THIS ISSUE 32 PAGES
Children have returned to school for another year and everyone can be proud of the academic standards of the district’s educational institutions. One school in particular, Kin Kin State School, performed strongly last year and is set to do so again. “This school strikes a wonderful balance between academic achievement, environmental awareness, community spirit and the importance of just being a good person,” is typical of the posts on its Facebook page.

Kin Kin has a strong commitment to being a sustainable ‘Earth Smart School’ that values its strong links to the local community.
It is a beneficiary of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, which supports food education in schools. The vision is for every Australian child to form positive food habits for life. The faces of Kin Kin students (pictured) say it all.
Club Pomona forges ahead
A potential buyer of land for sale by Club Pomona (formerly the Pomona Bowls Club) is scoping possible future uses with Noosa Council before committing to purchase, in a deal that would net the club the money it needs to complete renovations and grow an active membership.
Sale of the flood-affected property in School St is required to secure the club’s long-term financial future, according to the club’s board chair David Barnes. He heads a brand new committee after the unexpected resignation of the former committee, which had set the club on a new course and begun a cost-cutting austerity drive that some members thought unnecessary.
David Barnes and his new team of Robin Macanelly (secretary) and Sharon Foales (treasurer) believe they have the winning formula with a plan to get the club back on its feet financially and broaden its community appeal.
A reduction of annual membership fees to $1 had brought in 150 new members. “We have seen a turnaround, the numbers are still increasing as we look to make this a fun club to come to,” he said.
