Race anticipation builds
The focus will be on Pomona this month when the King of the Mountain Festival will be staged, featuring the famous Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge. To be held on July 26, one hundred race competitors will run at top speed from the centre of Pomona to the top of Mt Cooroora, and back down the mountain even faster. It’s tough, demanding and dangerous.

Only 100 competitors are permitted to run in the Mountain Challenge, but for everyone else the Festival will offer plenty to interest and entertain.

The Heritage Market is expecting about 90 stalls, including a good variety of food so visitors will have a great selection to picnic in the park. As well as the usual fish and chips, hotdogs and hamburgers, you will find French, Thai, German, Italian, and Japanese cuisine.
Vintage steam engines from the Wide Bay and Gympie Vintage Machinery Clubs will be on display, and they are popular with all age groups. Sjors Corporaal completed the Bendigo Bank Challenge in 27 min. and 13 sec. attendance, together with a stand showcasing clothes made from their fleece. They are always a big hit with the youngsters, as will be the Animal Farm petting zoo. Also popular will be the Greyhound Rescue stand with a number of their sweet-natured dogs on show, and Smart Puppies assistance dogs, who will bring some puppies-in-training.
