What Do You Care About in Your Community?
Turning to One Another
Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to answer our question, “What do you care about in your community?” – whether by flyer, on one of our posters or on the chalkboard outside the Mountain Stop Café. Thank
There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about. Ask “What‟s possible?” not “What‟s wrong?” Keep asking.
you.
“What‟s this all about, why that question and, how‟s this information going to be used?” are some of the questions people are asking us.
Notice what you care about. Assume that many others share your dreams. Be brave enough to start a conversation that matters.
First and foremost, the Pomona & District Community House is here to provide a service to the community. Knowing what‟s important to you will help us plan programs and activities that are relevant. Another of the intentions of this unique „survey‟ was to get people thinking and talking to one another about what they care about. That alone, we feel, can contribute to a community interested in one another, in each other‟s ideas and willing to work together to find creative ways of living positively here in the hinterland. After much deliberation, “What do you care about in your community?” is the question we thought most succinctly captured the essence of what we wanted to create. The Sunshine Coast Regional Council has recently been conducting a survey of what‟s important in the rural hinterland. When all the responses have been collated we intend to forward the information to the council and hopefully add to this survey.
Some Responses:*Arts & Crafts * *Peace & Quiet*
Talk to people you know. Talk to people you don‟t know. Talk to people you never talk to. Be intrigued by the differences you hear. Expect to be surprised. Treasure curiosity more than uncertainty. Invite in everybody who cares to work on what‟s possible. Acknowledge that everyone is an expert about something. Know that creative solutions come from new connections. Remember, you don‟t fear people whose story you know. Real listening always brings people closer together. Trust that meaningful conversations can change your world. Rely on human goodness. Stay together. Margaret Wheatley

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it. Mother Teresa
