A Note From the Principal

HERE AT COOLOOLA CHRISTIAN COLLEGE we understand how vital it is that every child is given every opportunity to become the person that God is calling them to be. We value each child and want to help them achieve success across a range of experiences, whether that be a sporting endeavour or a cultural pursuit, whether it is seeking outstanding academic success or learning to serve others. Our goal is to help each young person grow in their gifts and talents and for them to be prepared to use these to benefit others in their community.

The College offers a Biblically-based curriculum across a wide range of traditional subject areas. Our rigorous academic program caters for students from Prep to Year 12, with ongoing support for all students. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results across our academic, practical and ministry pathways. CCC has had the highest NAPLAN results in the region. In 2025, three of our graduating students ranked in the top 9% of the state for their ATAR results. Our students also successfully transition into the workforce through school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. The teaching and learning partnership between school and home allows all of our students to thrive and fulfil their God-given potential.

God has a great desire to know each of us personally and it is through this relationship that we can determine our purpose and significance in life. We want each child and their families to understand how important they are to God, and to help them discover the great plan that He has for their lives. We practise walking with God each day; students will learn from the Bible, spend time in prayer and be encouraged by their friends and teachers. Our staff make it a priority to care for each young person in our school family and I am so pleased that parents and children feel so safe, supported and nurtured.

I hope this handbook provides you with a snapshot of this wonderful school and I encourage you to seek answers to any further questions by phoning the College.

Our Vision:

To nurture curious and courageous learners through experiences that develop their minds, captivate their hearts, and equip their hands to explore God’s world and understand His plan for their future.

WE PROVIDE: a safe, collaborative, innovative and distinctly Christian environment that supports the academic, social, physical, emotional and spiritual development of both staff and students.

WE ARE: characterised by an excellent reputation for academic outcomes, a wide variety of cultural and sporting opportunities, a commitment to community service, and students of outstanding character and values.

WE ARE: managed by the Board of Directors of Cooloola Christian College Ltd., a nonprofit company established by the Associated Churches (Baptist Church, Church of Christ, Presbyterian Church and Wesleyan Methodist Church).

Our History

Cooloola Christian College grew out of the desire of a group of Christian parents to see Christian education available for their children. It was established in 1992 with an enrolment of 55 children and two teaching staff, held at the Gympie Christian Family Church site. In 1998 the College relocated to its present site on a beautifully landscaped undulating 10 hectares – located on the Southside of Gympie. The College established a complete P – 12 school with the graduation of the Year 12 class of 2003. Current enrolment is over 580 students.

Ready, Set, PREP!

Our Prep teachers and support staff are caring and sensitive, helping your children transition to school life. The College is known for its friendly, helpful environment, which will assist your child with their transition into their Prep year.

At CCC, we recognise that a child’s first steps into formal education lay the foundation for everything that follows. That’s why we are deeply committed to preparing children not just for Prep, but for a lifelong journey of learning grounded in confidence, curiosity, and care. Ready, Set, Prep is more than a phrase: it reflects our intentional approach to giving every child the very best start.

Our programs are thoughtfully designed to support social and emotional growth, early literacy and numeracy, and the ability to communicate, collaborate, and inquire. Inquiry learning time allows children to explore, question, and make sense of the world around them, fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and independent thinking. Alongside this, we place a strong

emphasis on physical activity and the development of gross motor skills, recognising the vital role movement plays in building confidence, coordination, and readiness for classroom learning.

Early literacy is also a key focus. Through the MiniLit explicit literacy program, children are supported to develop strong foundational reading skills in a structured, evidence-based way, ensuring they are well prepared for the academic demands of Prep and beyond.

Moving into Primary

The Primary Years are an enhancement and extension of the learning that has already happened in a child’s life. The College is passionate about supporting families to educate their children and developing lifelong learners.

THE PRIMARY YEARS program focuses on the Key Learning Areas, giving students a range of foundational subjects with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. Every year level includes specialist lessons in Creative Arts, Health and Physical Education, and DigiLingo.

Within each classroom, programs are delivered to cater for the many interests, needs and abilities of the children through a variety of experiences. Some students require support that is outside the everyday happenings of the classroom. We endeavor to meet these needs through learning support programs such as MiniLit and MacqLit.

Students with additional needs are often supported through an individualised learning plan.

Students with particular gifts and strengths have opportunity to further develop their skills through our Honours Programs, Excellence in the Arts and Sports program, Friday community and service afternoons, and other events and competitions.

Communication with Parents in Primary

We believe that strong learning outcomes are built through genuine partnership with families, underpinned by open, consistent communication. At Cooloola Christian College, we prioritise keeping families informed, connected, and actively engaged in their child’s learning journey.

CCC provides families with two formal reports each year as well as feedback on student progress through Learning Progress Meetings.

Learning Progress Meetings provide an opportunity for a collaborative home/school approach to setting learning goals and understanding individual student’s strengths, learning styles and needs.

Communication is shared across a range of platforms to ensure clarity and accessibility for all families. This includes weekly newsletters, Parent Lounge, the Parent Orbit App, Seesaw, and class homework updates, as well as informal conversations with the class teacher. Teachers are also available via email for direct communication, supporting timely and meaningful connections between home and school.

Junior Secondary

Junior Secondary bridges the gap between Primary and Senior Schooling by supporting, stimulating and challenging students while meeting their needs as young maturing adolescents.

Years 7-8

In Year 7, students are supported through a teambased teaching approach across five core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and Health & Physical Education. While students will occasionally move between classrooms, transitions are intentionally limited to support a smooth and confident adjustment to secondary learning. All students entering Year 7 are provided with a College Supplied Device (CSD), ensuring equitable access to digital learning tools and supporting organisation, engagement, and skill development.

Year 8 builds on the strong foundations established in Year 7, with a growing emphasis on the specialist teacher model that students will experience throughout the remainder of their time at CCC. Across Years 7 and 8, elective subjects are not student-selected; instead, the Secondary Leadership team designs a broad and balanced program to expand students’ learning experiences. This approach allows students to explore a range of subjects before making informed elective choices in Year 9. Further details can be found in the Year 7 & 8 Subject Matrix within the Year 9 & 10 Subject Handbook.

Years 9-10

Year 9-10 students experience a range of subjects and teachers. As students proceed through the Middle Years, they will progress from largely teacher-directed study to increasingly self-directed study, utilising the teacher as one of many resources contributing to their outcomes. In preparation for the Senior Years, selfmotivated and self-directed study is essential for each student’s success, equipping them for both tertiary studies and the workplace.

Students select from a range of elective subjects. During this phase of education, growing maturity is demonstrated in growing self-discipline, and a willingness to participate in the education process with greater independence. In Year 10, students transition to Year 11 subjects in Term 4, week 5, to ensure a smooth transition to Senior study.

Senior Phase

With strong links to local business and industry, and positive partnerships with training providers and universities, all learners at Cooloola Christian College have opportunity to learn through a broad range of subjects, courses and extra-curricular activities.

Years 11 & 12

At Cooloola Christian College we seek to equip all students to grow in personal responsibility and spiritual maturity. Students become more accountable for their behaviour and are required to make commitments, fulfil obligations, and make decisions on future studies or careers.

The College seeks to give every student opportunity to discover their gifts, and pursue studies in 3 distinct pathways – academic, career/traineeships, and ministry. All senior subjects reflect QCAA Senior syllabus. See the Senior Phase Subject Guide for more details.

INDEPENDENT LEARNING CENTRE (ILC)

The ILC provides support for those students who have chosen to undertake a course through Distance Education, University or TAFE. The ILC is a learning space where students pursue independent study. They receive support from supervising staff.

Our Careers program provides support for students undertaking School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

Graduate Statement

Cooloola Christian College provides continuous opportunity for students to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to recognise and develop their God-given talents, and conduct themselves in a God-honouring manner; all so that our Graduates are enabled to be:

• critical and creative thinkers;

• compassionate servants demonstrating good character;

• ethical and moral decision makers; informed and responsible global citizens;

• learners for life; positive contributors in God’s world.

Service Learning

There are many opportunities for students, staff and families to be involved in service activities at CCC. Students can also choose to get involved outside the classroom at a local, wider community or international level.

Kids4Kids

Our Primary student fundraising organisation established in 2009, has raised considerable funds to assist children in need after natural disasters, and to support the work of various charities that work to support children in need, both locally and around the world.

Solomon Islands Sister School

Since 2006, CCC has been working in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, providing resources, teaching and fellowship. Student and staff teams have been involved in many projects including establishing the first Christian radio station in the west, rebuilding our sister school after the 2007 earthquake, and dental hygiene/reading glasses clinics. We are also proud to call Maravari Primary our sister school and enjoy the ongoing mutual benefit that comes from this rich connection.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC)

Each year, CCC actively supports children in need by raising funds and collecting essential items to fill Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes through Samaritan’s Purse. This meaningful initiative brings our community together in a spirit of generosity and service, allowing students and families to show practical care, compassion, and hope for children around the world.

Destiny Rescue: Make-A-Stand

Committed to liberating enslaved children around the world and restoring those who have been abused, Destiny Rescue is a Christian organisation we are proud to support and partner with since 2010. Each year our students seek sponsorship to Make a Stand to help free children and bring hope.

Outback Service

The Cooloola Christian College Outback Service Trip is centred on serving God and others using the gifts He has given us. Students step outside their comfort zones to connect with rural and Indigenous communities, partnering with local churches and organisations to support schools, nursing homes, property visits, and community events in towns such as Charleville, Quilpie, Wyandra and Cunnamulla.

Buddy Program

Our multi-age Buddy Program fosters connection across our College, with secondary students regularly visiting early years classrooms to read together, build relationships, and encourage a love of learning.

Excellence in the Arts

At CCC, we are committed to providing a safe and positive environment in which all students can feel empowered, comfortable and free to express themselves in the Arts. We desire for all students to find joy through our Shine Dance program.

Excellence in Sports

CCC has a fantastic sporting program with both curriculum and extra-curricular based opportunities for students.

AT CCC we understand that many students have gifts and abilities outside of the academic confines of the classroom. Our vision is to encourage a lifelong interest in physical activity using a values-based program where our focus is working together to develop young men and women of character. Our students will understand that success is about participation, discipline, and commitment.

At CCC students are given opportunities to participate in a number of sporting disciplines including, but not limited to Futsal, Volleyball, Athletics, Swimming, Basketball and Netball. The programs are conducted by qualified coaches and staff.

BTC is a fluid concept which shifts according to the interests, passions and needs of the College. Students, staff and families climb, compete, volunteer, hike, perform, paddle and picnic under the banner of BTC. Below are a few examples of BTC activities and programs currently in operation at CCC.

Excursions & Camps

Each year our Year 2, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 11 classes experience exciting camps and excursions that expand their knowledge, deepen their spiritual walks and grow as human beings.

CCC Build

CCC Build is a program for the young men and women in Secondary; focussing on building relationships, building character and building faith, through practical and hands-on activities.

The CCC Build team train together weekly before school, led by dedicated teaching staff. Students also have the opportunity to attend off-site events, such as Spartan, to put their courage, determination and grit to the test.

OPENING HOURS

As well as being open for lessons, the Learning Hub is also open at different times throughout the week.

During break times, students read, study, or play board games in various areas of our Library.

All Primary classes have an allocated book borrowing time once a week. Students borrow up to three items at a time for a two week period. Loans can be renewed/extended for a further two weeks upon request. Students are required to have a library bag to borrow items.

SECONDARY STUDENTS

Most Secondary textbooks are now available through our digital platform called Box of Books. The Library staff can support students as they access this resource. Textbooks unavailable digitally can be borrowed as a yearly loan. For regular library borrowing, loans are for two weeks with one renewal available as necessary.

PHOTOCOPYING & PRINTING

Facilities for printing and copying are provided in the Library. Students receive printing credit each term as part of their enrolment.

Student Support Services

At CCC we want every student to feel safe and cared for. We recognise that schools need to provide for the whole child, including social/emotional needs, physical development, online safety and spiritual needs.

Primary Learning Support

As part of our Specialist Services, Learning Support plays a vital role in assisting students with additional needs, while our High Potential Program provides extension opportunities for students working above curriculum level. Programs include MiniLit, MacqLit, Extension Maths, Social Skills, targeted numeracy intervention, and enrichment opportunities. Students work in small groups with supportive staff to grow socially, emotionally, academically and spiritually, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Secondary Enrichment

The Secondary Enrichment Team plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs. They work alongside teachers to ensure curriculum access and build students’ skills, capacities, and confidence.

Responsible Thinking Process

RTP teaches students to take responsibility for their own behaviour, without in any way trying to control them or forcing them to change the way they behave. It is a process that teaches respect for others by fostering responsible thinking.

Through the RTP, educators encourage the development of a student’s sense of responsibility for their own lives and respect for the lives of everyone around them. The unique classroom ‘discipline’ process is both non-manipulative and non-punitive. The key component of this process is its focus on how students can achieve their goals without preventing others from doing so. In short, it teaches students how to respect others.

Where to find support

College Chaplain

CCC’s Chaplain supports student wellbeing, excellent education and an active learning environment. The program and opportunities provided promote and enhance the education of the ‘whole’ child (intellectual, physical, ethical, spiritual, emotional and social development).

The role of the Chaplain within the educational framework of the school enhances the Pastoral Care program, school connectedness and student wellbeing. The availability of our School Chaplains provides another avenue of support to students and staff.

Secondary Wellbeing Coordinator

In Secondary, the class teacher or Pastoral Care teacher is the first point of contact for students’ wellbeing and learning concerns. Our Secondary Wellbeing Coordinator also supports teachers, students, and parents, when issues begin to impact student learning or wellbeing. The Coordinator can also assist with matters such as behaviour, uniform, homework, or classroom disruptions.

When necessary, the Coordinator will seek to work together with families on understanding the situation or concern, explore support strategies, and planning the next steps.

Visiting Specialists

Cooloola Christian College partners with local specialists to support the holistic development of students, ensuring that their academic, social, emotional and wellbeing needs are thoughtfully and professionally supported.
