The Culture of the Atelier for the Development of Expressive Language and Creativity The atelier is not just a place, but an approach to knowledge capable of promoting the development of expressive language and creativity, of blending knowledge and disciplines, and of multiplying perspectives. The atelier is understood as a daily opportunity for each child and for children in a group to encounter a variety of materials, tools, and techniques.

The atelier simultaneously engages their hands, thoughts, and emotions as filters of knowledge, enriching educational experience.

Outcomes and Competencies LEVEL 1 • Understanding the sense and significance of the atelier within educational services.

• Recognizing the value of the atelier and expressive languages in children’s learning processes.

• Understanding the value of the atelier and expressive languages for the development of creativity and divergent thinking.

LEVEL 2 • Familiarity with the multiple connotations that the atelier can assume in relation to ongoing thematic explorations.

• Knowing how to organize materials, tools, and experiential contexts to characterize a graphic-pictorial, natural, scientific, narrative, light, digital, or taste-oriented atelier.

Clay and Its Potential Uses Clay is a natural material deeply intertwined with the history of humanity. In education, clay lends itself to being a rich opportunity for children to experience sensations and perceptions. The course includes both theoretical and practical moments where participants will learn about and experiment with the properties of clay, exploring the various plastic alphabets inherent in this language.

Outcomes and Competencies LEVEL 1 • Understanding and observing children’s approaches and knowledge strategies related to clay in different age groups.

• Familiarity with various types of clay and their specific material qualities.

• Acquiring the ability to provide suitable support, tools, and materials for an initial exploration of clay.

LEVEL 2 • Learning essential techniques for clay modelling and creation of three-dimensional models.

• Acquiring the ability to provide support, tools, and materials that can enhance constructive and expressive processes involving clay.

• Being able to relate clay to other forms of expressive language.

Graphic and Painting Language The genesis of graphic signs is characterized by the pleasure of leaving a visible trace on paper, experimenting with different hand and arm movements, and discovering unexpected qualities of the stroke. This course includes various theoretical and practical moments to delve into the significance of graphic language in children’s growth and to learn about and experiment with different types of graphic tools and techniques.

Outcomes and Competencies LEVEL 1 • Understanding and observing children’s approaches and knowledge strategies related to graphic and painting language in different age groups.

• Familiarity with the characteristics of graphic tools, supports, and some graphic-painting techniques.

• Understanding the various types of marks in relation to different graphic-painting tools.

• Acquiring the ability to provide suitable support, tools, and materials for an initial exploration of various types of graphic signs.

LEVEL 2 • Learning essential techniques for creating study contexts related to approaching written codes, portraiture, and self-portraiture.

• Acquiring the ability to provide appropriate support, techniques, and tools for live observations.

• Being able to relate graphic and painting language to other expressive languages using analog and digital technologies.

Experiences with Light and Digital Technologies Different forms of natural and artificial light present opportunities to explore the surrounding environment, spaces, and materials.

Light can convey different sensations, transform spaces in daily life, and interact with materials, colour, and the body. It activates multiple cognitive approaches and experiments with luminous phenomena in children.

Outcomes and Competencies LEVEL 1 • Understanding and observing children’s approaches and knowledge strategies related to the language of light and its scientific phenomena (reflections, refractions of light, rainbows, shadows, etc.).

• Familiarity with some technologies/tools that generate light.

• Understanding the characteristics of materials in relation to light.

• Acquiring the ability to provide suitable tools and materials to create immersive environments.
