Showgrounds master plan remains ‘active’ Noosa Shire Council says it remains committed to preparing a master plan for the Pomona Showgrounds, but it won’t start just yet. The need for a master plan for the site, owned by the Noosa Show Society, was identified in the council’s Sport and Active Recreation Plan. The Cooroy Sports Complex, Noosa District Sports Grounds, Girraween Sports Complex and Noosa AFL were among other multi-use and large sporting precincts identified as requiring master plans. A master plan is a dynamic long-term planning document that provides a conceptual layout to guide future growth and development. While Noosa Council has commenced work on the plans for the Cooroy Sports Complex and the Noosa District Sports Grounds, the document covering the Pomona Showgrounds is yet to be scheduled for action. Noosa Council’s Community Development manager, Alison Hamblin, said the council remained committed to a three- to five-year timeframe for conducting the master plan.

“Pomona Showgrounds is on freehold land and will require an effective working partnership with the Noosa Show Society Committee, the sporting and community groups on site and council. Our Community Development Officer (Sports and Recreation) is working alongside and supporting the Noosa Show Society Committee,” she said. Show society secretary, Peter Travis, said the working relationship was a good one and he had been assured that the showgrounds master plan ‘remained in the queue’.
