared a submission for a shed site, visited the Bauple Men’s Shed, started a membership drive and had a shed crawl at one of our members place. We have commenced discussions with Council seeking a suitable site for our Pomona shed and unfortunately this has taken a slow path due to the elections. Our meetings are interesting with new and exciting projects always on the agenda. Our next project is to have a display at the Pomona Markets to promote the men’s shed concept and seek membership from the community. We are having some woodwork and blacksmithing displays so if you are at the markets come and see us – everyone is welcome. Doug Bettens - Chairperson

(please arrive early for your appointment)

Learn to play simple upbeat marimba pieces in a group setting. Marimbas are a wooden xylophone type instrument. The notes are painted on the keys for ease of learning. Simple songs are usually learned within 1 or 2 classes. The happy sounds of the marimba lift people's moods instantly. Great for kids as well, since it doesn't take long for a song to be learned and to sound good.
